kigurai Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Chris, will you give us a heads up in the forum (a new thread in the announcement section?) when the Linux build is available? I am dying to try it out! Quote
Gauddlike Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 That may be literal if the snipers have anything to do with it. Quote
TNoyce Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Chris, Just wanted to let you know I've had much more luck playing this build than V13. Still some issues, but at least I can do more than one ground mission now. Nice job. Keep the updates coming. Quote
Agent Dark Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 The Xenonauts has a better Union. So then this whole alien war thingy is over union rights? This either explains things or confuses me beyond belief. I need to think on this. Quote
Darkwingstalker Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Still no luck with getting V14 from Desura as a standalone - and it breaks on updating via Desura. Patiently waiting. Quote
Vivisector 9999 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Not to pry, Darkwingstalker, but you wouldn't have been a Nexus War fan back in the day, would you? Quote
essi2 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Hopefully v14 will be up for standalone download soon, Desura is refusing to download through my ISPs router. Quote
Donkeyfumbler Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 It does seem to be taking a rather long time. Desura is such a PITA and so awful at updating that I really don't want to go back to it. How come the standalone is still not available? Quote
Max_Caine Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Because Desura updates the standalone as well. Quote
Guest Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 It does seem to be taking a rather long time. Desura is such a PITA and so awful at updating that I really don't want to go back to it. How come the standalone is still not available? 1: Desura don't work on weekends at a guess, and have some serious problems on their end. 2: Like I said in the other thread, I think Chris said there was an animation error that he wanted to fix before uploading the stand alone. Yeah, it's a serious pain waiting. Quote
Gorlom Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) It does seem to be taking a rather long time. Desura is such a PITA and so awful at updating that I really don't want to go back to it. How come the standalone is still not available? Because Desura updates the standalone as well. Because we don't know if Chris has even uploaded the standalone. Last word (first post in this very thread) was that he still had something to do (some small animation fix that he was expecting to be done soon) and as far as I know that fix hasn't been applied yet? Not even to the client version (consider that the client version doesn't need a full upload of every file unlike the zip file). Edited September 1, 2012 by Gorlom Quote
FranTorres Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Oh my god !! I have been out of the scene since build 9 and now I can even play terror missions !! dudes this is awesome, this is the fucking true UFO !! f**k firaxis this is the one !! Quote

Giovanni Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 desura reminds me of the ninties - can be happy if i have 10 kb/s and download runs smooth for mroe than a minute. LOL, that's sooo true! Quote
RavenX Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Sweet. Between this and X-Com now only a month (and a few days) away it'll be a good time for hunting down alien scum. Quote
Chris Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Been moving house. I'll try to release the hotfix today and upload that to the standalone too. Quote
gnarly Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Been moving house. I'll try to release the hotfix today and upload that to the standalone too. Much awesome-ness! Quote
kigurai Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Been moving house. I'll try to release the hotfix today and upload that to the standalone too. Any news on the Linux port? Quote
ko2fan Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Any news on the Linux port? Waiting on standalone version to repackage for wine. Quote
kigurai Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Waiting on standalone version to repackage for wine. Are you the official packager? And in that case, is the "port" run through wine? Quote
Transcendence Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Not going to lie, I'm dying to get my hands on the v14 to give it a test spin... Can't wait until the standalone is released so I can. Oh Desura... eheh. Quote
ko2fan Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Are you the official packager? And in that case, is the "port" run through wine? Yes, it uses wine. The engine does not support Linux, and there wasn't enough time to create a native port. Quote
Tam Elbrun Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I'm surprised you're rendering the soldiers as one complete sprite instead of chunks the game composites together as needed. (the Baldurs Gate games used to do that, build a sprite from pieces based on inventory, I mean. I think that method was called 'paper doll' sprites?) Wouldn't having, "x" poses of soldier A, B, or C, "x" poses of gun A, B, C, & D, and "x" poses of item A, B, C, & D, be more efficient than rendering out every possible combination of those items and weapons? Come to think of it, i'm pretty sure the original Xcom did that too, because I remember trying to edit XC:TFFD to include XC:UD gear. Quote
