  1. Ah joy... casual sexism strikes again... Thanks for perpetuating the 'sexist gamer' stereotype shabowie... On topic however - There is of course another option available. This is of course an independent entity apart from the various armed forces of the world. And as such, perhaps it has a different seniority structure. After all, in game play it seems that rather than the members of the squad having any command over each other, they merely motivate and guide each other better based upon how long they have served and the combat experience they have gathered. You are the one directing them - the remote director watching their video feeds and providing orders from afar within your base - while it seems the boost they give one another in regards to bravery is more due to the grizzled veterans of multiple missions motivating and reassuring the newbies as they confront the horror of the xenos, guiding them with their wellspring of experience. Thus, the classifications have more to do with acknowledging the veterancy of your operatives than ranking them. In such a case wouldn't the members of this task force be receiving titles unique to the organization? After all, the previous rankings of the operatives have already been discarded. In such a case, wouldn't it be accurate to give the team titles completely different from real-world armies that they no longer are a part of? As to what the new titles would be, well, I'm sure individuals within this thread could come up with a plethora of ideas. In any case, that's my two cents. (I must confess, I always pictured the Xenonauts organization as rather more of a private company in the whole business for the profit - bidding out its services to the various governments for a price rather than being some pitbull for the shambling, corrupt, and degrading world state wannabe that the U.N. is. Thus, it would be less likely to succumb to the dead-headed, unnecessarily hierarchical, ham-handed, tradition obsessed, and creativity hating tendencies that the state armies of the world of exhibit.)
  2. I'm not going to lie, I plan to getting around to delving into my Xenonauts folder and looking for the file that contains the ranks. I'll rename the entire rank structure so that no officers are included in my games. All of my operators work for a living, thank you very much.
  3. Funny... I never experienced a stat grinding/exploit problem... Oh yeah... because I didn't look for exploits or stat-grind. Funny how that works...
  4. Two three man fighter squadrons engaged my three man fighter squadron simultaneously. The combat took place, however with overlapping soundtrack, and with a visible and invisible combat taking place. After I won the combats, the game crashed to desktop when it normally would have transferred to the world map. This has happened a couple times now, but it quite rare for obvious reasons.
  5. Ahhh, excellent, more faces for my recruits! I do like having a wide variety of people. I'm really excited about this coming update. The variet in terrain will be wonderful as well. Hopefully most of the recruitment and save related bugs will be purged. By the way, is it possible to remove soldier photos from one's file cache? Just in case some of the ones who paid for the portraits are a little chunky, as I seem to find so often with my fellow gamers. Obviously one doesn't want to have, ahhh... any weight-challenged individuals (is that the politically correct term for fat people now a days?)... in one's special forces.
  6. I have been reading what has been posted, and I must confess, my thoughts coincide mostly with XenoMask. I would prefer: Non-enterable fighters and light scouts where one just clears the map. Scouts and Corvets to be enterable on map, as they are composed of only one or two rooms and don't seem to be causing problems thus far. And the larger crafts to be two parters as I see this to be a marvelous idea to be able to ensure a varied internal, an awe-inspiring external, and a good deal of flexibility. However, if possible, I would prefer to be able to enter the airlock/first room behind the crash opening, with a possibility of a couple aliens being in there, as I find the breaching was pretty important to me in the game. Otherwise, I love the idea of two-parters for the big ships. I hope a consensus can be reached.
  7. Huh... I'm a premium purchaser... and I can't seem to get the Desura download going, and the standalone keeps saying I have to buy it... yet I already have.... I am confused... Edit - Oop, never ye mind, I fixed it... now to find a Desura voodoo doll...
  8. Ahh... Fond memories of Cpt. Thudd... He was useless with a gun... and due to being a psionic midget, he was just as likely to be unloading it into my own men... but he was strong like bull, dumb like pig, tough like bear, and he. would. never. die. I lost count of how many time he was horribly wounded storming alien ships with only a flare and a shock prod to call his own... Yet that man, that big blond, exceptionally vacant minded man refused to lie down... or at least refused to lie down any longer than those medics back at base made him. It got to the point I was unable to afford to bring him with my squads on missions anymore because I needed the space and couldn't afford to have him going all killy on my own men cause a bugger mind-zapped him. But having grown far too attached to him due to his refusal to die and stubborn loyalty (And he beat down a goddamn Chryssalid with a shock prod for chissakes!) I couldn't bring myself to put him down or fire him, so I 'retired' him to my main base, and kept him there telling myself that he held the position of Self Defense Trainer... beating the new recruits to within an inch of their lives so that they could take what ever those green bastards threw at them on the field... all with a big stupid grin on his face. I miss Cpt. Thudd...
  9. Eheh... and sometimes you spend the latter half of waiting for those Migs/Extra Hangars to build chasing impudently fast scouts around the map, cursing under your breath.
  10. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person to record the dead and their accomplishments in my little text document of honor (Or lack thereof...).
  11. Hmm, sounds like food for mod. I really like the idea of being able to build a Security Barracks and having a bunch of NPC Security Guards around your base when the aliens hit, giving you that little extra punch... or... more realistically... set of speed bumps... to take some of the brunt as your xenonauts mobilize. The rest I am not such a huge fan of, each to their own mais non?
  12. I've read through this thread, and I really must say, I would just like to have two pilots sitting in their chairs. If anything, one can be modeled to be perpetually leaning over the controls with a headset on, and the other reading some random magazine. The fact that there is a visible cockpit, and that it is empty, does bug me, and I find it hardly likely that Infantry would also be trained as pilots, it's just not feasible. So two stationary models would really make things nicer, hell model them to be wearing the same uniform as the unarmored Xenonaught troops. No need to make this crazy and overly complicated.
  13. Ahah, can't have Simo Häyhä in the game, some of us want to play out the combat portion rather than arrive at the landing site to find yet another combat zone strewn with dead aliens all with neat little holes drilled in their skulls from high-velocity lead and a little sign saying 'Stay the hell out of Suomi, you damn flying Russians!'
  14. Not going to lie, I'm dying to get my hands on the v14 to give it a test spin... Can't wait until the standalone is released so I can. Oh Desura... eheh.
  15. Welcome! I look forward to screaming at my screen as your A.I. preforms a violent, unnatural selection upon my hapless kill team with burning plasma death.
  16. Thank you so much for getting back so soon! I'm pumped to know I'll be able to give it to him in a short while! The amount of your guys interaction with us all is really awesome.
  17. First off, hats off to the team, this game is fantastic, even in preliminary form. Just a question, I pre-ordered the $50 package that comes with a second pre-order game to gift to a friend. How do I get the key to him and where am I supposed to receive it? I mean, I only ask because I kinda was planning to give it to him for his b-day cause, well, awesome computer game = awesome present... In any case, any answers would be fantastic. I checked to see if anyone else had asked about it but have not seen anything yet. Thanks!
