XenoNUT
How about 'Short Stick?' Referring to the stun baton and also the fact that said Xenonaut apparently drew the short stick back at Xenonauts HQ or in the Chinook on the way to the drop zone. Shoes
How about 'Short Stick?' Referring to the stun baton and also the fact that said Xenonaut apparently drew the short stick back at Xenonauts HQ or in the Chinook on the way to the drop zone. I like Shock Jock, but I really like the vaguely derrogatory sense of Short Stick. Honestly, no one chooses the stun baton as a tactic, they are given it because they are either bad or because they are outranked. Which, as players, is how we decide who has the baton : rookies, or rookies with poor stats. Perhaps if a Short Stick performs admirably, he could be promoted to a Shock Jock... thothkins
I thought they did it because they were mentally unbalanced. The ones with the highest health would go or the ones with the self proclaimed aura of invincibility.
Betuor
Meatsheild, definity meatshield. That, or if advaliable, rookie.

HWP
Meatsheild, definity meatshield. That, or if advaliable, rookie. Both these terms have well established definitions already; different definitions, too. Meat shields wear heavy armor, carry healing supplies and take enemy fire, rookies are recruits. Yes, so? Also that's not X-Com's only def. for Meatshield.
erutan
I'd go for 'short stick' myself.
Name
I'd go for 'short stick' myself. How's about short straw?
thothkins
there's also something rather brutal about Jean-Lucs' "Bait"
Gorlom
How's about short straw? Isn't that the person drew the short straw implied by the name "short stick" already while still also referencing to the melee weapon? At least that is what XenoNUT was going for when he made the suggestion. (Personally I want to reference British police officers not carrying guns ) Edited January 20, 2013 by Gorlom
Dix
I was going to suggest "bricks" or "brickers", on account of what they'll do when told to run up to an 8 foot tall alien death machine waving a cattle prod. Shock-jocks works nicely, though. Also more socially acceptable

Tango
How's about short straw? LOL, I like that one! I used to call them Batty Boy's, but from now on they will be known as "Short Straw" lmao!
TrashMan
I vote for shock-jock. Simple, catchy and describes the job of running to an alein and zapping it.
Anon_Spartan
In one of the earlier versions I remember we got police batons. Nothing was funnier than 4 recruits running up to a Sebillan and beating the crap out of it. I called `em LAPD but I don't think that name would work so well for the official release
Commissar Pancakes
Kinda amused how Chris has already chosen, yet we're all still posting names. I was about to offer "glow-stick"

thothkins
I'm not sure the publicity over Xenonauts giving the aliens E is exactly what GH are looking for
Commissar Pancakes
No, but it would bring about an interesting way to stun them, wouldn't you say?

Assoonasitis
The DLC pack should automatically add a new role to the roster, "LN" (Laser Ninja), which automatically equips a glowstick in each hand and gives your Xenonauts "Laser Ninja Armor" which is free and infinite and consists of only cut-off jeans shorts for guys and a bikini with sarong for the girls. Naturally male and female armour would have soothers, spiked hair and translucent visors worn upside-down.
