MisterLock
Hi guys!New here.Just picked the game up yesterday and enjoying every little bit of it. But there is a problem that I've ran into...The corvette. As I've seen some of you guys talking about some alienium missle that can take down Ufo's the size of the corvette. Problem is I didn't get that far.I only have 3 F-17 and 1 Mig. I tried engaging with the Mig in the center and the 2 F-17 on the side but I get pulberized. And to make it more harder...the corvette has a escort of 2 fighters. So my F-17 are forced to deal with them while the bombs from the Mig aren't sufficient to even make the corvette fall back. Any tips please? mace6442
Can't kill them all TBH...... I some times use 3 x F-17 to take down the escorts then work out what aircraft the corvel is following so I can draw it away - then the other two empty their guns into it from behind. At some point you will have to leave it but then come back with the MiG (3 is ideal) ; ideally with 4 torps. If you get into the red area you are dead. Mult runs should work
MisterLock
So should I just ignore it?
duch
I have a simple solution for that: my F-17s are dealing with escorts while MIG hits Corvette and immediatelly flees to base. After that I sent MIG once again and now it destroys corvette simple and nice
Max_Caine
As duch says, once the MiG fires its missiles you should immediate set it to flee. A corvette requires 7-8 avalanche missiles to crash. To prevent the fightercraft from firing their missiles at the MiG, you should set the MiG's speed to slowest. The fightercraft's AI tends to fire missiles at the nearest target, not the furthest. Sathra
After researching Alenium (after capturing a minor damage Scout, not a Light Scout), you get a topic called Alenium Explosives. This give you Alenium rockets, grenades, missiles and torpedoes. 4 Alenium Torps will take out a Corvette. You can change weapons by clicking on the missiles in the aircraft screen (only MiGs can carry Torps). Or you can intercept it twice. MisterLock
Thanks for the quick answear guys!Managed to crashland it before it initiated a terror site! What I did is:I used my F-17 to quicklu deal with the 2 fighters then used my third plane to be bait for the corvette. While the corvette was chasing my plane...the two other behind him were set to small speed and were just bombarding him with the gatling guns this made him take around 48% damage. After my fighters ran out of fuel and ammo I retreated them and leave space for the Mig.He intercepted the Corvette again and 4 avalanche torps did the trick. Ol' Stinky
I...I never knew you could adjust the planes' speed. Boy, do I feel dumb. I figured that slide at the side was there just to make sure you can tell you're afterburning or not. No wonder I was having a hard time with air superiority/finances! The way I'd been doing it wasn't to take out the fighters, but pump everything into the corv and return later. If you down the corv, the fighters vanish and you get the crash site. That might be easier for you than taking out the fighters.
MisterLock
They will just get in the way when I'm trying to circle the main fighter...
GizmoGomez
My corvette take down strategy is to have my two Condors and my MiG fly up. My condors fire their missiles at the two escorts, 2 missiles each, and my MiG fires it's missiles (or torps if I planned ahead ) at the 'vette. My Condors then circle around and begin pummeling it's rear with auto cannon (whichever tier I have) fire, downing it eventually. Using 4 alenium missiles, one ballistics autocannon and a laser autocannon for the other Condor, it took a little while to take it down, especially once it focused fire on one of the condors and not the MiG, but it worked eventually. Plus, I didn't lose any planes!
MisterLock
Yeah..If you read my problem in the other post...I just don't have the luck to get Some freaking alenium!...I even started a new game... Had 7 smallsouts...5 scouts...Not one of those scouts were lightdamage so I can get alenium and a power source...And you know the worst part is?I'm already in the second month and corvettes are starting to appear and no sing of scouts anymore...So I'm gonna have to start over again. Sathra
You can get Power Sources from Corvettes too. Anything above Corvette, and you'll have to start a new game.
MisterLock
And it has to be light damage no?Might have to start a new game non-ironman
Sathra
Yeah, Light damage. Otherwise the engines explode and spray fire and smoke all over the interior of the ship.
Buzzles
It is possible to take out a corvette (well it used to be a few builds ago), using 2x F17's and a Mig with 4x Avalanches. It's just hard and requires a lot of manual flying and use of bait planes. Normally the Covette goes after the MIG, in which case you fire off all of the MIG's missiles just don't send it home, you instead fly it around and use it as a bait plane. F17's then drop behind, use their missiles and knobble it with cannon fire. This only just about works if it's a lone corvette. If it has escorts forget it unless you've got laser cannons and alenium missiles/torpedoes on your planes. Tbh, I think the two sortie method of killing the escorts, then returning to base to rearm is probably much safer and easier. crusherven
Tbh, I think the two sortie method of killing the escorts, then returning to base to rearm is probably much safer and easier. That's what I do before alenium warheads. If there's an escort, I sent my Condors to take them out in one wave, with the Foxtrot(s) in a separate flight. Unload the avalanches, bug out, rearm, and come back. Foxtrots are pretty fast when you don't slow them down with Condors, fortunately. MisterLock
I'm kinda not playing the game right now...The visual bugs are kinda killing it for me
Virosa
Its prolly cheesy but right now, there seem to be a random factor to whether its light or severe damage. Sometime i have to load the game back to the autosave because of an other bug and then its no longer severe, its light damage or such.
