a333
Oh man, three exclamation and four quotation marks? Was it really necessary? I mean, that's just plain overkill. Shuuk, extraterestial ships probably would be even more bizarre than these (xenonauts ones based on the earth organic depsea designs, i believe). It's good to step off from the stereotypes, especially when you do it with style. And, like Max_Caine said, there are disc-like ships for you to worship their..roundness. thothkins
Hello GoodGuyEddy. We are representatives of the Intergalactic Grammar Police. Please enter our disc shaped craft where our language centre is located... Going by the google pics, the OP was just referring to the standard craft form UFOlogy for the last several decades. or was he? OR! WAS!! HE!!!??? Hello thothkins. We are representatives of the Intergalactic Grammar Police. Please enter...
Commissar Pancakes
*gunshots* Xenos scum... Anyways, back to the main topic. The main reason why there aren't any traditional disk shaped extraterrestrial spacecraft is because the developers kinda wanted to get away from that particular trope. Oh, thothkins! Take this C4 and go blow up that frigate! NOW.
thothkins
certainly Commissar ...5 mins later... Hey, there's no timer on thi...>BOOM!<
GizmoGomez
What does C4 do anyway? (Besides explode. Like, what's it useful for? It can't breach UFOs, so terrestrial walls, I guess? Haven't used it yet.) And why, thothkins, did you leave the timer at home?
Max_Caine
When aliens start holing up in buildings more often, I'm sure C4 will be useful for effecient extermination. After all, why bother sweeping each floor when you can bring the whole lot down?
Commissar Pancakes
In X-COM 93, I just ignored regular grenades completely and threw around the HE packs willy-nilly like they were dodge balls.
a333
Aaaand there goes the thread. You could at least discuss how round was UFO's back in those days, and how that roundness was going together well with the HE explosions surrounding it.
GizmoGomez
I never actually used the HE packs in the OG. I mainly just used proximity grenades to mine doorways and the like.
Commissar Pancakes
I'd simply throw them beneath Chryssalids. It'd solve that particular problem quickly. Blowing the first story of those pesky urban stores to hell was just an added bonus.
thothkins
certainly having rounder C4 charges would help when throwing. However, would you lose out on power? There's also the roll factor. you'd not want the C4 charge to necessarily roll away to completely blow up something off target. I miss some of the original craft form EU1994. Well, I miss all of them through sheer familiarity. But, for the purposes of this topic, the tripod shaped first UFO that landed in wheat fields would be about the closest to a UFOlogy shaped craft. The abduction and battleships possibly too. But as per the stunning revelations here Xenonaut UFOs are in fact spookily close to UFOlogy ships. crusherven
Am I the only one that thinks the US gov't is probably really happy to let people build theories about an extraterrestrial coverup, so long as they aren't talking about what the gov't was/is *actually* doing?
Commissar Pancakes
That's actually what they're probably doing...
Gauddlike
I doubt that is limited to the US either. Anything that distracts the populace, especially the verbal part of it, would be a good thing if it prevented too much focus on what really goes on in government. thothkins
An example of this sort of thing concerns Mr Paul Bennewitz
crusherven
Interesting. I'm pretty sure I've seen the video that article refers to.
PRiME
Some larger variations in ships would be nice since there are many different races involved in the invasion. But my guess is it comes down to the time required to do such a thing, being not feasible business wise as it would ad development time. I will say this however, the current UFO's are a bit too pretty for something that has been shot down.
Commissar Pancakes
They probably already have larger ships. They've just not been activated yet.
GizmoGomez
They also haven't finished making the damaged versions of the ships yet. They will have varying degrees of damage and such.
Max_Caine
zzz10010 did some nice mock-ups of what the larger ships would look like. But there are larger ships, much larger ships and HOLY GEEZ THAT'S BIG.
PRiME
Yes super sized ships where your men land and are like 'shit we gonna need backup'
