Chris
If you just got the updated .exe, the game would just crash as you wouldn't have the accompanying updated assets.
superpirson
oh well, it would have been nice. thanks! I'me curious, how often do the assets change? a lot of the other games I've seen keep the same assets for many builds.
Gauddlike
It depends on what has been added. Much of the information for the game is contained in external files. If the weapon/armour files have been updated and you only updated the exe then you wouldn't have the new files. Generally a lot of the files aren't altered but quite often they undergo a major change, like when all of the weapon information was changed to tweak the accuracy values. A lot of the map files change between builds as well when new tilesets, map layouts, and submaps are added. Once the game is feature complete and bug squashing is the main source of updates then the majority of the files will remain unaltered. Donkeyfumbler
We're hopfully releasing another build today and I'll make sure that gets uploaded to the standalone download properly. Thanks Chris. I have so many clients on my machine, I'd rather avoid another if I can, regardless of how good or bad the Desura one is.
jimbobfury
Any word on the next release at all? I hope whatever stopped you releasing one yesterday as you'd hoped isn't causing you too much of a headache!
Amiga4ever
Yep, we all waiting for any news about next update The best is that every next fix makes game more enjoyable
Chris
Yeah we're trying to fix the Xenopedia images not displaying bug. We'll release something today, whether or not it's finished.
jimbobfury
Cool. So, that was a bug? I thought they'd just been taken out while you played around with the text size. Glad it's nothing major then. Looking forward to 9.5!

BobbyDylan
I wonder if civilian AI will be disabled.... Is that the cause of the "Hidden Movement" lockup?
Amiga4ever
Probably yes
jimbobfury
Chris seemed to have the AI fix in hand ready for the next release, so hopefully the issue will be sorted without having to disable the civvies. It'll be great when the AI gets developed further, that's when the tactical combat will really come to life. Hopefully now that the game's getting closer to a public release the AI will start to see some love...
Zeromanicus
Is Xenonauts demo suppose to end in August? I admit i started ignoring UFOs after i completed the terror mission, but on August 21 i got Game Over. Sadly, before my laser guns finished production : (
Chris
Yes, it has a built-in timeout. If people are finding it comes too early then we can move it back, but we've not really done much detailed testing on it. Most people haven't been able to get past the hidden movement screen for long enough to do it.

I have played passed August already and dislike the Mandatory 'Game Over'.
Gorlom
It's based on the ticker isn't it? Shoot down more UFOs to get a longer game.
Chris
It is based on the ticker, but the ticker goes up an unavoidable amount every in-game hour. Is it possible to have Wolf Armour and Laser weapons built and completed before the ticker expires?
Buzzles
It is based on the ticker, but the ticker goes up an unavoidable amount every in-game hour. Is it possible to have Wolf Armour and Laser weapons built and completed before the ticker expires? Without cheating...barely. Even then I only got the chance to use them once. I'd say in light of non experienced players or just runs of bad luck (I was exceptionally lucky and only lost the odd soldier or hunter), that another month might give people the chance to actually build a few and use them in more normal missions. flashman
I had researched Plasma weapons, but what is this power core drop? I shot down 7 scouts and raided them all, but never got a powercore to research. I also never saw a single Corvette before game over. Light Scouts are like cuttlefish and very small, whereas Scouts (the ones with Powercores) are bigger and crescent shaped.
Chris
OK, I'll make the game a bit longer. V9.5 hasn't been authorised yet anyway so I'll stick that in there and reupload it shortly, we've fixed the Xenopedia image display bug now too. IceVamp
Sweet. That explains why it took so damn long until I saw Scouts, I was being too effective. Also, no power core drops from scouts on my end either. Desura not updated yet.
