The Truth is in Here - 4 - If X-Com were more Fortean
Jean-Luc replied to thothkins's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
The Truth always comes to the surface, sometimes in a bag. There should be Goat Terror Missions where you have to protect domesticated hooved animals from Chupacabras. In return the South American funding bloc would reward you with what they call muchas gracias as well as the finest chevon.- 5 replies

He actually has a going on. He's probably the only serious LP-er who'd take on a game like that. His playstyle's a little derpy but what the hell. Aftermath's kinda underrated I feel. While it has a lot of flaws compared to X-Com it also has a lot of good ideas/features of its own.

It's already happening irl (I know you know about Sea Org, just pointing out how disturbingly close they already are to our fantasy). Pfff, "standard tech". Time to torpedo some aliens and research some of that golden stuff.

Hub-Com Aliens are invading. Your mission? Recruit your cult followers and send them into battle, rank up their thetan level, infiltrate the IRS and divert funds to your organizaion, purchase new ships, ceremonial sabres and celebrities. Earth is a battlefield and you are its only hope. "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own planetary defence force" -L Ron Hubbard, Hub-Com Ccmmander.

Jsleezy's Real Fighter Portrait Pack - Preview
Jean-Luc replied to Jsleezy's topic in Modding Discussion
Quite impressive and the two visual styles don't clash as much as one would expect them to. -
I'm interested but still trying to figure out what's the gameplay like. I get the feeling it's very limited in terms what you can do and tools you can use. I enjoyed Incubation back in the day but that game had a pretty good amount of different weapons and progression that kept things sort of fresh. I feel that something like Steam Marines has a lot more options and "stuff" than Hulk but I'm not sure.

I'm sure someone's already mention it but it's a game Ishantil. The primary concern is game balance and design, realistic portrayal of aircraft is somewhere near the bottom of the priority list.

Commissar taught the Inquisition everything it knows.

Putting together and running a kickstarter ain't that simple. Besides, the devs are Czech.

JA2 is a very different game and its grenade launcher doesn't even have a high arc of fire (behaves more like a direct fire weapon), it's almost the same as the Xenonauts' missile launcher in fact so there's little point to it except for flavour. To be truly different it'd need to me more like JA2's mortar which, as mentioned many times before, is contrary to intended game design.

Sale material at best.

I thought it was the "crying in a pool of your own feces" simulator.

Yes, jeanetic purity is of utmost importance.

We may parley and slay our enemies together but our blood can never mix.

I think it's because the implications of destructible aircraft are much more difficult to understand for an unexperienced player than those of ironman. After all the game is balanced around recoverable aircraft but a new player is probably going to assume it's merely a "noob setting" and then when he loses a couple of planes and it costs him the game they'll be like "wtf just happened?". As previously mentioned ironman doesn't change the balance of the game the way interceptor perma-death does.

Vehicles... skills and weapons
Jean-Luc replied to SalsaDoom's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Vehicles would be more useful if they were a bit more versatile imo: -
Damn you, Xenonauts! Damn you to hell!!

That's not x-com baby! -
Actually, getting an automatic salvage reward for shooting down fighters might not be a bad idea regardless of interceptor mechanics. Maybe like 10k per fighter (30k for a whole wing) and 15-20k per heavy fighter, etc. Whatever is "balanced". Give a bit more incentive to go after them rather than cower in the hangar.

Bought yesterday - Uninstalled today
Jean-Luc replied to DaWu's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
It's not because of game flow. They simply don't work well, a purely technical issue.
