  1. Game crashed on me, but you're so right, it finally is a game now! Chris, I'm really psyched, it really feels like X-COM, and it is exciting to see the game come along this nicely. I do especially like the atmosphere, the spitting of fire, the burned-out Hunter hulk, the sound of the shots, and it all gets so much better during hidden movement: Shots, alien gargles, militia returning fire, civilian casualties, the smashing of windows and random explosions. Wow, just wow.
  2. Oh my, I have to play this build! I have never lost anyone or anything, some wounds, one time on my first playthrough someone panicked, but that's about it...
  3. It worked very well for Order of the Stick and Banner Saga, for example. I think the funding thermometer that was discussed a month or two ago should definitely be in.
  4. Unfortunately the "checking old files" screen doesn't have a timer. I swear it took at least 30 minutes to verify before beginning to download anything.
  5. I don't know. If all that people want is a graphically revamped UFO:EU with some new features and a better interface, why not give it to them? Especially seeing as the holders of the original license don't bother with that.
  6. That sounds really good. Having a way of preventing reaction fire is something that was definitely missing from the original X-COM. Makes it feel like you're commanding Napoleonic line infantry
  7. Looks real good! Why does he have that turban, though? With it, he looks a bit like those "Immortals" from the 300 movie.
  8. I guess you can use Desura's "verify" function, if something goes wrong. I believe it will replace modded files.
  9. Also, I can't find the quote, but either Chris or some other venerable forum member said something along the lines of "Many people think that Ironman is a bug." I think that sums up the current situation quite nicely, it doesn't really work that great, so best to ignore it
  10. The latter is already planned in form of "role badges" that you can freely assign. It's only hinted at in the manual, though, not in the game itself.
  11. Stalwartly, TNR doesn't let anybody else leave the Skyranger first in order to get himself thoroughly killed. Just as I envisioned.
  12. I had that problem, too. Just extract the archive and put the soldiernames and strings files into the Xenonauts folder, to overwrite the old soldiernames and strings files.
  13. I'm not so sure if it's that easy. I have not noticed that bug up until now, in neither version. Maybe I play to little.
  14. I couldn't move my soldiers up the stairs in the barns, even though I was using the arrows. I don't know about industrial, but farmyard seems to be quite buggy at the moment.
  15. Also, I can confirm this for fullscreen mode. Happened in my first mission, on farm tileset, too.
  16. I have noticed that some people hold the sentiment that every tier should always include the game (for various reasons, such as people plainly misunderstanding that 5$ or other low amounts don't already pay for the game, but yeah, it might happen, and you know the internet). So, you might want to take that into account. Maybe go with what was suggested above, lower price point for the finished game, current prices for alpha and/or beta access. I don't know, though, how that compares to your business plan. Also, try not to give out too many "get into the game" rewards. I'm still wondering how Wasteland 2 will pull off the stunt of approximately a thousand people putting their own names, places, items and even statues into the game. Especially when, as in the case of Xenonauts, modding and name-changing are fairly easy (which lessens the value). Also, it might get annoying for the rest of the players to always have this "Morten Bitchensteiner III" show up in your starting roster. It somewhat kills immersion, I fear. I understand that people want to immortalize themselves, but I believe it should be done as unobtrusively as possible. The credits are a good place for that, and they also allow for lower tier prices (which in turn pulls in more people who can't afford 2.500 quid for their name-in-the-game). Last thing: Be careful with the material rewards. They are a nice incentive, but you should definitely make a plan and get some manufacturing estimates before priming the Kickstarter grenade. Several devs have said they were sort of overwhelmed with the cost and effort stuff like t-shirts, cloth maps and the like drag behind them. I wouldn't want that to happen to you as well. Regarding Xenospotter's ideas: I would avoid this, especially if it's Kickstarter only (it's different when you say "every pre-orderer gets that stuff", but then the question is whether that is technically possible). It pisses people off to not have the "fullest" game. Yes, I know, they get a full game, but see what happened when Shadowrun announced backer-only missions, or Wasteland 2 promised extra portraits for those that pay more. Every pre-orderer and pledger helps to make the game happen, no matter how much they are able to give, so they shouldn't be given different games. Different other stuff that's not directly in-game would be okay, though. That, on the other hand, is a good idea. Extra portraits are a great idea (better than personalized names, I believe, as they are of use to everyone), and adding small aesthetic touches also serves the idea of immortalization while not annoying other players. Banner Saga did that with their crest idea, and with great success.
  17. At first, I thought "well, maybe they're modernizing the game for good", but it really seems it's getting butchered, just as all the good old stuff these days.
  18. Ah, sorry. I usually take it as a sort of what is this I don't even, but I don't believe there really is a "right" translation.
  19. I meant the direction the thread is taking, I thought your "irritated eyes" smiley was referring to all the sexy licking stuff that's coming up. Also, it was a joke
  20. Yes, Desura updates are kind of fishy, at least for Xenonauts. For me, they do show up as they should, but they take forever to verify/check/whatever it does. For me, it often sort of locks at about 50%. It does eventually continue, though, but it's always strange. One time, I hid the update progress window (or maybe I closed it) which made the whole process go awry. I had to fully uninstall and reinstall Xenonauts to get the newer version, because another "update arrows" just wouldn't show up.
  21. Yes, of course, Blondie, Dire Straits and Supertramp stand out, and I do like Rod Stewart. Didn't mean to diss those! However there's a lot of disco-electro and pop stuff in there. My Sharona would be great for promo, though. And, to not only be bitching around, I was actually inspired to dig up other music from that year (and two to three years before) in order to maybe one day have an inofficial soundtrack. You know, it was kind of difficult, but then I remembered that punk was invented in 1977. I made things easier
  22. This is worse than aliens coming out of your chest.
