T04dSt0n3d
If you moved anything in the soldier inventory screen, elements of the Soldier Equip screen appeared in the background and if you accidentally clicked on any of them the game crashed. This is now fixed and I'm putting together the build now. Whooo sweet. How do I get a hold of the next build when released? I'm at work now and bored out of my mind... Must have new build. Max_Caine
Historically, it's announced here when it's uploaded to Desura, then when you next fire up Desura and run the game it will flag the changes with the next build, show you a changelog and ask if you want to make the changes. If you click yes, it will then alter the files to reflect the build. Be warned this can take a while, especially when everyone else is also trying to download the next build. It can also take a while for the Desura bods to actually update the build, even after the anouncement is made here on the forums.
Gorlom
Alternatively you can wait another few days and download the zip file when that is finally updated (validating that one takes longer than the client update)

I guess what I hate most is having to rely on these programs, which I’m sorry to say sux. Thanx for the info guys.
ttom154
In how much time do you guys think the new build will be out?
Max_Caine
Time to new build (t) = Time to create build (cb) * Time to upload build (ub) * Time to validate build (vd) * Time for Chris to poke validators (pv) * Time to watch a boiling kettle (inf). ttom154
So what? like a couple hours or days?
thothkins
surely t=(((cb+ub+vd+pv)*inf)*moan) where moan = whine*(demot+ven) moan= overall time lost due to detractors from message boards whine= sum of posts in forums wondering why it's not done yet ven= viciousness of said posts when deadlines that may only have been hinted at are not met demot= demotivation form reading comments on message boards. Max_Caine
ttom154. Once Chris announces the new build, it's usually within the same day-period.
Gorlom
In how much time do you guys think the new build will be out? Chris said on page 7 that he would upload the game "by tomorrow" even if the bug wasn't squashed by then. So I'm expecting a post by Chris shortly about it being uploaded and then waiting 1-2 days until the guys at Desura wakes up and validates the version. (note: the definition of a day when Chris uploads a new version is that the day doesn't end until he goes to sleep... so technically he can prolong "tomorrow" for an additional 72 hours. although he has never done that to my knowledge) Edited July 31, 2012 by Gorlom

Chris
It's up now. Would have been up earlier but my friends hauled me into the longest game of DOTA 2 I have ever played in my life.
T04dSt0n3d
DOTA rules, but Xenonauts rules more. Thanx Chris.
superpirson
any idea if/when there will be new types of planes available. I think adding things like a refueling plane or an aew&c plane would add quite a bit more depth to the air combat. you could have the larger planes drop paratroopers, to allow for quick deployment to a battlefield that's far away. I was hoping for something the fighters would have to escort and defend the slower planes against attack when inflight.
Betuor
One of the show-stoppers is fixed. The other isn't. I'll release the build with it in it anyway if it's not fixed tomorrow simply because it's an obvious bug but won't cause crashes if you know about it... Yes, it's very obvious that the game crashes when you start ground combat. I'll make sure to avoid it.
Vivisector 9999
According to the first post of this thread, new dropships won't be available until Beta (october 9 if the developer's schedule holds). New interceptors weren't mentioned, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're reserved for Beta, too.

Morgurthion
Thats what we really need, I keep getting my butt kicked by the UFO's. Try to seperate the ufo's by letting them chase your aircrafts. If they're all chasing after one of your planes, then use your other flyers to flank them. If they go for a 1 vs 1 approach things get a little trickier, but try to seperate them in a way that one of your aircrafts can flank one of the UFO's chasing one of your other aircrafts (basically send your planes off in different directions until the enemy is seperated, then turn one of your planes around so that it can chase after another UFO), the second aircraft (now alleviated of it's persuer) can then return the favor by flanking the first crafts persuer. Both of them can then easily kill of the last UFO from the rear while it keeps chasing your third plane. I don't know how understandable that explanation is, but that strategy has been working for me so far. Haven't gotten very far into the game yet though, so it might not be a viable strat later on. I used to get my ass handed to me all the time aswell. Because the old system was so simple, I didn't think that you were meant to control the combat in such detail, so I just let them attack the UFO's head on and tried to survive by using the evasive manouver-thingy. Worked in the beginning, but I soon lost at least one plane in every fight, so my economy got broken and I'd start getting my ass handed to me on the ground aswell. Creates a really steep downward spiral when you start losing aircrafts. Edited August 2, 2012 by Morgurthion
Knightpt
Its fundamental to a big project to have clear and definite goals with timmings like you have. You might not be able to do it, but at least you have a very clear idea of what is behind schedule and what is going acording to plan. Entering beta phase will be very very exciting for the comunity. Gauddlike
So exited about this game. Its gonna be 10 times better then the Firaxis one. My calculations suggest 12.25 times better, and that is a mathematically demonstrable fact.
Gorlom
I want to see that calculation gauddlike show me your mathematical proof! ^^ Since the games will be so different I cant really say if anyone will be better then the other. I think that Xenonauts will probably be closer to what I'm looking for though.
Lokik
Oh my... it's really happening. A long time ago I had some doubts whether Xenonauts is going to make it or not and now it's so satisfying to see the game taking shape. Great work, Chris. Vivisector 9999
I'll echo that. When I first heard of this game, I had a lot of doubts - and why not? A whole parade of X-COM wannabes have come and gone before Xenonauts. Who would be surprised to see one more fall short of the mark? But when my curiosity (and word of mouth) finally got the better of me, the alpha turned out to be better than I expected. The developers are doing a lot of things right in making use of their community - not just the crowdfunding thing, but also listening to them and taking their (more reasonable) wishes into account. If the developers keep working and polishing, this really could be a worthy X-COM successor in the end.
