Gazz
A man-portable 50mm rifle. It's likely to hospitalise the trooper who fires it but achieving the knockback should not be a problem.
Sathra
A man-portable tank cannon?
Gauddlike
Hollow point 50mm? that would be like getting hit by a train.
Chris
Nope, we don't have any knockback weapons yet. It's an interesting idea, although we'd have to think carefully about how it would work in-game. Shooting an alien off the roof of a building would be pretty awesome though. I suspect the animations required would be too much trouble though. In terms of vaulting over cover and kicking people in the face, I very much doubt that'll be making an appearence in the game
anotherdevil
Damn =P oh well at least there is some food for thought about the knockback of guns!

Sathra
You could destroy the part of the building the alien is on....falling damage is part of the plan .

Sathra
Sometimes you're in a hurry. Or have troops in the building. Or running out of explosives.
Elydo
Isn't that why the munitions budget has been increased? If this situation is still being encountered, I think 70% might be the next go-to increment. Troops in the building are the ones setting the explosives ^^
Sathra
They can only carry so much though.... Also, we're getting off topic.
Elydo
True, but in terms of knockback, there's a new thread for that. In terms of cover breaking, short of explosives there doesn't seem to be any way to do so. Either flank or use weapons with penetration.
Sathra
Flank, penetration, explosives and fire. And probably standing directly on the other side of the cover and firing at point blank range.
Jean-Luc
Flank, penetration, explosives and fire. Yeah, there's plenty I'd say. And it will probably be feasible to incorporate the combat shield into cover breaching tactics, the most obvious example being using the shield to get close before lobbing a grenade. And there's always the tried and true rookie death squad stun baton charge. Edited October 26, 2011 by Jean-Luc
Sathra
Or going strike-breaker on them. *whack whack whack* Target down! Shock Batons I'm wondering, will the Combat Shields be present in V8?
Nuttss
And there's always the tried and true rookie death squad stun baton charge. LOL.. never thought about them being 'death squads' ... don't think I had a single promotion/survivor that didn't do a map or two naked except for the stun baton. Giving a rookie a projectile weapon was pointless. I always considered it more a 'rite of passage'. Sorry for digging up old threads but I just read this as I was looking for something else. Sathra
I gave them pistols. Throw enough shots, and they'll hit something. Did use it for early lobstermen though. Was great fun.
Lobster Man Commander
"Lobster Man laughs at your puny weapon!" But jokes aside, I would actually love to see some kind of alien weaponry that can take break our own guys out of cover! (if not added already). Specifically the combat shields... I don't know why. But every time I picture myself using the combat shields, I see an unbreakable roman testudo-formation with tier 3 pistols/tier 3 batons... And the aliens can't even begin find a hole in my indestructible wall. Although I must admit I haven't tested it out yet. But at least in theory. It seams like a plasmaproof tactic. Hope its not completely of topic -.-
Gauddlike
Sooner or later the shields would take enough damage that they won't be such good protection though. Then you would have a bit of a problem. Not certain how the damage works yet though.
anotherdevil
Yeah I believe shields eventually break
Sathra
Combat shields aren't foolproof either I think. You can still be shot over them from what Chris has insinuated (they're portable cover, and cover isn't perfect protection). Explosives also bleed through cover, even if they don't destroy it as well it seems.
Lobster Man Commander
That's good news. Don't want to make all the other cool equipment worthless just because a single piece is to good. But I swear I am still trying out that Testudo formation!
Sathra
Would probably work kind of okay, as long as nothing throws explosives. Will be pretty slow and lacking in firepower a bit though.
Gauddlike
If the aliens stick to arrows you will be fine.
anotherdevil
no no, then they couls just loop it over the shields. It has to be direct fire arrows only...
