Ubermann
Hi! Would anyone be interested in a background mod for more serious look? Don't get me wrong here, game really is seriously good as it is. Here's some quick sketches: I used a bit of "painting" filters to make them blend better with existing art style. Here's one with some vignetting added for that nice 'oppressive' feel: I don't know yet how to implement the characters (science, store and workshop) properly or should I just leave them out. I tried adding them as portraits but it just doesn't look right: Here's where I took my inspiration. Looked so cool on 386 : I'm new to modding, will I go to hell if I just grab images from Google search? The pictures I used are actually stills from some TV show. I Hope it's not a show hated by everyone Suggestions and feedback are welcome.
Jsleezy
I like where you are going with this. You can never have too many mods so I say go ahead and try it out. I would go with the option of having a character on the left the way they do now.
Skitso
Good idea! The first two pictures looks best of the bunch. IMO you should just try to find images with a character in a right position and forget the separate portrait window. Also, That 'oppressive fell' just doesn't work here. raziel1981
looks really good so far, although not sure about the purplish tint
Jean-Luc
Pretty nice, would go well with Skitso's oppressive UI I think. A blue-ish hue might be a good alternative to purple, not sure.
Ubermann
I think too that the best option would be to find images with properly positioned characters. It will be a long journey in image search land. Could try copypasting characters: What do you think, is he serious enough? Is the style correct? Not all need to be big faces of course. I also discovered stock sites aren't really helping here:D: Hue is easy to change so I could make multiple variations.
Chris
That second picture would work well as a game victory screen, I feel!
thothkins
I quite like the purple hue. I'm with Jsleezy. More of all please
ViewThePhenom
I don't want to spoil it, but remember current back-grounds can change during the course of the game... I'm not sure if you want to over-ride that. Maybe update a victory screen background or something.
thixotrop
The stock photo background in post #6 was shouting "stock photo" to me, even before I have read your text above. It looks so typically fake (three girls: red, black and blond hair....one for everyone...gnaaaa, artificial positions, staged "happiness"), I could puke. The first images of post #1 are the best of thoses, though I like the drawn image currently in the game better. It fits to the art style of the game. thothkins
another tell tale is that no one in the background is looking up and mouthing "what a bunch of morons" in their direction.
