  1. I don't know how to say this really, but when I wrote bizarre, I though of Gauddlike and thothkins first. Now I think I know why... I always did think an extra arm would be useful, to be honest. Two are just not enough in some situations. This warrants further investigation... I wonder if there are some old Soviet nukes forgotten somewhere in the old Soviet states?
  2. No, so I can show those aliens how a true viking fights! Besides, everybody knows the elite of the Swedish Armed Forces come from up north... Or did, anyway, back when we had more than one regiment for the entire region of Middle-Northern Sweden But taunting is fun too, and scavenging their remains like a true member of my kin! Very true, I suppose I'm just used to people taking what I write in a less-than-serious manner, or at least I am under that impression. Could be me who's just a daft mammal, who knows? I was not offended. As you say, this forum is a rather friendly (if somewhat bizarre, at times) bunch, and it's nice to know that even on the Internet civility can exist (as opposed to say YouTube or BiowareSocial). No harm done and none intended, all is sunshine and rainbows. And raccoons, lots and lots of raccoons!
  3. thothkins - Prophet of the Holy Word of Buddhist Civilians! On topic, I do agree that the text could use some trimming, the rest has already been said, methinks. Might be it gets done before beta? Not all the research text is even in there, as far as I could tell.
  4. Why do I get the feeling me being not-so-serious never really carries across on this forum? Is it because I don't use smileys that often? More to the point, I agree, and I too like the way Xenonauts plays. It was not meant as criticism on the level of reality in Xenonauts, more of a funny observation. It's still more than what we get in X-COM, where the entire world seemed to have disbanded everything called military or paramilitary and put the one worst guy on the X-COM roster, anyhows. Also, in my opinion, gameplay > realism. If I want realism I'll go back to the army. Not to come off as offensive or some such, I do agree that it is an abstraction made to further gameplay, which I like.
  5. It's simple, only the African hands were lost when the Ohio was lost, and Liverpool rolled over and died when they heard the Malaysia had been sunk
  6. I was hoping for something more modern, keeping with the theme of Empire and FoTS, but well, Rome was always one of my favorite TW games, so why the heck not? Hoping for some gameplay soon, as well. The battle animations of Shogun 2 are just sweet, can't wait to see what they cook up for this one.
  7. Regarding MOO2 I think Endless Space is a good spiritual successor, or thereabouts. Certainly the 4X game that has stolen most hours of my life, disregarding MOO2 (MOO3 probably hits rock bottom on that list, just lower than GalCiv). http://endless-space.amplitude-studios.com/ It's still in alpha, but playable, as far as I know, but back when I bought it I got it for something like 10€ or thereabouts. EDIT: Alright, seems it might have been released. Was a while since I took the time to sit down, been playing Dragon Age again, and my rig has been acting much strange. Also might be worth telling that it does away with turn-based combat, rather using a battle cards system. I myself think the combat system works fine, despite being skeptical in the beginning.
  8. Gonna throw in with the lot speaking for permadeath. It's a nice change in all these holding-your-hand games of today, and it's X-COM! There's no tension in having my veteran breacher go through a door if I know he'll just be stitched back up at the end of the mission. Neither will there be those "What have I done?!" moments when your best man bites the dust due to an alien missing his intended target and striking said Rambo in the face instead (poor Hawkeye, I still remember him one-shotting Snakemen from across the map). No, I like permadeath, for me it is another way of getting involved with my troops (those who make it at least, nevermind the nameless redshirts). Plus it's always fun to see that one guy who's survived everyone else three times over drag himself from under a pile of alien corpses, knife in mouth, pistol in one hand and extraterrestrial intestines in the other, ready to fight one more time.
  9. No, not just you. Just waiting for the buggers to hit Stockholm, then we'll be rid of those holier-than-thou pests with wierd accents... That said, I still want Swedish soldiers in the game! And lastly, in all seriousness, yea, it's grave indeed. I do find it kind of funny that a nation's armed forces cannot do what a six man strike team can, but it does set the atmosphere of "Oh God we're all gonna die!" (cookie to whoever gets that reference).
  10. I wasn't implying as much, but I can see how I came of as doing it. No offense intended as it were. You do make valid points though. All well and good, and no worries
  11. Realistically, it makes sense. During my time in the army we learned that one kneeling soldier and one standing soldier is a good way to double the amount of firepower you can put around a corner, for example, without exposing anyone too much. Not to offend anyone, but you'd have to be rather incompetent to hit your mate in this situation, if you do it properly. Basically the one standing is leaning against the kneeling dude, or otherwise making sure the muzzle of the gun is in front of the kneeling man. As for gameplay, not sure if it would offset balance too much. I for one would like to see it.
  12. Oh, I see. That I should have known, and now that I hear it it does ring a bell. I blame it all on being a daft mammal, I do!
  13. Hey! There's nothing wrong with Sweden! At least I don't think so... Served 11 months "conscription" (we were volunteers but followed some of the laws for conscripts as this was during the time the Swedish Armed Forces abandoned conscription) in the Swedish Army, part of an Insatspluton (basically QRF/escort platoon). Got training as a machine gunner and AT4 gunner, but mainly served as the latter or radioman. Also had a military security guard license. After that I applied for several positions (combat medic, cook, CV90 gunner to name a few) but was denied them all, so I went with the civilian cook line instead.
  14. Oh dear, this thing is still here? I thought I saw a bright beacon on my way here, but I could scarcely imagine that it was this blazing inferno I glimpsed. It truly warms my heart *sheds single manly tear*
  15. Why wouldn't they, I wonder? I don't, admittedly, but that'd probably be attributed to my utter ignorance regarding most games of olde. No offense intended there, just wondering is all. On topic, the game does look like it's going to be fun. One thing that did strike me as odd was this one E3 interview when the guy said XCOM squad members will be more fragile than those in the original X-COM, but looking at gameplay they seem to be able to take one, two or three hits before going down. Two hits were uncommon enough in X-COM, unless you were wearing power/flying armour maybe, but three? Nothing that bugs me overly much, just an observation.
  16. If at first you don't succeed, get a Flammenwerfer. It werfs flammen. Should put the fire back in your life, no doubt, and more importantly, this thread.
  17. Didn't even know there was a right click cycle. Whadayaknow...
  18. Umm, am I the only one who can do exactly what Comassion says? When I use the mouse scroll it goes snap, normal, aimed, burst. That was in the KS build, so it could have changed, but still.
  19. Now I've just skimmed this thread to avoid spoilers, but I must say I'm a tad disappointed. I got high hopes for this flick when I learned it was a prequel to the Alien films. Seems like I won't be checking it out in the theaters after all, then. At least I saved roughly 10$, always something.
  20. This. Hitting something in the dark is very hard, not to mention night fights are confusing. I remember emptying half a magazine in a tree stump, thinking it was a target. Would be nice if one could add "false" enemies to night fights, but I'd wager that'd be too much work.
  21. It pains my thieving heart to see this once-bright beacon have died to barely an ember in my absence. We need gasoline, matches and that young lady from TrashMan's posters! With a little luck, we can once again have the fires of hope burn bright on this forum! (Too much? I blame the fever!)
  22. You can manufacture laser weapons by reverse engineering plasma weaponry, and the game files show quiet a few interesting tiers as well. I personally don't mind ballistic weapons being unlimited, because they are pretty worthless (try taking down a Sebillian with a pistol, you'll get the much-coveted Racoon Stamp of Approval if you succeed). Besides, I'm in on the whole idea that the world's nations would provide stockpiled guns for Xenonauts (being the best and last hope and all). Actually, Xenonauts approach is much better than X-COM, IMO, where you could just skip the laser guns and go straight for plasma, and then have the best guns in the game.
  23. I've had this happen as well, quite a lot too. I'd say 1/5 Sebillians become Ceasans upon death.
  24. You can set them to reserve APs for reaction fire, but I don't think it actually does anything beyond limiting your available APs as of right now. I learned that the hard way when a Sebillian rushed past two of my shotgunners set to reaction fire. Medkits don't seem to work, at least I can't heal anything with them, all I can do is throw them in the face of people. Kinda counter-productive I'd say.
  25. I think you are, Max_Caine. At least I don't, I just come here and hope you've posted some new stuff. You're my number one go-to guy for XCOM: EU. That in itself actually merits a Racoon Stamp of Approval! Good work! p
