The Dragon
First off, i'm very sorry if this has been brought up before, but it's a bit annoying having to check over 1000 threads for this. So to my question, how does a ships datacore get destroyed if the alien ship landed in perfect condition?
Tobbzn
It's destroyed (by you) if you've already collected it earlier on that save. It's a silly mechanic, and one I would propose changing into either selling or granting a diminishing amount of research points, but hey, that's how it currently is. Jean-Luc
Yeah, using up only "one of each" takes away from the success of securing a UFO especially if you make the effort to preserve the hardware. Some reward for "non usable" items would be nice.
Ishantil
Why they not be the most valuable thing second only to the UFO engines?
GizmoGomez
We just need to balance the economy to take into account selling most everything that's normally destroyed after a ground mission. Corpses, datacores, etc. Live aliens should give even more money.
Nickboom
I agree here when I first played and learned that alien bodies dont even sell for money I just pictured some man sitting in a office chair going "WHAT the ability to research an alien HOW ABOUT NO" *slams phone down*
Elydo
Could always tie subsequent datacores to flavour research; topics that provide a bit of optional lore/exposition. Have an additional two or three topics per ufo type, but give the recovered datacores only a chance of unlocking them, each subsequent topic being a lower chance. I'm sure the community could skyball some ideas; the OG had the entertainment devices, the abduction rooms etc. Adds a compulsive element to trying to complete everything there is to know, whilst not penalising the player if they opt out. If it'd be a lot of work for the team though, it's not an option.
Chris
What's the issue here? Are datacores being listed as destroyed in the mission end screen? They are only ever used once by the game, and are a trigger for the UFO research. They should only be listed on the mission-end screen the first time they are recovered. Elydo
Yup, currently listed as being destroyed on the recovery screen at the end. Every time, bar the first when they're sent to research. It took me a while to realise it was automatic, rather than me somehow blowing the thing apart when I was taking ever-increasing risks to try to not even scratch the damn paint... Nickboom
Chris we are just questioning why you just blow up datacores and ufo parts after you get them once also alien bodies should sell for *some* money much more if they are alive. Ishantil
Realistically, every Alien (dead or alive) or piece of technology would be saved. I assume they money given for those is a reward for their capture?
Chris
OK. As a temporary workaround I'll change the "destroyed" text to read "recovered" for datacores. The cash you receive after a mission is you selling the recovered artefacts to governments once you have taken what you need.
Nickboom
So then why is the stuff destroyed with no money bonus I can get the aliens because in killing/capturing them you are already getting a funding bonus but for the UFOs you dont seem to get any bonus after the first time of getting something. Tobbzn
I think recovering a datacore should give a temporary research speed boost. For example, a Light Scout Datacore boost could give 10% faster research, lasting for an additional 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 research points for the first five recoveries. It would keep you proactive when it comes to research throughout each wave, and it'd provide incentive for doing some crash sites without incentivizing doing all of them. The Dragon
Wow, my post is getting alot more attention then I thought it would... Plus on a side note, what Elydo said would be rather nice. Some flavour to the UFO research would be very interesting and give my scientist something to do when there are no projects. Same. > see the end-of-mission screen > "What am I doing wrong? I used shock sticks the whole time!"
