jtgribs
I pre-ordered Xenonauts last January and I don't believe I had the option to request a Steam Key. I hate Desura. I mean I absolutely despise it. I'd much, much rather have a Steam Key when the game is released. Will I have that option or am I going to be punished for being an early adopter? XenoMask
You'll probably get key, but why do you hate desura? Performance issues when updating Xenonauts?
iamkyon
Goldhawk have signed a distribution deal with Valve, and anyone who so wishes will have the option to get a Steam key on release.
Commissar Pancakes
You'll probably get key, but why do you hate desura? Performance issues when updating Xenonauts? This. Desura's not bad. It just...doesn't want to cooperate most of the time (for me, anyways...).
XenoMask
For me only game it doesn't work well with is Xenonauts and only when doing large updates.
andrei1988
Hey Guys. Personally i am only desura for this game, once alpha build comes out then desura gets abondoned for steam. Sorry desura but I like steam better. (Just pre-ordered this game and its already giving me attitude)
ThoseDeafMutes
Nearly my whole library is on Steam, so I'll be playing the Steam version. It's just simpler when I don't have to log into multiple services to get access to my collection. Plus, I get steam overlay in game by default and it tracks how long I spend with it. You don't need to be logged on to desura to run the game. only to update it. (but you can use the stand alone download for that as well. And you can always add the game to your steam list manually as long as it's installed on your computer.
mace6442
I hate Desura. I have all my other games on Steam and want this on there too.
XenoMask
Hate is such a strong word
jtgribs
I have all my games on Steam. It does everything I want. Desura is like MySpace. There's really no reason for it to exist. Nobody wants to be bothered dealing with Facebook and MySpace. I really don't want Desura on my PC in addition to Steam.
Dilettante
I have to admit I have not been impressed by Desura so far. I found it unintuitive to go to "play" in order to install a game I bought through them, and that I have to manually log in each time, and that it doesn't just start with my game library but instead shows me ads. When I installed Xenonauts, the download failed four or five times - I never have this problem on Steam. When I finally finished, I discovered that I have the same MCF problem others have mentioned, and it had all been for nothing. I eventually downloaded the standalone instead and am now much happier not to bother with Desura.
XenoMask
Start with ads instead of game library? Umm, what do you mean? I mean basically isn't that what steam does? It starts in shop... Also, you don't need to log in to play Desura games And it only has that problem with Xenonauts.
Commissar Pancakes
Actually, I've found that it always starts you in your game lobby.
Wintermist
I do prefer STEAM myself, too many games spread out all over the place make sit hard to keep track in the end. That's my general reason.
Honelith
Can't wait to uninstall Desura. But saying that, they do have alot of great looking indie games on it though...
mordenkien
also cant wait for game on steam...preorder xeno and had massive chew getting desura to let me run it steam generally better however asked desura support for help with xeno and they fixed it in less than 18 hours .asked steam support for help 3 days ago still waiting for reply...... steam generally runs and looks better than desura but i also like decent support so im 50/
XenoMask
Just try to buy some more obscure great indie games from desura that will never get released on steam and you'll see why I like it
Gauddlike
Steam likely has a much larger budget to play with. I reckon Desura would be equally flashy if they had access to the same funds. I think of it in the same way as I do games. Steam is the big budget company while Desura is the little indie dev. You may not want to support the little guy which is fine, but I don't think it's fair to criticise them for not equalling the AAA studios. Hosi
valve is closer to AAAA while i don't like desura much myself, the program is clunky and whatnot, i see where it is needed, valve won't host games untill they are done/almost done/you are going to charge money for it. desura is for everything before that point. use it and move on to steam when you have the ability to get the much wider audience
Dilettante
Fair points being made here. I do like to support indie games; I have a GameStop and GOG account for a handful of games that simply don't exist on Steam, and it would be hypocritical of me to not give Desura a fair chance. What would people recommend on Desura that is worth taking a look at?
Gauddlike
http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/2987-Great-stuff-on-Desura Few games in there people suggested. Also Underrail is trying to get on as well.
