  1. ...can't tell if Troll or if you're serious... Okay. Well...let's humor you a bit: On being a Spiritual Successor: They don't need permission. There is no law stating that you will be penalized for creating a game that is extremely similar to another. If there were, most of the FPS genre would not exist (as they would then be considered DOOM clones). Thus, "riding on the coat-tails of the originals" as you have so eloquently put it will always be a given. Hell, XCOM: EU depended on it (look at the massive amount of negativity surrounding the FPS version under the name of the series and its subsequent delay into XCOM Declassified). The term comes from the fact that it's not related to the series (continuity wise) in any shape or form. Yet it is similar enough to a series that it can be construed by the fans as a sequel due to similar mechanics. Regarding the mention of the UFO series: They never claimed that they were the only ones. "Retaining all the key mechanics of the original games": The differences between the mechanics of X-COM (1993) and XCOM: EU are night and day. Pretty much the only thing similar between the two are the fact that they both contain the same enemies. Xenonauts follows more closely to the mechanics of the original, and thus is more in line with the feel of such.
  2. Commissar's Log: Entry #458872322 Have encountered a strange heretical pagan ritual being carried out beneath the pretenses of worship of He that sits upon his Golden Throne. Swift action was utilized to quell such vile prayer, and order was returned in a blaze of cleansing promethium. Commissariat action 10-70 was enacted on poster #801, carried out immediately. Poster #806 was thrown into a vat of molten syrup. Addendum: One count violation of sector laws has been observed. Immediate response against poster #805 is recomended.
  3. In other words: Xenonauts runs on the engine that brought you Diner Dash of all things...
  4. *Evacuates the brains from the head of poster 802 in a fiery fashion* ...Such...friction...over whom poster 800 is...
  5. An asylum still exists?! I thought I had liquidated all of them as they contribute nothing to the (Forever) war effort.
  6. *looks up from beating a rabbit and top hat with a BEATING STICK* Someone say something about witchcraft and pansy-magic who-ha?
  7. Speak not of what was deemed Excommunicate Traitoris.
  8. The multiple Lobstermen in the unreachable shipping containers...let's just say that the commanders back at base were stuck with cold spam for dinner...
  9. It was reported as a bug. It was kept as a (rather poor) replacement for our much-lamented flamenwerfer.
  10. Perhaps, but we've also been taking breaks (in the length of months) so that the game feels fresh again.
  11. Just so you know, I featured this thread in my literary presentation for college. ...the comments weren't exactly...scathing...
  12. Beating Reapers into a pulpy mess with your Assault Shield/BEATING STICK mass of redshirts.
  13. There used to be one...but the coding proved...heated comments...to the well being of the rest of the game.
  14. Certainly someone's gotta spark their memory on what this was all originally about...
  15. Most likely due to the fact that the aliens have a farther sight range than your troopers. And since aliens share squad sight...
  16. They're pretty much gimped MG troopers. That 50 round belt that is unreloadable is just not enough of a trade off for the larger TU well, in my opinion. Especially if they're still as fragile as I remember them to be (i.e. can only take 1-2 shots before being knocked out). If anything, I'd wait only after I can also produce the laser cannon, but by then I'd probably already unlocked the Hyperion.
  17. Me thinks we all need a lighthouse to act as a luminescent beacon back to the main point of this thread...
  18. Quick question: Which news outlets are you sending review codes to?
  19. ...I was able to identify myself...but the NUMBERS, Belmakor! What do they mean?
  20. If I remember correctly, it's not so much as UBERSHIPS HAVE COME TO F*CK YOU UP so much as OH GOD ALL THE SHIPS. Alien Battleships are their strongest, but I think the plan was to have larger and larger waves attack, utterly swamping your defenses, thereby forcing you to take the final mission.
