This mod adds small icons of soldier roles to the soldier minibars above the panel in ground combat.

Community Edition 0.27+ is required.

1.2:

How to install:

- Install the file using Modding Tools in the launcher and exit the launcher (or manually unzip the archive into assets/mods/minibar-soldierrole).

- (On Unix-like systems, or if you know how to do it) Apply the patches from assets/mods/minibar-soldierrole/ to game files and possibly assets/mods/xce/ files.

- (On Windows) Go to assets/mods/minibar-soldierrole and run minibar-soldierrole.bat . It will patch necessary game files and create backups of them with the .minibar-soldierrolebackup extension.

Changelog:

1.2

  • Apply properly to X:CE 0.27.

1.1

  • Update to work with X:CE installed using launcher's Modding Tools.

1.0

  • Initial release

FAQ:

  • The TU bars are sometimes mis-aligned.
This is a bug in the progressbar drawing, not in the mod. It has been fixed in X:CE 0.25 . You can try to edit assets/scripts/combatguiexport(_large).lua and decrease widths of xxx_hpbar items by one as a workaround (and it will only mitigate the mis-alignment, not fix it completely).
  • Is this mod compatible with mod XYZ?
The mod uses a text patch utility that is quite intelligent about merging changes even to files that have been modified. Unless something changes exactly the same items as this mod does (which is unlikely) , there should be no problem. Since other mods seem to work by replacing files as a whole rather than patching them, it is recommended to install this mod as the last one.
  • How do I update this mod if the game updates? Is this mod compatible with game version x.y?
As said above, the mod is good at patching files even if they have changed slightly, so if the game updates files relevant for this mod and overwrites the changes, it should be enough to apply the patch again (and possibly revert it first). If there will be any problems, the patch utility will report problems while applying the changes (you may need to run the patching from a command shell to see the error messages). Generally, if anything else fails, resetting your game to its original state (e.g. verifying game files in Steam) and applying the patch again should work.

Is it possible to have those roles images above the heads of the soldiers at all times? It is very annooing to search for a sniper from 8 soldiers that look absolutely the same.

For some reason I have black spots where the role should be shown. Could it be because all roles I have are custom created?

Additional Info:

Using it on the most recent v1.7 gog install. Other mods would be Skitso's 2k Mappack, Rank Insignia & Femonauts but I doubt there is a conflict. Minibars is installed last so nothing should have overwritten it.

The installation ovewrites game's files for which X:CE has its own files, so the game's files are ignored. Copy assets/scripts/combatguiexport(_large).lua over to assets/mods/xce/scripts/ as a temporary workaround.

When I install and run the .bat file in a stock game I get the spaces where the role indicators should be however the actual symbols don't show up.

As above, this seems to not work on v .27 of the XCE. Trying to use the mod installer fails with the message "this is not a mod .zip", and manually putting the folder into the correct place and running the .bat seems to have had no effect.

seems to be working fine with XNT 6.0, here is the trick for Win7:

1) unpacked manually into assets\mods\ folder

2) edited the file minibar-soldierrole.bat, the first two lines should be like:

cd ..\..\cd "Program Files\Xenonauts\assets\"

3) run it "As administrator"
