Gengis Dhen
I'm in the process of combining different mods. I've had mixed results so far with a lot of CTD's resulting in full game re-installs. I will post mine when I have what I want to play with and is stable... Please help me and others by posting your mod combos. A BIG thank you from the start to all Modders out there for the work and effort you put into making these mods, for us, for free. Any input on this post from you would be a great help to us all. I'm running with these compatible mods http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/10689-%28New-version%29-XNT-Into-Darkness-V5-0-PlatinumDragon-%28New-Game-Universe-Mod%29 XNT Into Darkness V5.0 - "PlatinumDragon" http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/6662-Jsleezy-s-Real-Armors Jsleezy's Real Armors Mod http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/8216-Jsleezy-s-Real-Fighter-SOUNDS Jsleezy's Real Fighter SOUNDS http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/7357-Jsleezy-s-Real-Fighter-Portrait-Pack Jsleezy's Real Fighter Portrait Pack http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/10166-Skitso-s-Ultimate-Megamix-Map-Pack Skitso's Ultimate Megamix Map Pack Thanks Gengis Dhen Edited June 20, 2014 by Gengis Dhen
kabill
There's a list of mods stickied at the top of this subforum which indicates (with varying degrees of preciseness) the files the mod affects. That might be useful to you?
Gengis Dhen
Hi kabill I've seen your name a lot on this forum and respect your input However, apart from the obvious combos it's not proving that easy to combine to what I want. One mod that appeals - Magnum-nauts is I believe knocking out the other mods. This is a shame as it seems to be the only mod with a whole bunch of new weapons - which I want. Any thoughts? Could you 'flesh out' your 'By Our Powers Combined' mod pack? Edited June 19, 2014 by Gengis Dhen
kabill
I'll definitely look at doing that in the future, other mod authors permitting. I'm kind of waiting for vanilla updates to die down before doing anything at the moment, though, as I can't really keep up with updating things every few days. Max_Caine
The question is really, what do you want? What mods do you want to combine? What are you after, and perhaps I or someone else can help you.
kabill
Yeah, that's probably an easier question to answer.
Gengis Dhen
Thanks for the reply kabill. Yer, I understand. It's all early days still... Like I said in my original post, I think a list by someone highlighting the possible mod combos would really help the community. Thanks for your help. Gengis Dhen
What do I want? Well - A fuller, more polished game. Cosmetics: Deeper, richer, more polished - not game changing. Soldiers: More RPG element. Slower ranking as not wanting squads of Colonels/Generals. Guns/Equipment: Lots! Aircraft: More planes and maybe attack/escort helicopters. Experience gaining. Assault vehicles: Manned and experience gaining. Tactical maps: Lots of variety. Different levels/heights of ground. Military maps, bunkers, foxholes, trenches, towers, etc. 2 story plus buildings. Angled crashed UFO's. Playable shallow water. This is a start guys Edited June 19, 2014 by Gengis Dhen
Max_Caine
My crafting and alchemy skills are lower than kabills' but I can tell you straight off the bat what the consequences of integrating three mods would be: Mangum-nauts. Wholly incompatible with anything that mods either weapons or equipment. Mikhail has done a lot of sterling work in revising the tiered system to run soley on ballistic weapons, but the consequence of that is you would have to integrate ballistic weapons from other mods by hand. Additionally, anything that affects equip screen UI, or the contents of UFOs will be overwritten by Magnum-nauts. Magnum-nauts does not afect anythign else, so any other integration should be risk-free. XNT into Darkness. Wholly incompatible with Magnum-nauts or Just Another Total Overhaul Mod for reasons already given in the case of Magun-Nauts.XNT will overwrite JATOM and vise-versa. XNT and JATOM are friendly towards small mods, as they maintain the basic overall structure so integration is not only possible, but sometimes encouraged. However these are total conversion mods, so adding new things will throw off the mechanics that the modders have devised. Gengis Dhen
Thanks for the explanation Max_Caine. Do you (or anyone) know if Mangum-nauts is compatible with Jsleezy's Real Fighter Portrait Pack?
Mikhail Ragulin
Thanks for the explanation Max_Caine.Do you (or anyone) know if Mangum-nauts is compatible with Jsleezy's Real Fighter Portrait Pack? It should be, but I can't guarantee it - I can't find a list of what files the portait pack changes, although I doubt they'd be the same ones. Try installing Jsleezy's first, and then M'nauts over the top of it.
Gengis Dhen
Got it, thanks Mikhail Ragulin. Just re-installing again... After my last test with the combos, Steam had left some files still installed so all my new testing was false so back to the drawing board... Will post results... kabill
For what it's worth, checking compatibility is pretty easy. If you download the mods you're interested in and check the files they include, you'll be able to see if any mods contain the same files (and therefore clash with one another). Mikhail Ragulin
It's best to make a copy of the game folder and placing it out of the reach of steam. I don't use the steam version to play, I just leave that as a "clean" Xenonauts that I copy to elsewhere to play, if that makes sense. It stops steam from altering things. Gengis Dhen
So Mikhail Ragulin Magnum-naugs just will not install!?! What am I doing wrong? I'm using a clean install and unpacking to 'assets' folder. This is the crash report. Mikhail Ragulin
It's possible that, if you've been trying to install other mods in the steam folder, the steam folder might not be completely clean (steam won't delete non-steam/extra files which could be causing a problem). I'd suggest deleting the Xeno folder in steam and doing a new download. That's the only thing I can think of, as I haven't had any crashes using it, and no-one else has reported any. Other than that, it might not be compatible with the latest Xeno release (1.05? 06?) - although it should be, as the changes have mainly been in the exe since 1.03. Gengis Dhen
Hey Mikhail Got Magnum-nauts to work! I'm running with this + Jsleezys Fighter and Armour's packs together!
