I haven't met anything bigger than corvette, but for the scout I just send the 2 F17s head on in to it, roll the one targeted first, fire a missile or two, roll second fighter if it gets shot at now, wait for UFO to roll, then fire more missiles. They now all hit and the UFO goes splash. The corvette, found that F17s could shoot it down with cannons because its turnrate is so low

In case you might be thinking about going to GDC 2012, Devolver Digital are hosting a pitching session in which you can pitch your indie game to their "Fork Parker" guy, infamous from the Serious Sam BFE campaign, and maybe get some kind of funding. http://www.devolverdigital.com/pitchfork Just a thought if you're going

The best weapon is the LMG it has more range than the Sniper and deals way more damage -
It should be possible with most games.

Firaxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced!
poulwrist replied to Moonshine Fox's topic in Off-Topic
You basically throw scorn on me and anyone else who enjoy what you described as inane in the X-Com game. Especially bizarre considering that it's largely something that's a part of Xenonauts as well, and various nonsensical things in the same matter has you going all "ooh let's do this or that". It's pretty much the same as saying you don't want the game to position the base levels according to the base overview. -
Which Era of Gameing have you enjoyed the most?

93-04. This period has the most awesome games of all time come out on the PC. Prior to that the games worth playing were generally out on Amiga and Nintendo's systems. -
Firaxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced!

Too bad for you, then. I can see the fun in that. I would suggest you keep retarded fanboyism to private messages. There's really nothing worse than rabid fanboys crying about how this or that has been changed to something other than their "perfect image" of whatever it is that's being discussed. If you're old enough to have played UFO when it was new, you're old enough to not act like that. -
Firaxis Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced!
poulwrist replied to Moonshine Fox's topic in Off-Topic
RPS has a 3 part very long interview with leadguy on the new X-COM game here http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/xcomint/ It sounds like a very interesting game, and I think that his thoughts are something that Chris should definately look at and consider. There's been a lot of development time put into what they're doing there, and they've worked hard to make a new experience that still remains "X-COM" in spirit. While the gameplay will be rather different, almost like a pen and paper roleplaying game (being a big pnp geek myself, a lot of his concepts sound instantly familiar). While it's not what I'd expected, I am positively surprised, and I look forward to trying it as well. I'm sure both games will be good in each their unique way Anyway, check out the interview, it makes for good reading. -

New Research screen UI for comment
poulwrist replied to Chris's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Visible research trees are bad. The enjoyment of research is as much the surprise of what you become able to do. -
There'll probably be flak about the lack of women in final reviews now a days you have to be immensely politically correct, lest you take flak for misogyni. Even if there's none intended or even imagined on part of developers. I guess because of the whole bit about women in 99% of videogames being more like some kind of porn fantasy than anything else.

Heya Lurked for a while, and preordered in may last year. Got the game for my brother for xmas old time x-com fans both. Started out on TFTD which I found in a supermarket bargain bin in a "Best of some-publisher" style box in maybe 94. The box art and blurbs on the back grabbed my interest and I spent 10 euro or something on it and went home and was immediately hooked. Been playing many X-Com style games over the years, but very few managed to be any good. The first of the new "UFO" series was decent after a thousand community mods, but it was never really that good. Xenonauts, the alpha build I've tried so far, first I actually played was 8.9, had me sitting and playing it for 7 hours the other weekend when I first booted it up... I must say, after trying that, Chris and his team has to work really hard to screw it up Been trying to spread the word about the game, looking forward to seeing the next posts about the press build on RPS and PCG Hopefully more sites will pick up and we can get some more money into the system /Poul

New Intercept window for feedback
poulwrist replied to Chris's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
I like the window, but I dislike the tilted UFO design in the latest update. Maybe if you tone down the red in the top-down thing ever so slightly to a less harsh red, it would suit better. The top-down is the most representative and it's somehow more delightful to look at the silhuetes and be able to immediately recognize them rather than look at things and go "huh". -
New Research screen UI for comment
poulwrist replied to Chris's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
It looks great I do miss some kind of graphical representation of what it is you're going to research. For some reason I like seeing graphical images of things I might want to know more about Apart f rom that, the only other thing I could see which could make it better would be to have it overlaid by a muted soundscape of people mumbling, computers humming, glasses jingling and a beep here and there. -
What features would you like in the Funding Thermometer?
poulwrist replied to Chris's topic in Xenonauts General Discussion
Well, you could gift the game to your friends if you want to spend more -
I am generally slightly concerned about scaling issues with games these days as I play at 2560x1440 (27" monitor) and some just make a mess of the UI at that res, if it even is a selectable res that I don't have to go hunting for in an ini file somewhere. Present Xenonauts hud is kind of small'ish, but not too bad. Just cluttery and fiddly. If the hud scales, or there's a scale-slider somewhere, that'd be great. But other than that, I agree with your first post on the subject. Hopefully most these things will have hotkeys attached to them.

You could just download it and upload it to Google docs and convert it

Actually you can overwrite your save if you just write the same name again, it'll ask if you want to overwrite. It would be useful if you could just doubleclick the save and overwrite it that way.
-
Well, you could just have them apply to characters sort of at random, or base it on stats. Like, get 70 accuracy and your guy gets a +5% crit bonus when using snipers... something like that. But I figure that in the end when you have many soldiers, the point of it will disappear and the game is better without the added layer of complexity.

Haha I suck, I clicked "link game" even though I preordered from before Desura, and now I get just the standard preorder ((( my life is over!
