  1. I think a Q.R.F. (Quick Reaction Force) / Reinforcements would be a great add to this game. If you had the transportation and units to allow it that is. For example if your team was getting completely destroyed you could call in for reinforcements. Instead of completley losing a team. IDK the mechanics of the game, i havn't been able to play Alpha my current location prevents me from that. But whats the communities thoughts on this?
  2. Biggiest different between the two is the size of the round M16 = 5.56 rounds AK47 = 7.62 rounds and besides the fact that the AK is a lot more resilient to harsh environments.
  3. Instead of having it Human player vs Alien player why not just have it where PvPvE (Player vs Player Vs Alien) Where the players are competing for the prize or atleast make that a game mode. Instead of a capture the hill it would be secure the crash site. Just limit the technology players can have or have them choose the highest tech tree before starting they enter there loadout and the match begins.
  4. Imo you wouldn't have to desync players in the transition from geoscape to battlemap. You could have all players sync by time... A global clock that continues to run even if you are in battle, geoscape or construction mode. So, while a player is playing there mission; time is still realistic ticks by even though its a turn based game. How ever long it takes you to complete the mission is how long you're on the battlefield and how much time has progressed on the global clock/geoscape clock. I would suggest that the global clock go slightly faster then the regular speed on Xenonauts geoscape view, but not as fast as the x2 speed. About 40 to 45 seconds for every minute. Making geoscapes like "micro servers/lobbies" so that the geoscape planet view is the server governed by that global clock. So that instances of alien invasions would continue throughout the progression of time even if on a battlemap. Having the players "orgination" join this world/server and placing there base onto the geoscape. If a player leaves the geoscape then his/her base disappears. It would just have to be programmed so it takes the accumilative lvl of each players tech tree and it generates the according type of aliens, so you could base that on the highest players tech tree or a medium of all the players. I think it could be done and believe it would be fun.
  5. In my opinion ground battle could work. For example lets say there was 4 players playing spread through out the world. Like Russia , South Africa, North America and Australia. If a UFO was shot down only the players who's crew could reach the crash site would be invited to send a team to recover it. Those who are not involved in the battle would just have to play at normal speed. Now this i could see getting annoying, but if you limited the amount of turns that took place on the battlefield before aliens "fled the scene" or you captured or failed the mission. It wouldn't be perfect but i think it could be done.
  6. I think thats a good idea... Would you also have it where you could make the detainie kneel? It would cause the civ to burn AP to stand thus not running farther if you were trying to secure them.
  7. I agree that the world involved would be huge and thats why i had stated that this idea would be more for a patch or a sequel then the current game being developed. Also i wouldn't cause your gear to be affected by the weather just your soldiers performance. Your soldiers wouldn't need to have variable gear for there not planning to stay there for extended periods of time. As for the Geoscape map it would be more for cosmetic appeal and for time reference. To give the planet itself more character...after all its what your defending along with the life on it. I'm not saying that the game would be worst without this feature it would just add too it i believe. Thanks for your opinion i enjoyed reading it. To the question "is it more fun" would vary, some would like the extra dimension and most wouldn't even realize it. They would play regardless...
  8. I don't believe adding the weather system would hinder gameplay if anything it would expand upon it. Not only would your troops actions be affected by weather but also your enemies, some could even thrive in different climates. The environment itself could be affected, fires burning out more quickly in bad weather. Weather has always been a factor in real life to soldiers, and representing that in a stragety game based around ground movements Imo would fit well. Players are just use to 2 dimensional fighting like PvE or PvP, players aren't use to a PvE vs the environment, I believe this to be the next step in gaming as systems and technology improve, but i feel until they do; a game with xcom style mechanics could pull it off. On the global scale, different regions could get attacks from different types of aliens during different seasons. For example a reptilian type being wouldn't necssarily attack colder part of the world during winter. I dont know all the alien races but weather effects all life. Weather could add another dimension to the game, you as the player are put in a General style leadership position to defend the planet. As so, you have to build a base while managing units and resources, and also reverse engineer and produce alien technology. So, you should be looking at it as so. Whats the theater of war in which your soldiers will fight to defend of humanity? Whats the environment? Are there civilians? How many? Whats the weather? Whats needed to accomplish the job? Etc. All im saying is that in any military operation that has ever exsisted in human history, weather has always played a factor, its life. You dont always get clear skies and sometimes it affects your Ops good or bad. Putting the feature in with an option to take it off though Imo would work...some like that extra X-factor in there.
  9. I agree that adding it now would be pointless and just cause production to be delayed but the idea in a patch or update or even a second version would be interesting to see. But, i dont think the geoscape map would be that difficult. It doesn't have to be a dynamic weather system for the world map. It could simply be overlapping the original global image and having it change seasonally/quarterly. Example It would be more of a cosmetic thing but i think it would show the passing of time a little better, and if weather was incorperated into the battle map it would represent what a person should prepare for. Weather may cause you to change up your tactics, bring different gear. Thermals would prove much more effective in a battleground with lower visability due to weather then a sunny day in a surburban battlefield. Snow would slow your troops down (lower ap during movement) which might cause you to have your troops pack lighter for the battleground. Imo, it would add a different aspect to the game and bring i guess a tiny since of realism. I know most people dont want change and just want there good ol' carbon copy of X-Com, but i think the developers of X-com if given the capability would of reached a little further in there dream for the originals. We all love this style of game i just think adding new elements would be interesting. I do agree and dont beleive having this in the original launch of this game wouldn't make sense, I would prefer the current release date then a delay. But like stated above i think a patch or upgrade with these features would be a great added bonus. Anyone elses thoughts on the subject?
  10. First off I'd like to start this post by saying a lot of my suggestions or request i don't expect to be in the initial launch of this game. These are more of cosmetic features/suggestions that could add more depth to the game in minuet ways. Also if weather has already been discussed, my apology. If you ask any soldier anywhere across the world he will tell you that weather and terrain dictate tempo of a battlefield. It dictates on how you can attack the enemy and the movement speed of your troops across the battlefield. Thus, I believe a regional/seasonal weather system would be fitting for Xenonauts. On the Global map seeing winter snow fade in and out as winter comes and passes would add a cosmetic appeal to the game. On a battle scale snow or rain could hinder troop movement and sand/snow/rain storms could lower visibility. The global game map is already separated into different regions of the world. Your half way there in my opinion, now all you have to do is add different factors to these regions of the world. Like if its between Month A to month B a sand/snow/rain storm is X likely to happen on this region of the world and Y likely to be represented on a battlefield. Obviously to represent snow/rain fall in the game would be a little difficult so i propose to just have snow fall on the ground or make the ground a little more reflective if you will to represent rainfall and maybe a 10% loss of visibility and slightly increased Ap to move while outdoors. I'm assuming one cosmetic issue that would show itself is how do you prevent this effect from taking place indoors and that in my opinion where things will be a little difficult, I don't know how the developers built the game engine and if buildings are represented differently on a map then the under layer of the ground. On to the next topic Terrain bonuses, I've seen the cover feature which i think is a great feature that's been added. I was just curious to know if there's going to be an elevation bonus. If a soldier is on the second floor or roof of a building will his visibility or accuracy be improved? Will terrain add any bonuses to the combat? If not i think this would also be another feature that would be nice to add. Again if this topic has already been posted my apologies. Like i stated before it would be more of a cosmetic addition to the game with slight feature improvements. Something similar to a NASA weather satellite, if you will [Example] Seeing weather phenomenal take place on the global map would be interesting as well. Please post your own thoughts on the topics and if you think they would add to the game play. Primarily the weather, it would be more of a visual representation of time regarding the seasonal effects on the global map.
  11. Also i think having the host of the game be the one that saves the game data and distributes it when the game is reloaded would be the most effective way.
  12. Well i believe that if you were to simplify some of the mechanics of the game multiplayer would be feasible. All you would have to do is make the global view turn/day based and have different events spawn across the world. Instead of engaging ufo's you would be more of an Alien Q.R.F. (Quick Reaction Force) reactiing to Alien landings and abductions. The players would choose where they want to send there team according to what form of attack, some would stay there more days then other for example. You could even make each turn half a day or even break them into quarters. I guess the best reference would be is civilation meets X-com. Civilation as in a player would do what ever movements or management he could do in that turn. Having the engagements be like randomly generated maps how they are now just loaded to multiple players. Players would complete there mission, some quicker than others allowing the other players to manage there team during this. But i suppose a turn limit while on mission would be required just so players wouldn't take a lot of turns on any given mission. Like i said i think it would be possible if the game was made a little more streamline. I would take the loss of controlling the clock if it meant i could play with other players.
  13. [Forgive me if this discussion has already been brought up.] Not saying in the inital launch of the game, but a patch in which we "X-Com" /Xenonaut fanatics can challenge each other or work cooperatively would be a great achievement for the genre. The way i see it theres two ways to do it. One would be where 2 + players would work together to fight off the alien hordes invading the planet. Allowing the players to either share a drop team or use separate teams & bases to protect the world. Or... In which each "corperation" or entity would choose a starting location and compete for a nations support. For example. Lets say player A has his base setup in europe and player B has his base setup in southern africa and a crash site is created be either or in northern/central africa. The two players can both send a recovery team. On the actual battle map the players would both be competing against each other to recover the alien artifacts. Which would add the dimension of PvP should players choose to take it to that level. If player A needs the alien artifacts to continue funding his/her base and there projects, then that player may see it fit to fire upon the opposing force. Also I seen in various videos that you must hold an alien craft for 5 turns to complete the mission. This could also transition into this style of gameplay. Another aspect of this form of gameplay i thought of was invading another players base. Lets say a player took too many casualties in a previous mission and has maybe a small squad thats mission capable. Raiding another players HQ while they dust off there heli to a crash site for equipment or artifacts would be another way of earning money. Obviously the hardest thing to overcome would be how would you do multiple battles at once and how would the global clock transfer over into the ground combat. I've been trying to think of different ways to balance the game and actually make this idea plausible. What i do know is that the players allowed per "arena" could not surpass 4 for if you were to keep the mechanics of the game the same, it would create too much wait time during and in between missions. But I have thought of the time speed pertaining to the global clock, and each player could queue there desired speeds for the world to speed up for example if 3/4 players click x2 speed and one player click x3 then the speed would go x2 and so on. Its just an idea, working out the mechanics would in my opinion be the hardest thing to figure out but it is a feature that i would love to see created for this genre. I would defiantely dedicate countless hours if i could sit there and compete or even play on the same planet as another character. I would go as far as investing/donating a couple thousand to see this feature actually take place....what's everyone elses thoughts on the subject?
  14. Hello everyone, new to the forums, but i had i suggestion for the game. Seeing that Civilian casualties actually matter to your mission score. I think being able to contain or direct civilians to a "safe" zone while on the battlefield would be useful and add a new mechanic to the game. Maybe at the expense of AP as in zip tieing or detaining civilians just so they dont run into danger. or even have it where you "sacrafice" one of your own soldiers by having him setup a quartine or safe zone which creates that soldier into a "beacon" of types where civilians in his sight would run to him as if the soldier were calling them to safety. This request for this feature isn't at the top of my dream list if you will, but i do believe it would add a new dimension of realism. I try to picture the scene of an Alien fighting force landing in on a heli, dismounting it, setting up a parameter then bounding forward directing humans to the land site as they secure the area.
