  1. [reaching for the box of tissues]
  2. The original Zombicide looks awesome. Thanks for the info. Shame you can't get it in Australia for anything much less than AUS$115 in store; postage from all the OS mail orders is approx AUS$60...... Sigh... Edit: found it on Amazon for AUS$90 including postage. Have a mate in NYC atm looking for it in store to see if any cheaper)
  3. LOL, you regret your previous swearing about paper never being replaced by digital??? Not only am I still very firmly on the paper side of the fence, but even more old skool (perhaps tight?), I mostly only read my local libraries content, who haven't quite gotten the latest Hamiltons.... Unless I'm travelling OS for work, when the temptations of the airport newsagency has been known to get the better of me...
  4. I second Peter F. Hamilton, I can't get enough of his stuff.
  5. BETA? yea-ha! I'm looking forward to finally reinstalling Xeno after months of keeping myself sidetracked with other bits and bobs.
  6. Oh god, oh god, the overdue Xenonauts beta release means humanity will be ill-prepared for this alien invasion. Humanity is doomed, and its all Chris's fault!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo...... ;P
  7. After further playing, the tactical combat seems to be a minor component, the cityscape the major component, the latter of which is not really my thing.
  8. As Steam is designed to do, this popped up the other night in my subconscious via a Steam ad, what caught my eye was: "Turn-based tactical combat with a cover system and stealth action" Free demo available on Steam, so thought I'd give it a go. http://www.cityofgangsters.com/us/#!/game - RPG-esque character and gang development - city scape - small scale tactical battles that share the turn-ordering system of Frontline Tactics, with a Movement and Action Points system. Biggest disappointment so far, is that they have not implemented any kind of Overwatch/Reaction fire mechanism, (unless its a 'perk'?), which is infuriating- hole yourself up in a room, hide behind a desk, nevertheless opponent can sprint all the way in and kick you to death without you being able to react till your turn.... You can see the AP/MP points component in the tactical interfaces below:
  9. Some may disagree with that generalization (about quality)..... e.g. http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/3051-FRAY-a-cautionary-tale-for-Indie-developers
  10. "the tickler" Seems apt to me, though I may have had a female pleasure device in mind...
  11. WOW! Didn't even know a remake was in the works, so this is a great post-Chrissy present.!!! Now that I have FINALLY satisfied all my XCOM EU urges (till they release a map pack...) and until Xeno Beta arrives, I think I've found my time waster.... Edit: though I can't actually get the resolution right to get it to fit my screen, even with settings up to 1680 x 1050.... Edit #2: fixed it, the dreaded text size / dpi issue on windows 7 - set it back to 100%, and hey presto!
  12. Grouse news! Looking forward to a beta date to reacquaint myself with the game!
  13. Hmm, I wonder what the consequence of setting of high explosives near the missile battery will be? PS thanks for posting, I never look at the main site..
  14. The new age of gaming; post your memorial wall entries on facebook? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/12/11/they-shall-not-grow-old-the-xcom-memorial/ I think my friends would be concerned to find their (named) corpses their RIP....
  15. Probably get a faster and more in-depth answer by posting here http://forums.2kgames.com/forumdisplay.php?75-XCOM. I have played both Normal (to first understand the game) and Classic (and tried Impossible), but I've been playing it with BlackAlpha's Warspace Extension (very strongly recommend), which enables the Impossible AI at lower levels, plus removes some other odd AI restrictions (such as limitations on the number of AI groups active at a time, etc). So I can't give you a 'vanilla' viewpoint. PS - I gotta say, in terms of hours played, this is some of the best value I've had from a game in sometime...
  16. Absolutely hilarious, and Yahtzee I think sums it up nicely! (Warning: old skool fan-boys get a little lash.... ) http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/6468-XCOM-Enemy-Unknown LMAO! Proviso: I am an old skool fanboy, and am nevertheless very much enjoying it with mods!
