  1. I've had peek-a-boos before. One of those Mind Control guys popped out, MC'ed my soldier named after me (#22 in case you're wondering ). Worst part was that that soldier of mine had 100 TU, 90~ Accuracy, and 90~ Strength. Had a lot of HP too (I built this guy up to be a super soldier). He was carrying a MAG Rifle with Sentinel Armour (one of the few guys who had it) and he slaughtered 2 guys. Everything went to hell at that point. One of my guys with the shotgun MAG went berserk (while near 2 other guys) and killed one. 3 guys panicked and ran. Fuuuuun times.
  2. Apoc was fun, though it initially seems more constricted (you play in a mega-city instead of the globe). TFTD is my second favourite, then UFO: EU. The horrific part is when you meet the brain suckers and those things that explode and let out several worms. The horror! I've had many a mission go pear-shaped and down a clogged sewage pipe because of those bastards...
  3. I generally use them to scout or hold my flank once I know where the enemy's ship is. They rock in the beginning.
  4. I don't know if this has changed since I last played. But I used to put my guys in rows at the door, pop a couple of smokes, open the door, pop another smoke, then throw several stun grenades, close the door and put my guys on reaction fire. Throw in a couple of stuns every odd turn and that's it. On the odd occasion that the aliens are dumb enough to try to run out, they'll run into one of my guys at point blank (who also happens to have an auto burst set for reaction fire). Again, haven't played for a couple of months so this might have gotten changed.
  5. You guys are simply amazing. Thank you for the hard work you and the contributors (testers, modders, etc) have done!
  6. Dark Souls II. The stats don't even have any tooltips (that I know of). All I know is to fight.
  7. Good stuff flashman, I like the way you think. To the Goldhawk Crew, congrats on your progress!
  8. I'm in Sydney so I still have to travel to Melbourne for it. Rather expensive what with the hotels and stuff. Still, it's worth it.
  9. A few quick ideas for Gauddlike's questions, though I might flesh these out a bit more later... Funding provided by nations: The member nations don't have much stock in the Xenonaut project. They prefer to believe in their own military and as such, they only pay lip service to a project that's doomed to fail. By having the Xenonaut project, they hope to at least slow the enemy advance until such a time that they can more effectively fight and repel them. What happens when an aircraft is downed: (I'm not sure if it's a 100% return rate thing as I've lost a few) Unfortunately, the aircraft was severely damaged in the most recent skirmish. Luckily, the skill and determination of the pilot prevented the total loss of our aircraft. They were able to return to base (albeit barely) and land. Due to the damage being so severe, it will be a long while before this aircraft is ready for action again. Why are the soldiers not at 100 already: Being that our member nations do not believe in the project, they have chosen not to send the best of their forces. They prefer to keep their elite soldiers for their own defense. The soldiers that they have provided are either rookies, or those deemed "expendable" by them. While this means that we are forced to train them ourselves, it does offer us the opportunity to train them in our fashion and to use unconventional tactics. --- I hope these are at least a bit useful...
  10. One pilot controls the main rotor and the other dude controls the rear rotor.
  11. I ordered all of the Epic books when I finished reading XCD. It's pretty damned good, I'd recommend it for anyone who likes sci-fi action stuff reminiscent of the old X-Com games. Any chance of knowing when a release date is possible for the 5th book?
  12. I've only recently tried the map pack but so far as I've seen, it's pretty darned good! Thanks for creating the compilation!
  13. The map situation is good enough as it is (thank god it wasn't as bad as the X-Com remake, now THAT had barely any maps). The map packs that the wonderful modders are putting out make it even better. As for an earlier gripe I read about the lack of cover; That's why you need to carry smoke grenades. Each of my soldiers carry 2 and they pop them off as they advance. Hell, I don't think I even use cover on most of the missions.
  14. After following this game since it was but a few-paged website, I'm so happy to hear that it's approaching the end point. I'm proud to have backed the kickstarter and gotten my name in game (soldier 22 ). Congrats on you and the team getting this far and doing one helluva job at it. I've enjoyed this game since getting the beta (or was it Alpha?) on Desura. If you guys ever pop down to Australia for PAX, I'd be honoured to buy you all a round.
  15. It's coming up to Christmas mate, I'm quite certain that the majority of us would rather that you guys took a break, enjoyed, then came back bright eyed and bushy tailed. Personally, I'm fine with the release being pushed back, I've waited a long while, what's another few months?
