  1. I don't get hyped for games anymore, but I am looking forward to the following. Fallout 4 (I can already see that mods are going to make this game amazing) Mass Effect(4): Andromeda Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Rise of the Tomb Raider (the timed exclusive BS, bothers me so I'll probably wait for a steam sale) Shadowrun: Hong Kong Mad Max (really hoping they get this right) Doom Games I'm interested in but not really concerned about. Just Cause 3 FFVII No Man's Sky (Pretty skeptical this will be anywhere near as great as they say) Horizon: Zero Dawn If any of these don't come to PC, I likely won't be playing them.
  2. If I may add a couple of observations. Bravery and reflexes should take priority when selecting new soldiers as these are the most difficult to improve. Sometimes soldiers will have a decent line of fire on the tile an enemy is standing on but won't be able to actually see the enemy. One of my snipers was able to kill a Caesan on the second floor of a warehouse this way. If you have multiple crash sites make a save before sending out your dropship. This way you can if a site disappears en route you can reload and airstrike it. Look at how much money you'll get from an airstrike, and send your dropship to the highest paying site. Unless you need a relations boost in a certain area more.
  3. I like them, but In my opinion the top of the caster is still too straight. What do you think of adding a carry handle? I was thinking something similar to what you see on the M60/M240. http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110512000816/deadliestfiction/images/6/66/M60_Machine_gun.jpg
  4. Nicely done, I like the addition of a collapsible stock.
  5. I like the idea and the look of the dart gun, but I find myself wondering if this is OP or not. I was under the impression the game only gave you stun grenades and the stun baton in order to make taking an alien alive more risky.
  6. I usually save after dealing with a wave of UFOs and send my dropship to either to the largest crash,if there one isn't larger I'll pick one in an area that has lower funding. After that site has been cleared I try to clear at least one more crash site on the return trip. If one of the crash sites disappear, I'll go back to the most recent save and airstrike whichever ones I can't get to.
  7. Good to know, thank you. I'm using the XCE, does that make base attacks more likely?
  8. Was not a separate question, just an extension of the previous question. I apologize for the confusion. So, keeping a fairly high number of soldiers in reserve in your main base is acceptable, but you don't keep any at your other bases? Do you place AA guns in your other bases or in your main base? How many is usually suitable?
  9. Ooh, kill me! KILL ME! You know you want to. If it makes any difference I'm a pretty good shot IRL, so I'd serve you best with an M16 or DMR(Designated marksman rifle).
  10. I suspected you might say that, I'll definitely install this before I start a new game. Keep up the great work Kabill.
  11. I am not afraid to admit that I am still learning this game, so hopefully asking these questions will help myself and anyone else who stumbles upon it. I did a search on the forum, but didn't find the answers I was looking for. How many soldiers do you usually keep? Logic dictates that you'd have at least one full dropship at each base, but I know from reading the forums this is actually counterproductive. So, do the resident masters of the game only have a full dropship at the main base? How many soldiers do you keep in reserve(if any) for base defense or deaths? Do you only have soldiers in reserve at your main base? I know the best defense against a base attack is interceptors, but what if all of your interceptors are grounded or chasing other UFOs? The AA guns are not guaranteed to stop an attack. What happens if your base is taken by the aliens Are you able to liberate from the aliens? If you are do you lose the contents of your storeroom, are all scientists/engineers gone, are any structures destroyed? Thank you to everyone for any help you can give(or have given in other advice threads) and I hope you enjoyed my click bait title.
  12. Is this mod compatible with games that are in progress?
  13. That happened to me last night, my second sniper got shot in the back of the head. I wasn't aware that dragging the wounded helped survival chances. I know that they aren't always dead at the end of the mission, but If you use the number hotkey you can select the downed soldier. If I open the inventory it says "(KIA)" next to their name, I assumed this meant that soldier had no chance of survival.
  14. OP, it's understandable that you're frustrated. Since you mention Enemy Unknown, I'm assuming you're used to games that give the player an advantage or is equal to the enemies. Xenonauts is one of the (relatively) few games that has the player at a disadvantage. You need to rethink your instincts about how to play this game. Games like this can be very frustrating no matter how long you've been playing. It's not uncommon to start making more mistakes when you're angry, lack of patience in difficult games is quick way to lose. When you start getting frustrated take a break and do something else. I hope you've found helpful advice here and I hope you don't quit. And save scumming. Don't take that they wrong way, I do the same thing. I treat every dead soldier as a personal failure. Despite that probably 80% of my soldier deaths are RNG being unpleasant.
  15. RNG is a hateful creature. there are couple of threads that give advice for this game. http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/12086-Need-a-bit-of-noob-advice http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/11375-General-strategy-for-survivng-at-insane-tips-needed Also, I think you've overlooked a valuable resource. Youtube, watch a few let's play videos or try to find a stream on twitch. Watching what other players do and asking the reasons behind decisions will give you valuable knowledge that is sometimes difficult to get from strategy guides.
  16. I'm also a Navy vet, so I can confirm that endersblade is correct. Skitso this is inconsequential but would you consider making this mod compatible with the basic armor from Jsleezy's real armors mod?
  17. I agree the that the wound and damage system is fundamentally flawed. The enemies are using plasma weapons. Plasma is superheated gas, so any wound inflicted by a plasma bolt would be instantly cauterized. There would be no bleeding, so unless you soldier was hit in a vital area he or she would live. They may be unable to fight at all or very effectively, they might also pass out from pain. It's possible they could die from shock, but this would take a little time. As a veteran I can tell you that the body armor I used was minimalist. I had a plate on the front and back of my torso and a helmet. That armor is far from perfect but it significantly reduces the chances of an instant kill.
  18. I agree that there is a discrepancy in the amount of alloy needed. In general planes do have a very thin skin, reduced weight makes it easier for aircraft to take off. Armor is usually only attached to vital areas on an aircraft. Body armor is different, currently many soldiers prefer not to use body armor because they prefer to have speed and maneuverability. Common body armor often has either thicker kevlar or plates on the front and back of the torso. Some armor has plates on the sides of the torso as well, but they are usually thinner and any type of plate limits flexibility. Full body armor like bomb suits (juggernaut suits if you prefer) are uncommon but sacrifice almost all speed and maneuverability for maximum protection. If I remember correctly, the lore for one of the alien ships mentions that their skin is extremely thin. If that's right it gives some credibility to needing a significant amount for body armor. Body has to not only mitigate the force of the impact from the plasma bolt, but also be thick/heat resistant enough to keep from having a hole burned through it.
  19. Another suggestion if I may add one. I'd greatly appreciate a mod that allows you to form squads/fire teams/strike teams of soldiers. The obvious place to put this would be the soldier management screen. This would allow the user to put X number of soldiers into a squadron and then place that entire squadron into the Charlie-1. This would also help if like me you split your squadron into two equal sized strike teams. If possible I would like to see this implemented into ground combat as well. A separate button for strike team A and B, perhaps with a line or box to show who is in that strike team. Clicking this new button would select the highest ranking member of that strike team.
  20. Nice, work Eisfunke. The vanilla plasma carbine reminds me of the P90. Personally I would probably have shortened the scope on the plasma rifle. Perhaps cut off what's in front of the small screw towards barrel of the rifle. For the carbine I'd either keep the iron sights or Change the vanilla version to something more like a reflex or holographic sight. This is just my personal opinion, I like what you've done but I thought I'd give you a couple of ideas to consider. I'm not not sure why, but I prefer the versions with the cover on the battery. In my mind it seems like something to help keep it in place and protect it to some degree. I'm not sure I'd want to find out what happens something pierces a plasma battery. Nice catch Kitten, didn't notice that at first glance.
  21. I like it, are you planning to redo any of the other weapons?
