Ndition
I would love to see the Xenonauts have weapon modifications like M203 grenade launchers, acog scopes, red dot sights and grips which would add different bonuses and disadvantages to the weapons. anotherdevil
Brought up a lot, and it's not going to happen as far as I'm aware. Makes it too complicated, messy, micromanagementy, etc.
Sathra
Pretty much. Either the effects would be so minor its not quite worth the art and coding effort, or the advantage is better served by using a different weapon class (sniper, carbine, etc)
Straker
How about an M79? Its a basic single shot grenade launcher produced since the 60's. It would nicely fill that indirect fire niche for those who don't like throwing grenades.
Sathra
Part of a different discarded suggested (basically extra indirect fire weapons). Balance issues, since they take a huge amount of risk out of the game.
anotherdevil
why don't you like throwing grenades? And essentially wouldn't it be the same as throwing the grenade?
Sathra
Throwing at rifle-type ranges (and similar accuracy).
Chris
Yeah, I don't want to overcomplicate things too much. All the weapons have their niches so rather than adding a scope to an M-16 you may as well go for the sniper rifle etc. It'd be a pain to balance it all too. anotherdevil
Ah right, well if you mean as Sathra said, we have the rocket launcher for that
Jean-Luc
The rocket launcher is for those who don't like throwing rockets.
anotherdevil
But who doesn't like throwing rockets? I used to love it! Was my most favourate thing in the world! Of course that was back when I had both arms...
Sathra
And face. And original spleen. Could always have an RPG-7 instead though. Don't they fire in a slight arc?
Chris
According to Battlefield 3, very much so.
Sathra
*shrug* I got the info from Andy McNab's old books about his SAS service in Yemen or something. They had big tall walls or something so they couldn't arc the shots into the fort.
anotherdevil
shoot near vertically?
Sathra
They'd have to come close enough to be seen and shot by the troops to do so, which was the point. I think the Yemeni rebels still managed to do it anyways. All Fremen-style skills and whatnot.
Chris
I thought using RPGs against infantry got you called a n00b lamer though? Again I'm basing this all on BF3, which as you can see in the video below is a fully realistic depiction of modern warfare.
anotherdevil
Didn't you know that they teach that in flight school? It was actually one of the deleted scenes in top gun... =p
Sathra
That's awesome. Dunno about using RPG's against infantry being a bad idea, the whole 'concussive blast' and shrapnel from everything would be pretty effective. I know using shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles is a good idea though, due to them being 20kg frag grenades or something. Not very economical though. RotGtIE
It's too bad about those grenade launchers. They're usually suggested as an indirect-fire weapon which for good reasons won't happen, but I'd have liked to see them implemented as a direct-fire anti-armor alternative to rocket launchers. Rocket launchers are heavy, long-range, single-shot weapons, and grenade launchers could provide a light, short-range, multi-shot alternative for dealing with enemy armored vehicles. Not much of an issue for me, though, since I would probably avoid using explosives at all costs anyway in the endless pursuit of loot. Really as long as there's smoke, nobody should have a whole lot to worry about in terms of exposing their soldiers to risk. It would be nice to be able to prime smoke grenades (and all grenades in general) for a burst immediately upon contact, before the turn in which they're thrown is over. Do we still have lethal gas grenades? Or flashbangs?
Sathra
All grenades are impact triggered in Xenonauts. We will get nerve gas and stun grenades, but I'm pretty sure they require research.
