Dowly Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Made this mod for personal use, but sharing is caring and all that so. The aim of the mod is simple: it changes the black water to a dark blue color in Geoscape view. Screenies: Installation: -Back up the geoscape .PNG files found in [Xenonauts install folder]/assets/earth (the ones starting with 8184) -Drop the files to [Xenonauts install folder]/assets/earth overwrite if prompted Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?9sapm6ajm1qsqpz NOTE: This was just a quick and dirty re-coloring, so there may or may not be areas where the dark blue has bled to areas where there shouldn't be any. Though, I've played for 20-30min with this and didn't notice anything major. Quote
Jean-Luc Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 OMG it's so cartoony! Just kidding, very nice. I believe Chris actually had plans to recolour the geoscape in a similar way but that was so long ago and I've no idea how his plans have changed since then (if they changed at all). He even posted some wip screenshots but I doubt anyone can find them now. Quote
Giovanni Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Nice, but still prefer the black version. Just wanted to remind you that the map will be changed, due to clipping issues (some islands were cut off by photoshop), os you'll have to update this when it's done (: Quote
Dowly Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Yeah, I actually prefer the black version too. Just that I'm forced to play using my telly as monitor, so the dark blue is a bit easier on the eye. Quote
thothkins Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 nice, thanks for going to the trouble to do this. I'm quite partial to it myself. Quote
Gauddlike Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Now if only you could rebuild the missing islands and coastlines of the world Quote
schneckk Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) Hi, how about this? :] // I'm sorry, it was little bit brighter :] this should be better.. http://imageshack.us/a/img16/492/earth2.png http://www.mediafire.com/?22r36k4cnd96ech Edited October 5, 2012 by schneckk Quote
Giovanni Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 "It's all so colorful.. and bright.. *aargh!* my eyes, they bleed!" Never mind, good work schneckk! I'll just put on some sunglasses Quote
ElTee Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Haven't installed it yet, but Dark Blue > Black. To me, it makes it easier to see day/night time Quote

thothkins Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Yeah, I could see me using the dark blue one in the final game. Quote
Gorlom Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Hi, how about this? :] // I'm sorry, it was little bit brighter :] this should be better.. http://imageshack.us/a/img16/492/earth2.png http://www.mediafire.com/?22r36k4cnd96ech I'd like the land colours from the first onc together with the ocean colours from the second one. (I'm never satisfied, am I?) Quote
schneckk Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Maybe you will be satisfied with this? I think Africa is very bright.. http://www.mediafire.com/?qplgduh477gnjh8 Quote
Giovanni Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Hey schneckk, just wanted to say that your bright map made me see of how awful is the current system of changing the lightmap suddently from a day to another (for example as it happens on September, 8th), so I implemented a smoother transition between them. So thank you for making it, this little effect probably wouldn't have been done otherwise Quote
schneckk Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Wow, that's cool. I'm glad that I can help ;] Btw I've removed the white sea-space from north. And map has some minor issues like borders or corner transition. I'm sorry for that :] Here are two new versions: Bright version: http://www.mediafire.com/?89tgfc3obxkgyd8 Doomy version: http://www.mediafire.com/?cti5l5clkcv44n6 Quote
