Darth Draken
How come land mines never came in to the game?
thothkins
Possibly because you would curse every time you wandered into the land mines the aliens kept planting around their ships?
Ol' Stinky
Possibly because you would curse every time you wandered into the land mines the aliens kept planting around their ships? I think he meant for use by us, so I'd curse every time I wandered into the land mines I kept planting around alien ships.
thothkins
I was really meaning that the game should have balance to it. So, for every request we have to add device X to the game for the Xenonauts, it makes sense to point out that the aliens should have a comparable device Y to balance things out. Hence, walking around in their mine fields. You're right though, you can always forget where you put your own mines for comic and tragic outcomes. I imagine, that there would be enough squealing that the devs would have to add something to remind you though, should such a thing ever be implemented. A further point is that a lot of the game focuses on the combat abilities of the soldiers. Having mines detracts from this a bit, as would support weapons. Having said that, there are the tanks... Gauddlike
Mines are generally a defensive area denial weapon while Xenonauts troops are normally on the offensive. The only situation in the game where mines may be justified would be for defending your own base and even then only for the perimeter which is not shown in the game anyway. When assaulting an enemy position the use of land mines doesn't seem warranted.

This, i would rather use grenades or rockets than mines
vaultdweller
They were useful in the OG for both blocking the exit of a UFO while exploring the map, and for blocking hallways when assaulting alien bases.
PerfectDeath
Proximity grenades? Make them do primarily suppression as they could slow a charge/flank long enough to reposition.
Valentine
Proximity grenades?Make them do primarily suppression as they could slow a charge/flank long enough to reposition. I have wanted these for ages! Would be useful in terror missions and presumably pretty easy to program
MrPyro
I have wanted these for ages! Caaygun
Land mines are against this really, so I vote against. Battles should more more be an exchange of shots rather than try to trick enemy AI.
warioland
Proxy Grenades in Terror Missions: I have no idea how that could be useful as civis love to stroll all over the map during alien apocalypses.
Darth Draken
I have found after i land in any mission the drop ship gets attacked by aggresive aliens. Then once they are down the second set defends their ship. And the third is on the command deck. But having the option is nice.
