When selected soldiers have less than half hp, have a heart beat track play.

I would find that very annoying in anything but a role playing game where you only controlled one guy. I know they did that in JA2 and I didn't like it. However, I would be opposed to a warning that one of your guys was critical and needed first aid NOW. Something in addition the "so so is losing blood message". Just as a reminder.

Disagree; if you don't notice your soldier's nearly dead, that's your own fault for not being attentive. ;)
Yeah, but sometimes you have other things to take care of the turn it happens and might not notice how bad things are right away. Besides, IRL your guys would be calling for a medic or something. An additional, so and so is critical message wouldn't be so bad. Either way, I don't want a flipping heart beat track playing. That would drive me up a wall.

Fair enough, maybe it'd be too much.

What about just adding some battle chatter to battles?

Like, during turns there are random chances of your soldiers just talking to each other, based on their statuses, and you get little text strings on the bottom of the screen of what they're saying. If one of them is injured past certain percentages, then they're calling for medical assistance, or another one will tell them they need to get patched up or something.
