Purchasing Vehicles?

How does one purchase vehicles? The manual says to click on the empty vehicle slot, but that doesn't seem to work for me. Now that there's not starting vehicles I feel a lot more naked going into battle.

The manual is out of date. You must research then manufacture them.

Manufacturing them? You only can buy things which are available from start. Fruits of research have to be produced.

So there's no such thing as beginning of the game vehicles? Darn.

A few versions ago the Hunter was starting tech and could be purchased. Now you gotta make 'em yourself.

the 1st ground vehicle is very early in the techs. You can make one after 2 or 3 research. It comes at the same time as the MIG-32.

It is made in the engineering tab of the base

You research the first tech (automatically) which take few days i think, then you can research the hunter. Sometimes i have time to research it before i see the first UFO!

Yeah I quite like the change.

It makes you feel like you are accomplishing something from the start.

So can you not have the 8 troops + vehicle anymore?

Nope, it's now either 8 troops or 6 + a vehicle. The next upgrade is 12 troops or 10+1, the final upgrade is 16 or 14+1.

I'm just about to go into the latest build. How do the squad size limitations look at the moment with the ai improvements?

Pretty good. I don't use vehicles since I find them inefficient compared to having 2 more soldiers. The first Landing Ship is pretty hard, but you get the chance to get the next dropship after capturing one.
