Are laser weapons in the alpha?

They should even be in the "demo" available on the kickstarter page (the campaign is over but the kickstarter page is still there)

I say demo because that is what Chris named it but really it is just a very stable build (like version 10.2 or something, we are at version 17.6 so it's relatively old though) of the alpha.

Pew-pew lazors is such a hassle for not enough bang, I daresay. Now Alienum (I'll never learn to spell that, I think...) warheads is where it's at. A MiG with four of those babies will make that pesky corvette think twice about strutting around my planet.

What's that? Fighter escort... Well, darn...

In all seriousness though, I do think the way towards laser weaponry is long (but as Max_Caine said, fun-to-read busywork). I rather like the fact that they are not inherently better than ye olde slug thrower either (at least not last time I checked), which was something that always bugged me in the original.

Will keep those eggheads busy at least. I never did understand all their writing and scribbling on that blackboard, seems to me that there's a whole lot of effort involved in getting something to go more boom than before.

Now don't get me wrong, more boom good. More boom mean more dead alien.

It would be easier to just say human tier 3 and tier 4 weapons. It is currently a bit hard to understand the question without looking at the spoiler.

No, those are not part of the alpha.

I just came back from a session, and I had tier 3 available for research before even tier 2 (down to the lack of a certain artefact, no doubt). Kinda lacking in the description department and I've not tried to manufacture them, but they are there in the list of weaponry to be manufactured.

That being said, I think Chris said that anything above tier 2 hasn't been properly balanced yet and is actually weaker than some of the earlier weapons.

Also, regarding personal armour, I'm pretty sure Wolf armour has been available for quite a long time. Just a lot of stepping stones to actually being able to produce it.

Cool!:cool: The point of lasers on X-COM and the reason they were my favorite tier (Plasma is evil) was that they had no ammo.

Now I know I can use a strong and expensive plasma gun, because if lasers had ammo on the OG, I woud never use them on the ground battle (Sellig aircraft lasers for fun and profit!).

Here we go, the exact qoute from the "V17.6 Released" thread.

Research tree: I’ve been working on the Research Tree, on and off. I’ve written about 45 of the research project descriptions now, with another 30 or to go. The entire research tree should be in this build, but the mid-to-late game has not been balanced at all. A lot of the end-game equipment is actually worse than the stuff that came before it for that reason. Wait till beta before pushing too deep into the game.

So that would mean everything you can research is in the Alpha as of now, in varying stages of completion and balance.
