windex
I installed 8.2 the other day and remember it being listed in the thread that there would be a research tree in this build. When I go to my base and click on the research tree nothing comes down, it is as it was before in 8.1. Did this have to get left out for some reason and did you mention it after or am I just looking in the wrong place. Do I need more money before I can see it, more bases? Sathra
You need loot from the aliens. Finish a mission and you should get about 4 new research options. This is because Laser weapons requires researching alien weaponry (and a bunch of other stuff).
Chris
Yeah you need to capture something to research first. If you use debug mode you can press 'V' to win a mission automatically if you can't be bothered to finish a mission yourself (or the game's not stable enough for you to do it). windex
Ok, thanks, sounds like a good concept. I haven't had a chance to really play this build. I just wanted to check out some of the new features real quick. But yeah, this wasn't in x-com defense(I can just go in and research lasers before I even have my first mission), nonetheless I like it better this way, it adds another layer where you have first discover the technology and then fight fire with fire. Sathra
It also adds an extension to the Ballistic era. It takes a LONG time to get to laser tech. Something like 7 topics.
Jean-Luc
Yeah, in X-Com lasers were human tech but the setting was also a futuristic one. Since, afaik, effective handheld laser/energy weapons still don't exist today in 2011/12 it makes sense that they'd need to be based on alien technology in the 70's.
