  1. Chris please tell me the new games will be on an appropriate engine for tactical/strategy games! Id love to see what you can produce when not hobbled by terrible engine choices.
  2. VIP missions can make sense under a terror mission type, very loudly and flashily killing world leaders and other people of import would be quite a morale killer as well nudging nations to signing a pact with the aliens (if thats in xenonauts as opposed to them merely stop funding you).
  3. Can someone put back in the ability to drag and drop soldiers around in the dropship view? As in dragging someone over an occupied space will switch the two. And you can move tanks around without having to unassign the entire squad. Another UI issue would be how the 'build new base' and 'launch interceptors' buttons are just white text. Could it be possible to have them be in a grey or white oval ish shape to help them stand out.
  4. Would it be possible to add in a 'fire and flee' and 'focus escorts' mode to autoresolve? Where your foxtrots, or long range missile planes, just fire their payloads before hitting the afterburners instead of stupidly fighting to the death. I figure itd be a nice gimme to people who suck at AC, and ease the tedium of fighting targets that need multiple waves of interceptors. (Havent used autoresolve with Foxtrots against something they cant completely kill, so if this doesnt happen anymore you can ignore this post.)
  5. Sorry for the unclear bits, it was 3amish when i posted, heh. In a row, or just ever or what? Don't get this one exactly. Healing should probably be just total ever, cause I dont see much point to a per mission total. Damage and hitting a target should be in row and in a mission. Though a medal for taking 10 times your hp in damage over a campaign and not dieing would be pretty sweet. Can you elaborate on this? The was hit n time condition is just a general one like getting damaged or hitting something. The friendly/civilian/xenonaut unit modifier would be something thats added to other conditions, to allow stuff like healed N civilians medal, prevent multi kill medals being awarded to particularly bad rocket/LMG burst shot, etc. And two new ones I came up with were tying a medal to item(s) recovered, including data cores, and causing units to panic, since weapons can deal morale damage its probable that a mod will eventually have a human weapon that does it.
  6. Well here are all 33 nations that Xtended Background added that arent in base: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil*, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Cuba, Egypt, Iceland*, India*, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland*, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia*, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, North Korea, Philippines*, Portugal, Rhodesia, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden*, Switzerland*, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Yugoslavia. Plus breaking up the UK into England, Wales, Scotland, and Ghurka; I figure using the flag of each nation and the UK's for the Ghurka would be the best bet. The ten with an asterisk means that a kickstarter also claimed that nation. And I think some of them have changed their flag since 1979, as an FYI, though using modern flags for Kickstarters would be a nice little distinction
  7. The system sounds flexible enough, assuming theres enough conditions . As for people caring about medals thats harder to tell, I wanna say yes since its another way to add flavour and 'story' to the game and individual soldiers. And can we get a list of the current hardcoded medals? As for conditions here are a few (many stolen from here which has a few interesting combinations): Stun/Kill N [sPECIES,RANK]. leave rank blank for any, plus add a way to say this rank or higher Campaign medals, given for surviving, say, 5 missions in a given funding region or possibly even terrain region Is Night mission Failing a mission Surviving/Dieing in a mission Amount of xenonauts casualties taken A time, or mission, range to complete requirements Stunned/Killed X aliens in N turns. Since Im guessing 'a kill n aliens in one grenade/rocket blast/auto fire' would be hard to code Resisted mind control Resisted panic Last N surviving member(s) of squad Armour and weapon specific conditions (and vehicle specific and 'is tank y/n' if vehicles ever get experience) Healed X units or Y total damage Survived N damage, sheilds should be included in this but i can see an argument to separate them. Distance field, or just simply target was in/out of fog of war. Hit target N times Was hit N times As a modifier, is friendly/civilian/xenonaut unit Meet conditions without being knocked out/killed Is dead check, or following conditions happened after death Is highest rank present or surviving Only fires once (or N times) modifier, to say only award medals to whoever completes 'storyline' events. Could be tied to research the mission unlocks Sorry for the long list, wouldnt be surprised if many if not most of them are too hard to code in.
  8. Forgot to add this in my last post, but bonds0097 for your eventual medals project I feel this post would be a good start for possible medals to add, though some will definitely need a name change. (Thanks to Pinetree for linking the mod that came from that thread)
  9. I saw the changelog yes, but its not the same thing as a features list. Some one on the fence about using it, like Lerzan, wont go through all of them to see if theres anything they like, especially since it would be reasonable to assume a change log would be filled mostly with bug fixes or techincal details. An example feature list would be like: Memorial Wall Quicksaving added speed controls in air combat Multi mod loading support (Later in the post, but before the changelog explain how your supposed to install mods for it to work) Large sections of the game now moddable Put in a few major examples here [*]And a Ton of bug fixes! You get what I mean. Just like if you made a mod and were to explain what it does and why someone should get it.
  10. Figured itd be best said in this thread, but in the X:CE download thread can you make a list of the added features? As in the memorial wall, soldier scroll buttons, etc. Feel having them all listed out would help convince people to switch
  11. FYI Ogaburan the spreadsheet of distribution isn't in the download. If intentional you should remove the line stating that they're in the dl.
  12. Only ones I can think of would be the countries Ogaburan added in Xtended background. (The mod he based it one got added to the game I believe however? So only nations he added [iran last time I checked] would be needed) But since its a mod you could argue that those flags dont have to be done now, or by you either. But I do think a generic United Nations flag should be done if as nothing else but a default/fallback flag if one wasnt defined for a given nationality.
  13. Or if its too much work for you to do can you at least make a guide or tutorial on how you did it, particularly your manual edits/fixes (outside of obviously bad stuff of course, im talking about changes made to improve play or flow). I expect there was more than just make a bunch of random maps and make sure they work. And if Solver and others get other tile sets to be added in I dont think youll want to keep doing it for the other 'integral' sets that the community will develop.
  14. If this mod is done could you make a thread for it in the finished mods forum?
  15. Would it be possible to add a stun 'kills'/captured counter to soldiers, along with additional medals for them? You can just put in a conditional system to add more medals if that would be easier, which might not be.
  16. Id post my combined files, but I gotta run to class soon so Ill tell you I did. Jsleezy added a new ethnicity/portrait type called 'cust' and added it to both the top of the file and under individual nations in soldiernames.xml. And for a few nations he also changed the previous probabilities instead of just adding his to the end.
  17. Ive actually copied the code Jsleezy added to make his mod work into Xtended Background's files. I can post it if anyone wants, though Ill need to update the Hungarian names section first.
  18. Jsleezy, can i make a request for portraits from the other areas of the world? Middle East, South East Asia, (East) Asia (ie China, Japan, Korea). Since after merging your mod with Xtended Backgrounds I figured itd be great if it could cover all participating countries.
  19. Thanks for updating this mode to 1.06! Love that its back. And FYI, the link to Pinetree's original mod doesnt work, and nor does the one for the male/female distribution graph.
  20. Solver, could also look into how easy it would be to add, or allow others to add, the unmet stretch goals from kickstarter? Im not asking for you to do them I just want an educated estimate since your the only that can. Here they are for reference: Military Base terror mission tileset (which should be possible when additional tilesets are allowed) Tileset-specific friendly AI soldiers (Dont we already have this?) Motion detector Soldier Memorial screen Vehicle combat experience Pilot portraits & callsigns (Can someone also explain this one, outside of portraits I dont get what its supposed to be. Unique pilots who gain exp?) Proximity grenades Tall grass (And this one as well?) Human psionics and blaster bombs mod Techically not a stretch goal, but some adding some form of support for a flamethrower And for good measure a Data/Charts/Graphs screen. Its all that Xenonauts is missing, for me, to be a total spiritual successor/remake to XCOM!
  21. Since its been a while since last update is this compatable with 1.06? It should be right, assuming you copy and paste the data in and not overwrite it?
  22. Im having the same problem aswell. For me atleast, the forced fullscreening occurs when you select a resolution that is as wide as your screens resolution. Havent tried it with height only, mainly because it doesnt show an option for that.
  23. Not sure if this counts as a bug or mistake, or can just be accepted as part of map making. On the included save, where the dropship starts there is a rock that prevents the tank from leaving the dropship entirely. The rock can be destroyed by weapon fire, but not by having the tank run it over. Save link
  24. My roommate managed to get a mission where on the second turn, the alien runs into a dessert dune. Ending the turn on the included save should cause the alien to do it. Save link
  25. Ive noticed whenever Ive had plans flee in air combat as they approach the border their speed drops rapidly to the low hundreds, despite their speed controls not moving. Moving the speed control brings them back to normal speed.
