  1. This is quite the obvious overlook, so it is soldiers walking right through stun gas. We'll see if it gets tweaked, but some extra clicky here and there is not a big deal.
  2. One thing you need to do ASAP is build a dedicated fighter base near the first one, on the first base ditch all but 2 hangars, one will be for the transport, one for any plane you build there. Add living quarters as necessary, and also add an additional laboratory Have at least 4 workshops on the first base. You'll be building any plane really quick. This takes some time, but if you focus on what really matters, it's perfectly doable.
  3. It does sound terrible, but if repair times are cut off to something reasonable (lets pretend all that needs repairing is prefab armor plates, quick work) it will bring the meaning of dogfighting into the game, and make Corsairs with missiles and cannons something worth even thinking about, not just Mig and torpedoes. This is just a rough idea, but i think it could work with some brainstorming. And don't forget your fighters will only take damage IF 3 vs 3, solo UFO you can use a decoy and other kicking it from behind. I can see some good, fun and not too hard options here, really. Like if you go on a 3 vs 3 with a medium escorted by 2 fighters, you'd have to lure the fighters away from the slower medium to get a breather. 2 corsairs pulling the fighters, the free corsair being chased by the medium kills a fighter, then the now other free Corsair, still with weapons, will kill the second fighter. It sound about right with what really happens Then they fly off so the Mig can finish the job. The point is not to make it very complicated and hard, simply make it less of a no brainer. Right now, air combat is being tweaked by weapon damage and whatnot, but it's still very basic, potentially boring. If wave compositions are mixed and matched a bit more (not just 3 fighters, 2 fighters and a bomber or 3 fighters), we would have to think about how to do it and what to use to do it. Mind, when you get Marauders and Furys, the aliens don't stand a chance anymore, it becomes way too easy. The fury is meant to be the ultimate air superiority machine, and there couldn't be a better reward for persisting. The marauder, with fusion torpedoes, kills everything it shoots at while taking a nap. With this set up, the Corsair would not be obsolete right from the drawing board, lasting until a single unkillable fury replaces 3 of them.
  4. THIS got me thinking about how Corsairs could be made useful in the game. Rough ideas, but they might carry some meaning. Alien fighters will always dodge the heavier, slower torpedoes carried by Mig/Marauder. To counter that, the player has to use fighters. Now corsairs have a role, that will last till the fury jumps into service. Of course, decrease the repair times and cost for them things a lot. They will ALWAYS take damage in combat, on a 3 v 3 fight, be it 3 fighters, or 2 fighters and whetever else, and will make sense to research armor, speed and maneuverability upgrades for them once Interceptors come into play. There is room for something extra, without any major adjustments in research times Of course, Corsairs must have the means to defeat heavy fighters and interceptors in one fight, with proper weapons, and proper maneuvering, of course. No head-on fire missile-dodge-fire missile ratata boom strategy, the cannon should have enough ammo and a bit more to spare. We don't send people to war with 5 bullets on their hand anymore. This will sort of push towards the need of having dedicated fighter bases, which i think makes sense, once the economy has some more balance. I did have 3 fighter bases on vanilla 19v2, but at some sacrifice, and it was effective keeping the skies clean. Wattayu think?
  5. You can totally skip the corsair for now. There's nothing you cant do with it you can't do with a Mig. Also, the corsair will be totally obsolete when you get Marauders, but the Mig can still remain in service till the end. The alien fighter/Corsair/Mig relationship needs to be changed dramatically, if corsairs are to ever have a role.
  6. Using researched technology to speed up the ticker. We might argue that it may be used an exploit to build extra bases during the easy invasion phase, but it would take forever, at 30-35k a pop on scouts. As for powerleveling soldiers, if someone would be able to do A LOT more easy missions to do so, both options could remain opened, research or stall. Or Score. Sum the total score from crashes, terror sites and alien bases, and go from there. That would be the solution for a linear progression? And you could toss in more locally shot down small UFO, or crashable random small during after waves cooldown. That could encourage having more then one transport and more then one squad, or basically have some properly trained reserves (much needed towards mid-late game, when rookies are useless) while balancing the funds needed to have them equipped.
  7. Those are the ones we use to defend bug attacks, in sci-fi mode (lots of HP rounds and park them on top of the mine office building ), go around training militia or be the haulers/mechanics.. We both know what we're talking about tho, we REALLY have multiple options to do stuff. But i would not swap any of my main force for them MERC weirdos - main character, Magic, Scope, Ivan, Gus, Lynx, Scully, Static and Shadow, with Conrad being a very nice addition later on. These are the elite, of course with these, there is almost no need to use multiple squads, except for iron man of course. I can never skip Static and Magic, love their lines.
  8. Fury is end game material, you'll get it not long before you unlock the final mission. That early game fighter-only is just a phase, things catch up later on. Just have to muscle through it.
  9. Hopefully Lil'toth was back in base taking a nap? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know all about Pancaking. I even tell them soldiers to lose the helmets, darn things just get in the way of slugs. Better be quick then make it look like there's as much brain as empty space, if they don't die. I like heavy weapons. And getting up close and personal. What i don't like as much, is when the stupid soldiers try making aliens dance. We all know aliens don't dance. And they surely don't like pedicures either. Late 70's... still too many cowboy crap going on. Edit: Almost forgot. Terror mission. Send 2 scouts behind the bus across the road, and 3 snipers right on the edge. Next turn, park turns into a mess, count at least 5 aliens. All ready. Send one scout around the bus and up the fence a little further, one sebillian staring right at him. Clear shot from the snipers. First sniper, aimed shot, 50 TU 95%. Ninja alien, dodges bullet, and off it goes into the unknown. One scream of pain. 2 screams of pain. Second sniper. Aimed shot, 50 TU, 95%. Ninja alien, dodges bullet, and off it goes into the unknown. Scream of pain. Third sniper. Wait. Second scout, around the bus, up the fence, heavy burst. 2 hits. Finally. Third sniper. Aimed shot, 50 TU, 95%. No more ninja alien, direct hit, hiss of pain. Off it goes into the dark. Scream of pain. One sebillian down. 4 civilians killed by FF. Now i know why the aliens chose that city to terrorize. Civilians were too fat.
  10. Tired, Hiding in charred shadows. Broken glass... Steps, grunts coming closer Trap. So dark, Light the sun, throw, reflections 2 glowing orbs face away Run. Like hell. 5 slugs, one last breath, one less Deafening victory Need...to hide Sound. Charred shadows, movement Is that,...! Fuc.....
  11. UFO spawn. And it's pointing towards your base. Look at the triangle. Kill it. Then get the others. You can let it get close, and save on fuel.
  12. You probably know this by now, but the MERC moronic dudes are nice for hauling crap, training militias and repairing stuff, while the main dudes heal and sleep. But they will NEVER be any good on a fight. Also used them to contain bugs.
  13. !!!!!!! It absolutely is. And then you'll see the why of so many references to it Here is a thread started by StellarRat
  14. Just ignore everything. An alien ship will attack one of the bases, and the game will CTD. Save: 2013-07-01_15.44.53.sav
  15. That's why it was called"TERROR from the deep", right You hit the spot right here. This is exactly how it feels like.
  16. Can't save when it happens, but it's quite easy to recreate, with a little patience.
  17. Must feel like you're playing Dwarf humans VS Dwarf Aliens
  18. Terror missions in a desolate, flattened and radioactive area that used to be a city? Something needs fixing here This "nuke" the terror site looks terribly artificial, it's basically killing people. Not like any aliens would kill people there and stay around looting convenience stores. Instead, a failed/ignored terror mission could trigger a request for a cleanup operation, to eliminate any aliens from the area, in much greater numbers. The damage to the territories relations would have been done, tho, and further ignoring it would have a much more devastating effect on that territory's relations towards the organization. This COULD NOT be ignored, be it day or night.
  19. Seems like we will have to keep dreaming about it It's one thing that would really bring some life to all maps, they do seem... empty and naked sometimes. No forests, woods, swamps, mountains, it's not really about having sloped terrain, a lot more different props would do GREAT in map environment. Big trees, bigger boulders (not just the occasional rock conveniently placed there for cover), water, you mention it. They kinda go a bit too much towards EU2012 philosophy. Maps in JA2 were (are) great for having so many terrain features, and there aren't any slopes either. They could be a great inspiration to Xenonauts maps.
