  1. There should be alien flares. You know...like grenades but flares. I wasn't aware of this "armour specialization" thing. It's actually a great idea to use armour to set more specialized roles for soldiers. Scout Armour made from some special alien elastic material that allows for improved mobility (bonus TUs) and better night vision but doesn't offer as much protection (great for scouts and snipers) as opposed to an "Assault Suit" that offers great protection and a strength bonus meant for front line and heavy weapon troops. Equivalent quality armours with different roles is definitely better than armour mk1 -> armour mk2 -> mk3 -> etc. I'm aware that some of these things like str bonus for "power armour" are already in the pipeline. Just emphasizin'.
  2. I just wish it had been contained to the original thread dedicated to this discussion. No need to get so dramatic.
  3. We don't really know anything yet (won't 'till February) but as I said multiple times, that mag cover doesn't fill me with confidence. The soldier looks terribly generic and as for the Sectoid I always assumed they were intelligent humanoids, not animal-like creatures.
  4. This is pretty much a given in any situation. Selling on Steam has been the intention since long ago but I don't think the deal has been finalized yet (I assume this happens closer to release or during beta).
  5. Afaik all of the remakes to date have been attempted by either small studios or modders and various teams of enthusiasts. 2K is the first big name to tackle X-Com that I know of. Also I wouldn't go to 2K's forum to spam Xenonauts links (and especially not with a "this game is better" attitude), it would just look weak and desperate.
  6. There will be an anti-psi "something" but that's all we know for now.
  7. Not really. It's all about the release. The problem doesn't lie with the pre-orderers but with those who'll buy the game post release.
  8. They could just be horribly rushing it. That mag cover certainly looks like a last minute improvisation. But we'll see I suppose.
  9. Is it known how long it's been in development? I find it hard to believe it's been long in planning.
  10. It's going to be turn based with a real time "geoscape", just like the original. The word "action" is just there because....ya know? Marketing beats quality sadly. But it'll be fine I think.
  11. I meant in this forum. In any case, it's time to get the old jar lid and start closin'.
  12. Chin up Mr. England. Britain didn't fall to the Luftwaffe in 1940 and neither will Xenonauts to 2K's marketing machine. Something tells me they're not done embarrassing themselves in this whole "xcom" rage. Some changes in approach to development and/or marketing might still be required though.
  13. Hopefully Xenonauts won't have to wait 'till q3/4 2012 for a release. It should be fine if it can release a decent number of months before X-COM:EU (god I hate these title reshuffles).
  14. The Europe/Africa examples already fall into everyday Xenonaut activity. Clearing terror sites and intercepting UFOs are among the basic gameplay elements which already carry approval bonuses and penalties. The other two "quests" are more interesting requiring you to sacrifice workshop hours or exchange short term gain (sold power sources) for long term (better funding) but I don't know if they'd "sit" well with the game. I'm to tired to consider it properly atm.

  16. @OP Yes, I think this is, in fact, "it". It is certainly the best X-Com reimagining I've seen to date because of the intelligent decision to stay faithful to the original and improve only those aspects of the game that really need it (UI, air combat, weapon variety, etc.) without trying to be "clever" and over-innovating. If you haven't seen the actual game site already it's a good source of info to get you started: http://www.xenonauts.com/
  17. The problem is this smells of a little more than a publicity stunt to save face for 2K after the flak they've taken with XCOM and some of their statements (which appear hypocritical now). I'm afraid they'll make a half assed attempt and provide only minimum funding to Firaxis just enough to get some attention back and get back on peoples' good side to better carry XCOM's sales. On the other hand, perhaps past experience has shown them that there really is a viable market for a "true" X-Com game and are truly dedicated to this project. It's just that the timing of this and that lame magazine cover fill me with much doubt. In the end if Firaxis do a good job with whatever resources they are given I'm certainly not going to say no to another quality X-Com-like. They made an error in market analysis, simple as that. Time for damage control.
  18. A sly move by 2K. Why is that "sectoid" crouching like a dog in the headlights?
  19. For the same reason Sea Org members sign billion year long contracts.
  20. Oh sorry, haven't actually played any of the builds yet.
