keramikus
A thought: Killing alien drones could yield research topic for different thin, tactical armor plating. This plating could be salvaged from drones, maybe produced and in turn inserted into slotted armors of Soldiers and tanks. Weight could be considerable, thus making a soldier very encumbered, but tanks could benefit from it. Different plates, different resistances - kinetic / plasma / heat? If anyone already suggested it, then ignore this altogether.
Chris
It's a nice idea, but we've deliberately kept the vehicles quite simple. It'd be a lot of work to add a vehicle customisation system, which we'd need in order for this idea to work.
Gauddlike
It could be done in a mod though if you wanted to make different variants of the vehicles to be built. Bit outside the scope of the base game though.
Max_Caine
Both Gauddlike and I have done mods of vehicles in the past, it isn't that hard. Thinking about it, you could potentially use a vehicle as a component item in an engineering project for a new vehicle, so long as you didn't mind the old vehicle going bye-bye. Gauddlike
Well you would get a shiny new one to replace it with whatever new armour you had wanted to add. The problems really start if you want multiple modifications to the vehicles that can be used alongside each other. The modular weapon suggestion threads have plenty of examples of how out of hand things can get when multiple production jobs are required.
