Chris
Sorry, this is all kinda spread over multiple threads at this point. @Frans - yes, they should be fixed in V1.09, but they won't be fixed in V1.07. @Xenofighter - hmmm. You've tried the Xenonauts_errors.zip version too? I suspect what's happening is the size of the map is causing trouble with the integrated graphics on your Macbook. Basically, it may be trying to load too many textures for the graphics memory available. I suggest you download the unpacked tile pack here and replace the tiles directory in the game assets with it: http://www.xenonauts.com/devfiles/unpacked_tiles.zip To find the /assets/ directory in the Mac app, you need to Show Contents then I think there's a shortcut to drive_c inside it. The game is under /Program Files/Xenonauts/ I believe. Just delete the /tiles/ directory and replace it with the one in the zip...let me know if it helps. @XMAN - that's likely to be Mac related, as we've not got any reports of that on the Windows version. neotyrant
The standalone files have been updated so you can just download the Mac version from Desura again. This time it'll be V1.09. Thanks for the reply Chris, but their MAc version is also a .deb file. You can check it when you try to download it.
Chris
Is there an issue with it being a deb file? That deb file now contains V1.09.

xenofighter
Chris - Thank you for the help. The files did indeed work (which is great because I am playing normal ironman and my save had become so bogged down that it was simply crashing every time at the same particular moment on the alien's turn). Oddly, I had tried using Xenauts_errors.zip too. But that had not worked.
Yonderboy_secondaccount
@XMAN - that's likely to be Mac related, as we've not got any reports of that on the Windows version. Hey Chris, I get crashes in ground battle, quite frequently (every 5-10 minutes). Has made game unplayable for me. Chris
@neotyrant - you should do whatever you did with it last time. You can either just drag the file out onto your desktop and run it there, or you can drag it into Applications (there's a shortcut in the deb) and then it'll be installed or accessible there. @yonderboy - please try what I recommended to xenofighter, then. It may well be a tile atlas issue for you too. I'm going to integrate that into the next version of Xenonauts_errors.zip to make accessing it a bit easier. deghost
@Yonderboy Ew, that is one pesky bug with memory allocation/flush there. Could you please provide full application/crash logs? They should be available in "Console" application found in /Applications/Utilities/Console Look for "User Diagnostics Reports" under the Diagnostic and Usage Information, there should be crash log from the same time as the Xeno crashes. Also look under Files category for ~/Library/Logs, under which for X11. There should be specific log files for Xenonauts of this version run. Maverik234
So far so good with the latest build. Terror missions seem to crawl like crazy, must be a massive loss of frame rate. But all other missions looking good except base attacks on my bases... crashes every time. I'm in February and the only real crashes are from base assault. Any ideas anyone? P.S. also had the same problem with the previous build. I've never to have a base assault without crashing. P.P.S. just installed the errors zip, and it seems ok now. XMAN
Reproducible crash. While In ground combat using a soldier equipped machine gun or scatter laser. 1. Press CTRL to target terrain. Get the icon and colored trail. 2. While still holding CTRL click the burst icon (three bullets) on the weapon silhouette. I know that there isn't a single shot option for these guns but click it anyway. 3. Goes to black screen, followed by a crash to desktop. 4. Tried with scatter laser soldier and machine gun soldier 2 times, got a crash each time.
XMAN
V1.09 new crash. OS 10.9.4, Macbook Pro. Crash happens near the end of a long terror ground battle in Russia. This is about the 11th ground combat. A lot further in the game than I ever made it before. Crash occurs at least fifteen turns in while trying to find maybe the last alien. Already fired lots of rockets, blew up huge sections of the map, killed lots of aliens. Chucked grenades, stun gas, plasma and laser fire. Then it glitches and crashes just doing simple movement. First I started getting glitchy graphics, some random magnified tiles in the upper third of the screen, followed by a black screen and crash a few turns later, no error message. Chris
A few days ago I updated the Mac version on Steam. There's now a Xenonauts_comptability.zip, so try the game in there. Load times will be slower but hopefully the issue with the eventual crashes will be fixed.

XMAN
I downloaded the compatibility version from Steam, unzipped, and reloaded the last mission I couldn't finish because of crashes. Well, I was able to finish that mission just fine. It didn't seem any slower to me. But I think I have good specs and a SSD. Thanks for that work! I also noticed the game launcher defaults to 2880x1800 which is the resolution what my Mac uses behind the scenes to make the 1440x900 resolution seem sharper. Actually running Xenonauts in 2880x1800 does make a hi-res playfield, but tiny UI elements and some lag appears. It looks very sharp at 1400x900 but you can read everything at least and the lag goes away. I recommend Mac users choose the lower resolution. This isn't an issue on non-retina Macs in any event that aren't able to display such a high resolution. As Windows computers get 4k displays (kind of what a Mac "retina" display is) I guess all coding will have to deal with this kind of issue. From doing Java programming, the higher resolutions of the retina displays was a coding headache with respect to detecting HiDPI resolutions, providing sharp assets for those resolutions in addition to the normal DPI resolutions, and then applying them correctly. I wonder if this isn't an issue for you. Defaulting to such a high resolution is not what you want. Players using Macs with retina displays will have a better experience, I think, if the default resolution was lower.
Martian
Odd thing happens on occasion while playing in windowed mode; The game keeps going to the background, even when I am in the middle of moving soldiers about. It doesn't minimize, but the window greys out and I have to click on it again to keep playing. Not particularly troublesome, just irritating. And no, there are no other peripherals connected. Martian
And a second one: had an Interception sortie engage a bogey at the very same instant a dropship team arrived at a target LZ. Went into an Air-to-Air game, and was interrupted to have the dropship team engage on the ground. The Air-to-Air game was paused in the background and was showing up on the fog-of-war tiles. Rather odd.
XMAN
Another crash during a terror mission. Check the screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B27iADucwxbbMldkcGNNMGY3a3c/edit?usp=sharing This is a typical crash screen and message, but I know when it crashed at least. It occurred when the blue alien fired the light blue shot on his turn (not reaction fire), and the crash froze the shot in mid-air. I heard my Xenonaut scream over the crash screen. As usual, I've gotten further than this point, and reloaded. I've also blown things up, lost a Xeno, killed aliens and suddenly this. I'm sure I've been shot before without a crash! XMAN
Another crash. They are coming later and later. Save scumming doesn't slow it down, but relaunching the game seems able to give me enough time to finish. This happens a few turns before the crash, notice the portrait: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B27iADucwxbbZkJPcWFZZWF5LWM/edit?usp=sharing
XMAN
Now I have my first glitch, not a crash, in the base screen. I see this as a flash after about an hour of play. I got it to "stick" onscreen by going to the screen to hire engineers, then clicking the soldier tab. There was also a glitch prior to this where the soldier's body was invisible but I didn't take a picture of it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B27iADucwxbbMVJ1THhjdHFaVk0/edit?usp=sharing Otherwise I'm having a decent experience in ground combat. Chris
I'm not sure there's that much we can do about those crashes unfortunately. I think eventually the bad texture handling of the engine combined with WINE just fills up the texture memory on your computer and makes it crash after you've played for long enough - we can't fix the engine though. The compatibility version should be able to go longer before the crashes though.
Martian
Just crashed the game by firing a Plasma Cannon off the Scimitar. Did it three more times in a row and same effect every time. I have the game saved at the moment before firing, so if someone can just tell me where to find that save file on a Mac, I can copy it out and send it to a tester to see if it can be replicated. petercoxphoto
I'm really not happy to read this response. "Yeah, we put out the game for Mac on a shitty platform and you're stuck with it." Can you confirm that you're not going to be releasing any more fixes for Mac? If so, I'll be in touch about a refund. Peter
Rous
Crashes to desktop randomly during ground combat. I'll notice some graphical glitching then a crash to desktop occurs shortly after. Has happened 3 times so far, always in ground combat. Really want to play this game but this is a deal-breaker because I don't want to have to save every 5 minutes for fear of a crash.
