  1. Luring a dragon into fighting a giant and then picking them both off once they weaken is fun, though.
  2. Grumpysage, i feel your pain - my wife doesn't like having me on the PC instead of sitting on the sofa next to her. Responsibilities, eh? I'm a meek little level four, listening to my colleagues talking about having a last push over the weekend to roll up the remaining main quests.
  3. BTW, there's a thread for retro styled games on the board - you should add your post to the list: http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php?103-Other-awesome-retro-styled-games

Told you, he's a Malazan Sapper. The bigger the boom, the bigger the contented grin he'll be wearing
  5. Humans have been altered over the last few centuries as part of an experiment by an unknown race, aimed at making us into a self-sustaining, self-directing, space-capable & highly aggressive bio-weapon. Now that the rest of the races in our galactic neighborhood have found out they are scared enough by the experiment's results that they have decided they cannot allow us to remain uncontrolled. They either don't want to wipe us out as said manipulation was not our choice, or else they don't trust each of the other races to not keep a few specimens and start over, having seen our potential, so they will control us as a group to maintain the balance of power. ...or, y'know, they're just here to steal our cookies. Those bastiches.
  6. Nice - thank-you for informing folks, ie. me, about this! SC2 was one of the all time classics. Project: Nomad, Planet's Edge, SC2 - they ate waay to much of my childhood Out of old curiosity, did anyone else discover that you can trade the Mycon Deep Child shell fragments to the Druuge, instead of selling your crew into slavery? I never saw that mentioned in the guides.

(warning: black humor ahead.) A chill, unnoticed breath of air whispers down darkened corridors. Barely moving, more sensed than felt, it wends it's way through empty larders, under and around open doors into cells left bereft of occupants and forlorn of purpose. It stirs the aromatic smoke rising from greasy, flickering flames, and rises, riding the brief thermals as it swirls from the scene of bloody ennui writ small, in fur-clad grief. As it approaches a harsh white light, the environment begins to change, becoming fecund with energy and potential. It vibrates in time to a pulsing wave of pressure, deforming it's ethereal, ever-changing structure. The thump, thump, thump thrums with increasing intensity, molecules skittering ever faster in a mathematical dance of near-chaos, a Brownian waltz of sound-waves. Knives, forks, mugs & Specials hammer as one. Throats natural and otherwise scream and roar in near-mindless demanding, as beings who are a little less stable with every passing hour give voice to their desire to devour, quite literally, their foes. To rend and consume. Shivering undertones skitter through the roars, blood-warm, wet and pulsing, sinking unseen claws beneath the skin, flowing poison that alters the soul. Infecting all who hear with terror, loathing... and hunger. "Sir, this is the base cook! It's bad! We're out of everything - there's nothing left, no Chuck, no Grey, no breaded Mantis claws, nothing! All we've got is earth food, but the crew ...they, they're addicted, sir! They're going into withdrawal symptoms, THEY ARE LOSING IT! There's no TIME, sir - you have to give the order, now. Do the base run. We need those xenos, sir - dear sweet lord, I can't believe I'm saying this, but... we need the groceries!"
  8. Humans are considered an exploitable yet fragile natural resource, and are therefore harvested while avoiding disruption to our perceived natural habitat and designated breeding stocks where possible.
  9. Don't forget, your resources are limited after so many years of no-one knowing that Xenonauts even exists. While you've got your hands full with the main threat & biggest potential swag bag, the local governments will probably be quite happy to step in and 'help' by securing and disposing of any other crash sites & debris. (Although your host nations have agreed to give you authority, I doubt they are happy about all that advanced alien tech. not being under their direct control.) Depending on the size of the maps, it would be interesting to sometimes see wreckage or a crash site from one of the escort craft on the mission map. Edit: Or even a large ship broken into sections over separate areas on the map.. Ok, I'm drifting now

I'll give it a shot. I usually try to spend more time away from the inside of my head, though, on account of I disturb me --- Dix II: *randomly humming and muttering to himself as he strolls the corridors* ....tum-te-tum-tum, up in the air, gotta make some bay-bies, pow-pow-wait, movement. Hmm.. that's one of the new meat, sneaking out the logs room. Should be tucked up in bed at this time of day, suckling on a teat of Doc's Extra Creamy. Good stuff, that, even if we do lose a lot of med-techs milking the.. well, never mind, not important. He's taken the south corridor. Wonder if he knows the badgers are nesting down... no, guess not. Good set of lungs on him. Good set of teeth on that badger, too. We really need to keep up the conditioning on these new guys - I mean, he's putting up a good fight, but he's trying to escape. We don't try to escape, ever. Running is for the OTHER bastard. ...or the other badger, solid punch, that. Nice two-part bounce on opposite walls. He barely even whimpered as the skin tore off, nothing a few grafts can't fix. Medics can upgrade what's left of the nose, no worries. He's got a good swing on him - I wonder if I can interest him in some advanced training? Can always use another pistol-whipper/specials wielder. But we should punish him for breaking curfew first, just because. Maybe make him oil the Commander's room? All those chuck-skin carpets and bedsheets need a lot of oiling. Not to mention her wardrobe. That thing is massive. Has to be, for the power armour. The mantis-shell bath was a nice touch, true enough. Made our old Stuffer comrades green with envy. ...maybe I should chuck the newbie my pistol? Nah - this will ensure he doesn't leave his quarters unarmed in future. Really, I'm surprised he did this time. You never know what the boss is going to release into the corridors next. Besides, he's beaten his way past the last of the badgers, and he's got the beginnings of a nicely homicidal glint in the eyes. This rook might just measure up, after all. If he lives - he's bleeding a lot. I mean, a lot. I thought all the newbies went through the basic enhancement program these days? Anyway, he's still mobile, so it can't be too bad. *Strolls along behind the unfortunate sergeant, watching in interest* He's going for the infirmary. Still whimpering, but understandable, really, given that last badger. Persistent thing. Maybe if we offer it a bug-eye to play with, it'll leave him alone - wait, no, it's fallen off. Still got his calf, though. Wonder how he's managing to walk straight, with his eyes crossed like that? Silly bugger - he's taking the direct route. I guess no-ones warned him about the weasel colony in the overhead ducting. Ah, well - I'll give him a hand. I'll deny it was out of anything other than a desire to finish my weasel-skin bathrobe, but he is a fellow Cobra, after all. The screaming chant of die die aieee is quite touching. ...Huh. Looks like the weasels wanted a Full English for breakfast.

They are infringing on our hard-won, yet fragile, identities. Chucks must die! (Yep, another base run. Can I get a bayonet for my pistol?)

Dix II: Like we practiced Alien Prisoners: *whimper* Everyone: NUKE?! bwahahaha! This just keeps getting better. I should be disturbed about turning so psychotic, but I'm having far too much fun reading this to care!
  15. If anyone else has read the Malazan book of the fallen series, then you might agree - I'm thinking that sathra's an escaped Malazan Sapper. It fits all the observed tendencies.
  16. Congrats to Sathra. I've feared him for a while now, ever since he revealed to me the existence of Nearly Naked Animals, and named it awesome.

Given that he would potentially be recruited only to serve as chryssalid-bait on his first time out, I guess I can't really argue the abuse part.
