  1. Cheer #26 now if i'd just get enough free time to play and get murdered by aliens instead of just having fun reading stuff on forum.
  2. What? wasn't it age old strategy of Xcom to send troops out one after another through the doorway to get shot in the head. Sooner or later the alien would have empty clip...
  3. i think someone said in youtube that it depends on game version. the TFTD on Steam has that, normal game had the "long way around" route. not sure myself though. it's just what i've heard.
  4. yep, was quite... interesting. think outside the box.

    X-Com EU LP

wow.. that was.... epic. Truth be told though.. about half of that epic was due to forum posters "playing" the people. I can appreciate walls of text if they are pretty walls of text.
  6. well... for me they were Terror from the Deep (because it was first xcom game i played...) and apocalypse. i also played interceptor but.. bleh. it wasn't all that xcom-ish if you ask me. Wing commander propechy had better aliens than this one. Xcom after_blank's i played... i think two of them. meh. both were basically same graphics, same engine... and after initial "this is new" feeling... it just didn't work out too well for me. EU (2012) was.. okay on first playthrough. it had some "good" points like class/specialization system but.. some of them didn't quite work. (snipers, either over powered or useless) and cover mechanics (if it had worked.... it didn't and still doesn't) and in a way, simplified two step movement (except it's current setup makes overwatch strategy largely overpowered and it still uses TU's since amount you can run on each two step's is affected by lot of things) i also played original ufo defence but.. after TFTD... it felt pretty much same. (not a bad game but lets face it.. those two share a LOT of things)
  7. to summarize the Fermi paradox, "they are in your yard, going through your trashcan contents like archeologists" and their disguise?`it's too good to be noticed...
  8. Interesting thoughts and i admit, in most cases probably correct. However... as far as skyrim goes, i beg to differ. we can say that specs are high or low. however the difference between limiting FPS and not limiting it is.. drastic. namely, limiting it raises "bottom" of FPS scale by a lot and doesn't really lower top side all that much. however i think biggest change in all logic and such is that for some reason it removes "water everywhere" bug where every second or third frame is "underwater" this is NOT just display error, it is accomppanied by swimming animations, sounds and all. so for some weird reason, game thinks whole world is underwater. recalculating all npc behavior and pathways and such takes big oomph out of processor (no duh) and *this* drops the average FPS by a lot (namely to 0 to 5 range) while not limiting FPS at all when you are moving yourself. stay stationary and game works almost same with or without FPS limiting so whole thing is somehow tied to your own movement. and no, i'd discount any and all mods from the equation based on fact that the difference is so drastic with/without FPS limiting.
  9. I have to agree with that. so.. based on the seen stuff, we don't know if this goes before, after or in what part of game timeline compared to original. is it after defeat of head alien who speaks of some mysterious enemy/danger before final fight and end cinematics or... before? lets face some facts though, this is purely assumption making it... something that should be avoided. - war continues at great cost... hints that war stopped at some point. putting this after the "vanilla" game. - great cost? what was destroyed, killed, mutilated, abducted or stolen, besides throat pastilles? - Lets assume Xcom, as organization whose goal is to keep UFO's (yep, stuff from outer space) from reaching earth and/or shooting at stuff... they have some radar capability. (no way... cannot be) as such they just might see something before "vastly mysterious shadow figure coughs something up (after swallowing last throat pastilles) - okay... so.. nothing on radar... stealth technology and all that i'm sure... - none of the countries funding Xcom have any phone lines connected, as a way to inform them that "hey.. they are raiding our throat pastille stockpiles" - none of the countries news organizations have any clue what is going on and wont post any news? the year is not supposed to be 1994 but 2015, internet isn't invented apparently and no one has heard, seen or posted anything or... xcom equipment is so outdated that they are unable to follow well... common news in the net? yep.. pretty weird.. Xcom sees and hears nothing besides what the men with sore throats tell them. so.. as to this... signal lost thing. one cause.. probably.. jamming. assuming xcom has at all prepared to any extent, their end should be.. well.. protected to some extent and currently... fiber obtics are good for anything remotely stationary (like.. i'd think huge underground base would be?) now.. good side about it is.. it resists almost all kinds of jamming. so cable is not it. base itself? umm.. military grade? not shielded? so base is jammed with strawberries? i think that'd be unlikely. the home of sore throats themselves? quite possible. although... since the transmission goes on with nothing indicating they noticed it... (their end being EMP'ed or something) it makes me think that whole thing was pre-recorded and just played out either by someone or by some weird automatic "we are under attack, send help, naow!!" thingy which didn't know a thing. yep.. trailer manages to say little besides to point out that whole setup has lot of big plot holes. as for Comissar pancakes idea of going rouge... i'd prefer blue myself. but future will tell where it goes..... yesterdays happenings, told today style.
  10. well, seemingly after looking both forums had quite few posts where symptoms sound like mine. none of the posts mentioned limiting FPS as a magical rainbows and ponies fix but.. ah well. just to state.. I don't have problems anymore... i was just wondering if anyone else had similar problems before or understood why skyrim would run lot faster with limited FPS. (i blame consoles...)
  11. well.. topic says it shortly. Long version needs some more information. like: resolution 1900x1200 all settings maxed out (everything as far as games own things allow) looking at the game.. it seems.. odd. odd as in quite lot of times, there is "water everywhere" effect, namely that no matter where you go, it sounds like you are jumping in puddles. also monsters tend to glitch up/down nauseatingly. FPS count (as claimed by fraps) is 15 to 40. with total hang whenever more than 3 npc's are in sight.(outside cities) does resolution and detail amount affect either of those? display/sound bugs no. GPU usage is around 50% CPU usage is 45 to 50% at most. add in msi afterburner. set FPS limit to 59 (one below screens refresh rate) check again. no "water everywhere bug" no glitching monsters... FPS count is topped out 95% of time with few dips down to 20's IF there are like 25 to 30 npc's beating each other (warzones mod) GPU usage is at 80 to 95% CPU usage is in 50 to 70% don't get me wrong.. i'm happy that it runs 300% better now i'm just not sure HOW limiting maximum FPS amounts to vanishing glitches and HUGE performance boost.
  12. well.. that was nice. 30 odd episodes at 20 to 30 mins each. And it was... enjoyable. The idle chatter kept it somehow interesting almost all the time. but man... i wont play on superhuman myself. line of sight seems to result in death pretty often.
  13. well, read through the thread. A lot of things there, a lot I can agree with. I'd put main reasons as to why Xcom:eu is bad down to: tiny strategic maps. so tiny that on larger ufo's you practically land 1m from it. due to size, randomizing in them isn't great. (different maps, handful of them but thats about it) the "run to cover as soon as seen" feature? ewww... sure it does resemble what the aliens have in xcom apoc a bit except.. it isn't reactions.. nope. it's "one full move turn" geoscape is downscaled to.. consoles. if everything wasn't push button to act like two bases, which one.. what to do.. consoles would implode.. probably. or game makers think so.. so.. all that is out. contrary to belief of many here. (yes, reasons are personal) i don't see new tactical movement thing as utterly bad. more simple, yes but at same time.. it kind of works. (cover system really doesn't and overwatch=OP) i'm not totally against troops being specialized towards certain things and limiting inventory space. yes.. i like having medkits on everyone in older xcoms since.. well.. back then people could die easier and might not be next to another who could heal them. but well.. besides the specialized perks being a lot of "almost must have this" choices and sniper being bit of an oddity (until they get squadsight and/or damn good ground then they become bit OP if they have high place to stick to) classes seem okay. and yes... it was awesome game until played through once (each map, ufo and such). second time? way way too similar and linear. if you refuse to research something "critical" you might get "one or two" ufo's or terror missions in a month since plot doesn't advance but past that it's all one line track. and the ending? hint much about possible xcom:eu2? the things that monologuing head alien says are dead give away.

  15. Yep, new here. Not sure how that pre-order status on forum is checked since link on xenonauts pointed to desura... which is different from here. in any case it doesn't matter much since.. well.. i'm pretty sure it will all sort itself out before game launches. (and i can download it from desura now) Brief history... First impression of Xcom i got was from TFTD.. long long ago. I played it quite a lot. then later I tested orginal XCom, pretty much same but with few slight errors present. years went by... and i got Xcom Apocalypse. (seems quite few see it either as good or bad thing) which i also liked. good points on it were more levels in maps. (yum) RTS side (with pause to give commands easier, turn based didn't feel fun) city map (lot of idle action going on) some tech progress in first month or two (new items in market, like marsec flight armor.. my favourite, call me cheesy ) despite own research progress. and.. yep, due to more factions, things felt better. then.. okay.. i had heard of Xenonauts before this Xcom:EU flop that is the new xcom. i say flop because... yeah, i count it as one. maps? WAY WAY too small. amount of troops/aliens meh... i like it bigger. explosion size of grenades? what are they? kids fire crackers? line of fire. cover? there is no cover there!! (and other way around) inability to destroy surroundings on purpose with anything besides grenade/rocket. missed shots miss, they absolutely cannot hit any other target (well, they can destroy enviroment if they miss aliens) only one skyranger only one interceptor at one ufo at once. (even TFTD allowed you to send more than one at one UFO and FIGHT it at same time.) only one base. alien "difficulty" progression stops if you do not research certain things (like that crystal thingy, meaning no commanders and mind powers... and so on..) etc.. etc... "good" thing i see that i like is class based thing meaning that soldiers specialize a bit more. they are not all similar. combat system, is it better or worse? i'm not.... sure. between TU's, real time (with speed converted from TU's) and this two step thing.. it's... tough choice. for some parts, its good. some... not. it effectively makes snipers without squadsight near cripples. and in some cases provides quite big adventages. in others... disadvantages. well.. that was the past.. why did i decide to throw money at this? while it wont have all i've liked, it likely cannot be worse than this new Xcom. (graphics will not be as good but... it's not everything. it has a good chance to beat it gameplay wise.) and if this flops? well.. my life wont end over measly 21.99€ or.. whatever that premium pack cost. I've rambled on for long enough.
