  1. Just don t put them near the chopper and problem solved. OTOH, since chopper IS slow to land, they could have time to regroup and acquire defensive position and/or cover instead of keeping shot dancing civie, i know its more funnyer but... Tgis at least in higher dificulty like Insane.
  2. Well i haven t seen them yet. Not in security expo, not in military expo, not on service in my country. but if you live in USA your probably see a LOT more equipment than i see here. Ballistic shields used here are basicly what we see in xenonauts, square, black with a ballistic window, some with pistol rest some not, all trying to give bearer max protection, some situation awareness and ease of use. Non ballistic riot shield don t enter this discussion, in that field yeah things got wild, i dont know why but local police here prefer to use ballistic shield agaisnt riots...i guess risk mitigation is still higher than ease of use and versatility around here
  3. I m on hotfix version. (the game, not my brain.) Something bother me a little about the AI, beyond their flee until cornered if ennemy superior in number. Its the fact Alien don t seem to have a threat hierarquy sistem. You get there kill one of them and they prefer to keep priorizing taking pot shot at civies than you, this give you sometimes a round of advantage for each alien you encounter, even on Insane. Same as unarmed civie and security force, they don t seem to give priority to security forces even if shot by them, they ll keep shooting at a civie if he s alive. Logic would dictate that you give priority to threats then you go to the pleasure party, i think. I would like to see aliens giving priority to shooting me, that is a real threat to them (especially after killing one of them), than to make civies shot dance... I know AI is on the WIP side.
  4. Exactly... There could even have 2 kind of shield. One weaker allowing one arm bearing and shooting with the other, leaving the bearer quite more exposed during movement, shooting and even kneeling, anyone can use, give penalty to one handed shooting device but no penalty to stun baton. One heavyer, more resistant, 2 handed not allowing anything but carying it, with more TU penalties, minimum strenght to operate lets say 58. This could bring a new tactical decision into factor and since the system is 90% there i would say, would cost much investment, maybe a slight recolloring to black to grey/steel to diferenciate the shields. /
  5. Yeah they will probably hide under the 20 year ago the game had not such.... But i find weak that you land your chopper blind not knowing what s around, what are the windows and cockpit glass and open ramp for then ?
  6. The same monologue happens when soldiers are switched and you have to verify if their sortie order is ok. Since you already see the soldier and his weaponry, you don t need such a big image to arrange the soldiers. There s a lot of info that take too much place or aren t usefull on the armement screen anyway.
  7. on 10920 X 1080 the cliecking on the drop down menu is a bit hazardous there s a missalignement on the Y axis.
  8. By stun grenades you mean gas nades ? Flashbang are labeled as stun nades... And yes you need 3 to 4 gas nades to stun them the same round OR 2 nades and you wait some rounds as the alien take stun damage every round he s on a gas tile. Like throw, retreat, observe. Most of aliens don t have the reflexes of fleeing the stun gas (at least didn t) so they end fainting.
  9. Intentional ??? Can someone put some racional on this. I just suffered this bug...and its a bit WTF... We ve refueling on the ground, don t smoke, don t move , don t sneeze, don t go to the bathroom!!! For 5 hours , our refuelling time...
  10. Even on the secondary slot. This problem is there since shield are a come back (and maybe even before that) Also, the round after the shield is vaporizes by alien weapon, shield bearer still get the encumberance penalties even if they don t show up.
  11. Right now the ufos seems a bit like religious schools. you have girl or boys but not both in aliens ships. I don t think Sibillians eating greys or whatever mix would be problematic lorewise, they are all mind controled. It would add flavor and surprises. Well as long each race got diferent AI maybe.
  12. Trash man... I ve lost count of how many time i asked something similar. This and to incorporate the placement of soldiers in the transport on the same page as armament. Right now, as you say, its clunky at best.
  13. There s no question there xenonauts shields are rectangular. But thats not your point. The shields used today are exactly the same since the 60s material may have changes, training too. But someone nearly enought trained is able to move without any part of his body being exposed. And this since ROME was an empire. The diference is the fact that ROMAN shield didn t have a ballistic glass so the wielder could see whats happening in front of him.
  14. Basicly this is why i dislike xenonauts being NATO sort of filial. URSS in some areas was superior and night vision solution was one of them see the famous SVD DRAGUNOV and its IR/iluminated reticle scope. It wasn t near what it is today, but it worked IR as a bubble that couldbe shot. OK you may shot a CIVIE in the proces but whatever. Now as for completing Night missions. I just don t, they bring nothing, they aren t necessary at all, terror site or not. You already have base invasion for such. For a medal that give courage? Allmedal give that, so thank you very much, i ll keep my troops ass at mac Donalds bench eating fries, those maybe the very last of my soldiers life.
  15. I wonder if people have ever seen a tactical shield in their life, the kind the xenonauts use, or should use. Those aren t medieval round shields people. Those are full body shields, they cover 90% of the operator body when moving, 100% even when shooting on more modern shield, 98% on non prepared (old shields) to shoot. I ve been enought near them and see them used up close recently. The guy behind get the same protection, maybe a little less shooting because part of his head pop up, lets say 90%, assuming both are trained. Resuming the affair: 1) Kneeled soldier with shield should get 100% protection from direct front and laterally adjacent tiles period (and number of adjacent tiles should grow over distance). This unless shield operator is able to lick the alien. 2) ONLY reaction fire could be an exeption, if shield operator is moving or shooting at the alien. Right now i m a bit miffed because: Actually i m on the hotfix build and i ve hit a 8 hit VS 1 blocked shot with the shield, all straight front shot from alien pistols. I am really wondering if this build has something inverted, like shield protecting only 20% of the time. This rate is simply too hight for the 80% of blocking to be working. I m not even counting the slighly lateral shots, they were few 3 at all but hit 100% of the time.
  16. I agree on ammo at least for laser weaponry, clip size is too tiny, you end up spending more time recharging than shooting. Althought Chinnook refill could be an alternative for terror mission. Each time i invade a medium to large bases i end up, as in terror site, having to use Alien material. One thing that could be simple (or not) and fun (or not) would be an arsenal robot. A simple dumb robot RC controled (ingame contoled like a soldier)which just carry ammo and/or weapons and/or material (medipack). This robot could be destructible, which the penalty of loosing part, or all ut s carrying, and could use some soldier TU to be activated. The soldier in question must have in hand (or not) an objet called remote control. There s space in that chinook left empty. Just a wild idea...
  17. I always to this date went back to base then fly to another missions. So refilling should be automatic.
  18. Chris, one soldier just died with a pistol planted in his inventory and it appeared on the ground. So this "vanishment" is only happening when a soldier wield the pistol. Version Stable Hotfix. LVL: Insane
  19. Any room got squished, i wonder how my soldiers will sleep on those rotated squished beds.... I never knew until this thread things could be rotated.
  20. Equiped, Umm ill have to check if this happen in the backpack. The way my shield bearers dies it will be a quick matter
