  1. Gazz, you've described a pretty complicated system, but it covers a lot, except of some points: Calculating chance of hitting. That's more to Chris than to you. Why we should even show hit percent to the player? I'm sure everything you should get is "no line of fire" message, because sometimes isometrics can mess with our eyes. Read: soldiers can report if there is a wall, but they can't exactly know what is the percent of hitting that little window. Big question is how your system will track the bullet through different z-levels. The bullet may fly higher (though they only descent now). 2. Cover and density. This will lead to a silly situations. You are standing right in front of the alien, separated only by some low-height (say, 10%) wooden box from him, your gun practically looking in his xeno face. And suddenly you have 10% chance that your bullet will drop down and hit that box. That will be the issue i've talked about earlier. This will result bullets flying through the wall corners, even if the wall have 100% density. 3. Affordability Your system surely complicate things, and every complication brings out more border cases for which you're gonna need even more complications. It should be stopped somewhere, and i'm afraid Chris already decided where it should stop long time ago. Don't get me wrong, i will be happy if something like this would function, since i cant think of something more simple.

  3. Well, jokes aside, i've got the game worth waiting for. Why'd bother for DLC for another franchise? Do i care? Not much. It's just a little pain. Like watching the corpse of your best friend being teared apart by the dog zombies while your truck leaving the place. Going far away.

  8. Secondary directions are used in turning, else it would be even more choppy. Yes, sprites are rendered from 3D, but it's not as easy as it looks. This question was discussed many times, and if i remember right, you can even find the whole content processing line from 3d to sprites around here somewhere. There are 18000 png files for xenonauts and each contains from 1 to 80 frames. And these are rendered first in big size (17.90 contained some unreduced files, dont' know about 17.91 though). To use 12 angles, you need to render additional 18000 files, and remove existing NE, NW,... because of uniformity. This would greatly delay the release. As far as i know, devs are still rendering what's planned, and don't have a window for such task.
  9. English language use them for the same purproses. And though i've encountered a lot of bugs and crashes trying to read some sentences, no one was able to hack my brain yet. Jokes aside, your fears not to be confirmed. Script is the set of commands, and this font will be used for data entries. Read more about this if you're interested. The only crash that is possible here is when the font does not contain a corresponding symbol. Which Chris is trying to fix. Bottomline is that i can add special characters (and even cyrillics, given time). But one problem persists: converting from good old ttf to the Playground proprietary format. The only group of people i know of owning tool we need are some russian casual game translators, and they've yet to answer my e-mails. Depending on the consequences, i'll either get the hold of swf2mvec or will have to write my own tool.
  10. Depends on the situation, but almost certainly it can be done. Let me look at the font file please (ttf one).
  11. a_beorning pretty much nailed the circumstances. Be it more peaceful times, you can expect some kind of underlying network for communications and transporting, supported by all members of the xenonauts' pact. The one which helps moving crashed ufos whole and their parts, covering collateral damage, evacuating troops and refueling crafts. But the cold war era.. You could safely say that crafts and people will just dissapear in the labs and prisons of corresponding country, due to the vague agreements, nervousness and politicians greed. Though crafts can be rebuilded, losing people is far worse. So, if there is a way to return at least some of them to the other bases, it would be great.

  13. i've tried to capture some action today, but wasn't able to make a good quality video. I'll google a bit and will try one more time with different software and more appropriate codecs.

  15. Facts: - Converter makes bugged fonts, writing same info for several cyrillic characters and sometimes symbols, making them look like the same. If you'd want to use it for adding special symbols - check the font after the import. - Correct information is missing completely, and therefore file can't be patched. - The only tool left that allows for relialbe font conversion is swf2mvec. It works through ttf -> swf -> mvec sequence, but it works. - I've yet to find it. It should be in /bin folder of the playground SDK, but i can't still find the installer. - ttf and mvec file specs are available, so if there is no choice left, converter can be rewritten from the scratch.
  16. It's not very good. It's very not good. Very good is it not. With this system in place there always will be a spread in +- 1 tile scale, isn't it?
  17. My worst fears are confirmed, and it looks like the tool is bugged. Basically, MVEC font consists of glyph table and array of vector drawing commands for each of the glyphs. I wrote a quick and dirty parser according to the file format specifications: [ATTACH=CONFIG]1956[/ATTACH] As you can see, different glyphs obtain same set of the vector commands, so different symbols look like the same in-game. I would be grateful if somebody can confirm or disprove this with the cyrillic sets.
  18. That's correct. Thanks for the calculations. Shotgun is not practical and should be tuned, but should it be done via range? Shotgun's real value usually lies in it's stopping power and the buckshot ability, and these are countered by the low armor penetration. But neither stopping power nor buckshot are to be realised in the xenonauts, and the armor system aren't that complicated. I don't want it to be a pure cosmetic or roleplaying weapon. Maybe damage should be boosted instead, to allow for reliable one-shot killing from extremely close range?

  20. But isnt that's rifles and sniper rifle are for? I'm afraid that enhancing range of the shotgun would made it interfere with the rifle sphere of application. Besides, every mission in early game contains an important part of ufo (and, in the future, buildings) breaching, which is, i believe, a best place to apply your shotgun barrel forward. May be you can imagine some situations in which the long-shooting shotgun will not compete with the rifle? Assuming you've got a more or less balanced squad on the field, not a single Rambo.

  22. Glad to help. Personally i have nothing against the english interface, but there are many people i know who would really appreciate cyrillic support.   24. It works. Kind of. Hiccups and freezes on the letter "ё", which is not that important. Glyph doubling is far worse, especially if this is because of tool error and not a font glitch. Gonna perform some autopsy on the mvec file, since i've got my hands on the format specifications.
