Definitely retro, it's based on an adventure gamebook from the 80's. You do need an IOS device to play.
Strange because you will have a hard-time figuring out whether this is a RPG video game, interactive fiction, or choose-your-own-adventure. I think it breaks new ground by occupying some strange space in the middle. I had a really great time with the first one, and even played it all the way through 4 times, just to explore the different possibilities. The writing is great, the balance/game play is excellent, the music and visuals are immersive... it is kind of a little known gem, in my opinion.
Keep an eye on the creators, Inckle and Jon Ingold, I think they're going to make incredible things...
