  1. I just saw a cardboard box moving across a big firefight, with a Ceasan with a eyepatch and all. Glorious!
  2. Indeed, quite the beacon for the lost and misguided. Follow the light, and at the foot ye shalt find a warm fire and friendly faces.
  3. thothkins, you do know how to make a 'coon fall of his chair laughing. And pray they're not in your Xenonauts crew... On the whole, some kind of pointer that your guy caught a plasma bolt up his nostrils would be nice. Just now I had a guy getting shot dead by an alien I couldn't see, wasn't until I tried to select him I saw he was dead. I generally don't get which soldier belongs to which tab without mousing over it, so unless I see the trooper die I have a hard time figuring out if it was Pvt. Redshirt or Cpt. Oneshot-from-everywhere (actually, his name is Sasha Smirnov, but hey).
  4. I would hope not. Although the expression "the coals are banked" confuses me. Did Gauddlike deposit them in a bank safe?
  5. I still can't wrap my head around the reasoning of smaller squads but more lethal combat than the original... Not that it stopped me, made my pre-order today, so either I shot myself in the foot (with a nail gun. Three times) or I did a good deal. Time will tell, but it sure looks promising. Multiplayer... Meh, never bothered with it much. So long as it doesn't take focus of the singleplayer I'm good though. Unlike ME3, where getting that "hidden scene" requires you raise the preparedness rating.
  6. Some things seem to carry across armed forces well enough. I got the Army ranks pinned down pretty good, but when it comes to the Swedish Navy I'm lost. I don't think they share a single rank with us army dudes. Then again, when you're a private just about everyone is "Sir" or "Ma'am" with a snappy salute anyway.
  7. Not everyone is gauddlike, I'm afraid. Us mortals are slow sometimes, it's not our fault. And am I sensing a slight drop in temperature, here? We really ought to fan these flames a bit.
  8. Buddhist Civilians... That one has really snowballed... In all seriousness though, welcome to the forums, and looking forward to see your work in action! From what's written here and on the journal, it looks very promising indeed!
  9. So we went from Buddhist civilians to chocolate terrorism, all while staying on topic? My, that does indeed deserve some kind of award, or something equally grandiose. I bet ya a lot of other forums are frying with envy at this masterpiece we've got going here.
  10. I could tell you that, and I'm not even in the US Military. I mean, it's probably piece-a-cake once you've learned it. In Sweden we only have two ranks of different levels, so to speak. Those being Private (1st through 4th Class) and corporal (Vice Corporal and Corporal), so when you yanks go on about all your sergeants it gets me kinda confused, I must admit.
  11. I just realised something here... Once the flamethrower is issued, I'll be staying as far away from thothkins as possible. I admit, I can't take the heat...
  12. Had some of the funniest moments in MtA (two characters high-tail it out of a building in over 100km/h on foot after the third character almost bought the farm, was hilarious at the time). On what Guaddlike said, there are good and friendly players, but the immature are the most vocal, somehow always feeling the need to crack down on whoever isn't as skilled as they are, or just throw insults around. Met a few nice people in MMOs, one that stands out was the very nice guy in WWII Online who took me under his wing and taught me all about the game. But alas these kind souls are overshadowed by the vocal jack-offs, and there's the number crunching, which all of my friends do (if you've ever heard of the WoW guild Grimbo, that's most of my RL friends there. Apparently a somewhat well-known guild on Stormreaver). I'm not making much sense to myself here, but it's friday, I'm tired to hell and have a cold one in the fridge. Excuse my absence.
  13. I was most certainly not expecting that... And I almost swallowed my snus with laughter...
  14. Seesh, I'm better than that. Besides, me and the garbage truckers have a good deal, thanks to the G3 meeting (Gotta Get Gorlom)...
  15. Of course, while knifing the third alien and shooting a fourth. They wanna genocide us, we'll genocide them right back!
  16. Ya know, the trash isn't that bad, really. No one really goes there unless they have to, so I get left pretty much in peace. Always some bits to scavenge and cook up as well, the smell is really the only bad thing I can think of.
  17. Ah, White Wolf, did a few of their games, currently doing a Mage The Awakening campaign. Most people nowdays play video games where I come from, even women (video games is mainly a man-thing over here), but my town only has a handful of wargamers and RPGers (me being one of them). But yea, it's a sociable thing. Actually winning never really is a concern to me, and PnP RPGs can deliver what most video RPGs can't, that being that there are no invisible boundaries about. On the other hand, I rarely to never play MMOs for any extended period of time. Either the immaturity of the other players puts me off, the game simply doesn't interest me, or the neverending stats-hammering. I'm a role-player, not a goddamn maths PhD. I can appreciate number crunching in moderation, but I'm much more interested in story, characters and fluff. Working out how to maximize damage to the very limit isn't my thing.
  18. Now there's one reason not to sleep in. First line on page one of the Xenonaut handbook: "Have at least three different alarm clocks set in the morning." I'd make a terrible, terrible, terrible Xenonaut. If I don't sleep in I'm basically sleep walking the first hours of work/school.
  19. It's not a bad idea, and would make nations looks less like all-or-nothing wackos. On the other hand, it's supposed to be all-or-nothing, do or die, kill or be killed, and so forth. The nuking of a city under attack really does bring that point home, and if one reads the Iceland Incident fluff on the page, it's clear conventional forces struggle to defeat the aliens. Not to mention it would leave the nations hesitant to try again. We had to nuke the damn craft to bring it down, and it still didn't die, after all. On that note, is there anything left of Iceland? At all?
  20. The only possible motto I can think of would be the one in my sig. When faced with danger, when beset by doubt; run in circles, wave your arms and shout Originally from a Gaunt's Ghosts book, I think.
  21. As the title suggests. It goes without saying that most here are gamers of some sort, some of us (at least me) are primarily console gamers, others (like Ace, no offense) are die-hard PC gamers. We all play digital games, so to speak. Now, what I was pondering, is there anyone on these forums who plays non-digital games? Mainly pen 'n papper RPGs or tabletop wargames, or why not trading card games? I myself do play a lot of PnP RPGs and a few tabletop wargames (Warhammer, Flames of War, Necromunda and looking at starting Malifaux). The reason I ask is because I can't help but notice (at least get the impression) that they seem to be somewhat exclusive to each other. Video games is an accepted form of entertainment, while roleplayers and wargamers still somewhat struggle with the stereotype of unwashed people in a basement playing out less than child-friendly fantasies, or being grown people playing with toy soldiers. I dunno, could just be my interpretation of the whole thing, but where I come live video games are accepted, RPGs and wargames less so. Wall of text, sorry. Anyway, feel free to share your opinions on this, or if you indeed pursue a similar hobby. TL;DR - Do you play any other games than video games, or do you think video games are more socially acceptable than wargames and RPGs? Also, first thread I've started on this forum, I think. Yikes!
  22. Much obliged, kind sir or lady! If some government officials in dark suits and shades come looking for me, I was never here. You know, just in case. One can never to be sure, after all.
  23. If it isn't on ebay, it doesn't exist, or what did that old lady librarian say now again? Say, Gauddlike, you wouldn't mind letting me borrow your pc for a minute, would you?
  24. Ah, that one obscure (to me at least) title. Bummer for me, I suppose. I still think the TW formula, if not the engine, could work very well in a modern-ish game. But Roman legions will have to do, as Samurai and knights have done before them. On that note, I never really liked Empire overly, but I hear they did a much better job of it in FotS.
  25. This thing spreads like wildfire, it does. I wonder if there is anyone not touched by the flame yet?
