  1. It could be a bug in alien damage as I have had F17 and MIG one shot'ed before. Though MIG is more common, normally happens against scouts.
  2. Limited supply of beer. All beer has been channeled to the Xenonaust and technicians require beer to fully activate. Scientists are even more demanding and only work well when fueled by Absinthe
  3. Game plays out, the 1st one took nukes, was a massive mother.. of mother ships that needed real power to bring down. However, they are still messing up in the atmosphere so are sending smaller ships, which are like rock to our paper. Now taking on endgame ship with sidewinders is gonna be a no no, however at that point we will have invented quantum torpedoes and piloting the XNC-(Xenonaut Craft) The Delta Kicker
  4. Well from what Chris has said, tile sets are labor intensive. To get them in game requires A: money and B: Time and his team dont have enough of either to do it. So figure out a way of doing these might help
  5. 99% of players will not install player created content. Also Chris has been making the maps in his spare time. Now I see 3 things potenitially coming out of this. 1) Someone comes in and creates a massive range of various levels using the now 6 tilesets, making vanilla awesome. 2) Chris no longer has to worry about when he will have time to make the maps. delegation 3) The inclusion of a dedicated level designer with experience might bring about a streamlining of the map creation tools.
  6. It might change with the UI art, it might not. The game is going for the grim look, its not pleasant, its war and we are losing
  7. Someone like double fine has a larger studio, they have done this for years, they were making these boxes back in the 90's. However, it is a very expensive process and time a consuming process. Also they announced the boxed copy design and contents after they had 11500 orders. That is quite a number and came in at $100
  8. As someone who spent 15years of his life in and around the media/production and distribution business, with my father doing it every day and my brother as well. Making physical copies of the game is a real gamble and could potentially costs 1000's to implement and waste. People do not realize the gamble involved. This is because of minimum production runs usually come in batches of 100. Even the production and shipping of a Standard PC box DVD involves Case insert design- Artist time to make something unique or re-size assets to fit. Disc Design - As above Artist time Finalizing Gold Master DVD -testing Q&A of said master to ensure your not printing 1000 coasters. Cost of the case Cost of the DVD Cost of making a manual B&W or colour- Artist time- designer time- pulling it together, might take 1 person a week or 2 to do it properly with such a complex game- Why do games no longer have manuals? Because the cost of this is upto 4/5 times the price of duplication. (ask anyone who has gotten married and need 200 2page order of services) Production run involving- the making of case insert - putting in case - burning DVDs and printing/laminating them - Printing and inserting manual - Not of it is free. If you want the printing to be a higher quality or involve using more than 4 colours - double the price. Whats that you want a cloth map? That will be £4.99 at such a small production run. That extra poster another £1. Dont forget the cost of delivery to your distribution centre/house Now add the price to wrap the goods for postage. Add the cost of postage. Now add up all the time taken/spent doing all this, that is not spent on the game. Now imagine not everyone who said they would, went a ordered a box copy. You still have to do a minimum run. Stores will not stock excess games that have not gone through PEGI/BBFC and barcoded. Bloody expensive I can tell you.
  9. If it, like female portraits were chosen, then it gives Chris a new way to get players images into the game. Despite the lack of functionality. This could re-galvanize kickstarter interest by allowing for a new pledge level.
  10. it would cost Chris an Extra 0.15p a response to if all 1900 backers replied
  11. Survey has hit an 1100 response limit.. DOH!! Ok guess we will get some results soon
  12. When you click place base delete the name text popup e.g Europa Base and write something else Land of leeroys Lemingonauts Deadbasewalking Cool base 1 Hug Kiss KILL YOU! Love Shack
  13. Chris said that on this Matthew was wrong - It is meant to function in battlescape
  14. @sandis ouch, not experienced that- may try the game out on my laptop to see. @Ragnarok is it the current build v10.2? V10 fixed the hidden movement bug- was to do with alien weapons running out of ammo.
  15. @ Lee Stephen Are you aiming to release the Novella with the game or will it be an in advance/when its done release? I kinda like the idea of having something to read pre-release as part of an excitement building frenzy, if you get what I mean.
  16. They have to build the submaps... building blocks from which the maps generate first. It is a seriously time consuming process and currently done when Chris has spare time. He hasn't even started building 2 more tile variants. You dont just want a warehouse, you need it to have maybe 6 variants, then your map, might choose between the 6 warehouses or it might be grass, a carpark, or a field.. etc A level designer could be kept busy for 6months building this stuff
  17. The question is, did Chris still make you pay for the game And Hi
  18. My personal guess is female portraits will come 4/5 on the survey. This would make it the 175/200k goal.. which is where is was set originally. I think Chris knew it would be great to have them in the game, but making a better game for them to be in would be even more awesome!
  19. 1) That is Chris's presumed reasoning... it actually states on the Iceland incident "We guessed the aliens had done it deliberately," .... maybe they didnt, maybe it was something else... an orbital strike, an accident 2) Soldiers minds play tricks, the Americans had an inkling after losing a fighter wing, perhaps the Russians had secret files on previous visitors etc 3) Its a pretty big risk in 1977, they had no way of knowing where the missiles were going, to hit Russia missiles and bombers would cross the Arctic circle as it is a shorter distance.
  20. In the demo just sell everything In the real game it will be more complex Also dont blow up alien power cores- they net 50k each
  21. Everything for $30 is given to higher tiers- Chris just says Premium pre-order + on them It includes a spangly gold forum medal, a digital copy of the Xenonauts soundtrack, official desktop wallpapers, plus a lengthy digital write-up of our development diary on release.
  22. So we will find out how the Russians responded to the Americans News? And why nobody survived the initial event.. cool It would be cool to see the response to fighting side by side with their hated foes against something even worse. Did the Ruskies have air support during the assault? and did they realize what mess they were getting themselves into? Will be nice addition and perhaps it will explain why the Russians didnt just retaliate when they saw those nukes leave their silos- what made them hold back from mutual destruction.
  23. Give up this masquerade as a game designer, you have finally found your niche career
