  1. After repeating the troubleshooting steps, alls well! To recap: 1) had to swap the tiles per step 6: http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/f...n-Xenonauts%21. Trying the mission at that point loaded just fine but was missing textures. 2) Then I had to validate the game cache via steam, which is where the extra download came in, and on reloading the mission everything worked. First off, I had been really delaying playing the game and waiting for release just because I wanted to experience it once it was feature complete (and I'm glad I did, its great). Secondly, unless Chris is a team of interns / employees operating on one alias, I am really impressed with the continued support / responsiveness you have put into this even post launch! I've been psyched since pre-alpha. Well done developing in such a public context (its been going awry for others recently). And thanks for your work! Its a classic!
  2. I have the same issue on ubuntu 14.04, wine 1.6.2. update:: validating steam install returns no errors. Deleting the tile atlases and using the tiles folder provided on the bug fixes page resolves the loading issue, and the base defense missions start. However large parts of the maps are then missing, for instance the floor and some walls / computers show up and after deployment they are just blackness. Units can enter and interact with everything (black spots where doors apparently are operate and produce sounds like doors). update2:: After swapping the tiles folder out I had not re-validated my steam install. On revalidation about 145 files were not validated and were re-downloaded. Not sure if this is just re-applying the tile atlas system? I am running an intel i5vPro, 8 gig ram and integrated graphics (laptop).
  3. I believe I first DLd the game via desura, so I'll give that a shot. Nice to see a response to a post like this from the lead developer himself! Great community, great support, fantastic product. I will follow up if I cannot access the game via Desura. Cheers Katz
  4. Greetings, Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, my forum search had minimal success. I have been diving into linux and am more or less an intermediate user at this point. heres my issue: I tried installing Xenonauts for the first time on this new linux latop (ubuntu 13.10) via steam. The installation returns no errors, but completes in about 1 second. Naturally attempting to launch the game yields: no executable found. So its not downloading / installing at all. I am using the default settings for where I install steam games (~/.steam). I am opted into the experimental branch, but deopting has no effect. My desktop (windows PC) has no issues, so its not a connectivity problem. Other steam linux games DL and install just fine.. which is why I thought it wasn't a permissions problem... Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Best, Katz PS. I have abstained from playing since v17 or so but now that things are close to being polished up I just cant wait. Fantastic job!
  5. The way aliens seemed to disperse and become more rooted in as a function of time since crash / landing in xcom and tftd was a delight. Seeing an alien (or 5!!) When opening the avenger at a terror site is something I still have yet to experience. The ai and the lack of vertical stratification in xeno at this point is the main detriment to gameplay. That and the lack of ramdomizability of maps (a staple of xcom that made it highly replayable). The solution to the map diversity issue seems to be.. make rooms and tons of maps, but honestly if xeno is to get the same amount of play time as xcom.. I'm going to know those maps inside and out. Is the community in agreement with these 2 issues and if so how can they be mitigated? This is meant as constructive criticism. . Not a rant I'm trying to nitpick as much as possible
  6. I know at some point this was addressed by increasing the range of the dropship, is it intentional that at this point the local forces downed UFO missions in month 1 can be unreachable? **edited for confusing my aircraft names!
  7. Awesome, thanks much. My brother and I are die hard xcom fans, I'm buying him xenonauts for his 30th and I know he's going to be simply amazed. Keep up the awesome work!
  8. I searched the forums for this, sorry if it needs to be redirected. V18 with HF3 looks beautiful btw, great work. Ive noticed this issue before and am not sure if its an intended feature. When starting a new game, after researching the high speed interceptor, trying to build one (setting the production quantity from 0/1 to 1/1) results in the error 'no hangar space available' or somesuch. I've just started, and there is a free hangar. However, in the vehicle loadout screen under interceptors the high speed interceptor being built is shown (with rad art I might add). Something doesn't seem to be reporting correctly or I am missing it. Can someone help collect my marbles? Cheers ~Katz
  9. Ive just started playing v16 but never expected this.. North American crash sites (looks like an incomplete tileset) spawns what appear to be buildings without walls... and teleporters! Pretty awesome animation and sound too.. even the pathfinding uses them effectively. I didn't know the humans had this sort of tech though.. is this going to be implemented elsewhere or did I manage to not find the thread that discusses it? Cool!
  10. Haha thanks I was a little curious
  11. I am so psyched about the progress of this game so far =] It just keeps getting better and better. I payed for the alpha a loooong time ago and absolutely love the progression. An avid xcom fan, I picked up the firaxis remake (sort of have to if ur a fan of such magnitude) and as fun as it is, the huge appeal of the original was lost to me. Only building 1 base, fewer soldiers with more investment in personality, the feeling that you can reach everywhere on the globe (albeit not at the same time) from one location removed the tactical aspect for me entirely and just replaced it with political decisions. Fun game, but my heart is set in Xenonauts! =]
  12. Sorry if this is a duplicate post, I checked the forum and searched to no avail. rocket and machine gun vehicle sprites occasionally teleport 2-3 tiles and change orientation following a movement command. The graphic of the vehicle has moved, but the actual unit has not (clicking on the graphic does nothing, clicking where the unit should be corrects the problem until the unit is stationary again). Probably a known bug, just passing it along. Best Katz
  13. Cheeers! I have been following this project since its conception and have purchased the premium alpha for both myself and my brother (avid xcom fans growing up). This is a wonderful endeavor and the progress has been both sustained and substantial
  14. I have looked around in the forums for this, I found out that sometimes this means something isnt loading properly, or sometimes the descriptions just are not written up yet. I am running v 15, is this just something I should wait for or should I delete and reinstall?
