  1. I'm like troublechuter. I haven't taken a vehicle in over a year. Probably back in a build where they were a little fragile.
  2. Now I can't help but see the typo. "The Dyslexenonauts: Protecting humanity strategtically."
  3. I thought I would miss it, but the game actually works a little better without having to count all the ammo. The side effect is that stores are pretty useless in the game and that part could have been handled differently.
  4. Smokes and getting into cover here too.
  5. Short, quick paced and gets its message across well.
  6. Like this quite a bit. Good to see the kills and missions in there.
  7. another tell tale is that no one in the background is looking up and mouthing "what a bunch of morons" in their direction.
  8. I quite like the purple hue. I'm with Jsleezy. More of all please
  9. "Services Rendered" Gaudllike. That's all you need to know
  10. UFO defence is still the best by a country mile. TFTD as a variation of that is fine, but I enjoyed Apocalypse much more. Ah, the first brainsucker. Oh it's miles away. I'll wait and see what it...oh it's eaten his brain...
  11. Congratulations to all at Goldhawk. It's been an absolute pleasure following this game to release. Everyone on the forum should give themselves a big pat on the back too, as this is easily one of the friendliest, open places I've been a part of. Looking forward to actually sitting down and playing the game for the first time in a while. I'm getting that original X-Com thrill again. Thank you Goldhawk.
  12. Around 18k required with 62 hours remaining. If forgot all about this, until I saw the thread. I thought it sounded familiar I'm a little surprised that it's as close as this. Hopefully the last couple of days will see an influx of interest.
  13. *edits previous post* Collecting a pint of milk: The untimely death of the dairy industry.
  14. I told you all that flying unicorns should be put into Xenonauts. But did anyone listen? Nooooooo... Funny, it's not how I pictured a sea horse.
  15. I can't believe you guys allowed a thread to be distracted from it's intended purpose like this. What's the word for that? begins with a t...th..tho..no..tangent..that's it! tangent. As qdlat points out, there used be a time when all written works were literature. This broadened out when Ye Olde Waterstones realised that it needed to split up it's shops into sections. Since there's a very broad definition for literature, let's tick a few boxes. Written Work - check; Imaginative (European romantic definition) - check; culturally relevant - check; subjective value judgements on merit - check On forms of literature we have poetry - check; prose - check ; historical - check; philosophical - check; scientific - check. So that all seems easy enough and that's just this forum. We've had haiku. We've looked at military history, geopolitics, military hardware, science, technology and life beyond our planet. In addition there's some sort of game being built while all this goes on. So, we're crossing over into technical/scientific literature, often within the same posts. We also hold up a strong torch for Buddhism. But forums are more than that. I'd argue that they transcend traditional literature through their inclusive deconstruction of concepts and forms. The flexibility of forums enables many people to shape and craft numerous pieces of work simultaneously as opposed to a single person producing a bloated piece of work on a restricted subject. Flexibility is not limited to subject, but also to form. Many posts contain a mix humour, observation, anecdote while making a serious point about an underlying issue based on a traditional literary form. Posts contain prose or film narrative styles while providing an example of a technical issue of the game. A consistent writing style is not needed to reach a decision or conclusion on a forum. In fact, often it is not even desirable. Loosening such constraints allows for more thoughtful, open dialogue. The regular, open peer review nature of forums allows for consensus to be reached or a clearer awareness of relative arguments to be shown. Forums have an interesting mix of depth and focus. Posters will bring their own levels of interest and background knowledge to a forum. A balance is often reached allowing for the inclusion of those with a passing interest while also having sufficient depth to allow others to go into considerable detail on any point that interests them. Lines of form blur and vanish on a forum where such a wide group of interests, cultures and styles collide. Getting to a relevant point is often far more prevalent in a forum than in a magazine article or book. That opens us up into the purpose of literature in today's media and compare it with the accepted definitions outlined at the start of the post. You'll be able to get all that into the first minute. Now for minute two...
  16. What? I've got a pile of '90s romcom movies here waiting to get burnt, and you guys are talking about some sort of game release? Well done Goldhawk!
  17. Don't worry, not worth getting your cheeks burning with embarrassment over.
  18. Pleased to hear that. Of course you could also just give us extra starting money anyway to enable all those other strategies...no? Bah!
  19. There was some Laser Squad after signing this off to Microprose, I'm fairly sure. If anything it might be tough to expand on Laser Squad and not[/] get it too close to X-Com. Still, build a group of interstellar mercenaries across various missions ...Rebelstar Raiders or some such would be a real treat. I'm just pleased to be backing this though. Who knows what other ideas Gollop has in store. I read the Pbs post as a funny myself.
  20. thanks for the link Gauddlike. I've had a lot of fun playing some similar things in the past, going back into tabletop RPG. So it should be lots of fun on multiplayer. It's one of those seemingly straightforward games, with some clever complexity underneath. With Gollop's history and knowledge of this sort of game, again going back into that tabletop territory, it's going to be well constructed enough to really be worth a look. Looking at the pages for the game, it already seems to have solid foundations there. That's without even bowing in homage to Rebelstar, Laser Squad or X-Com ...and backed. Someone made the comment that if this one is backed, then who knows what might be next...
