  1. To make the blasterlauncher type of weapon feasable i would suggest max 2 way points/LoF turns and all it does is "knockdown", makeing the alien fall down and sapping the AP for the alien untill players next turn. And it only affects one tile per projectile. Projectiles should be bulky and timeconsuming to reload/fire. That might make for some interesting tactics without giving you godmode once you get your own version. Alternatives fro Psi could be say "screeching grenades" emmitting some sort of sound able to interfere with aliens normal behaviour. (causing them to panic or berserk or finding the alien "brown note"... one of the oddest myths ive ever heard) I think there is some thread about alternatives to PSI already? Was it Chris that made that one?
  2. If blaster requires line of sight doesnt that make it a rocketlauncher? How would you motivate it damageing your operative? Requireing 100% of your TU still doesnt limit the blasterlauncher enough to remove the feeling that it is "overpowered" I think its just as much an immersion issue as it is about beeing overpowered. The idea is that humans cant develope PSI that fast. I understand where you are comming from but hopefully there wont be anything in the game that makes the endgame feel like more of a chore then a challange.
  3. Still id rather have the option to go through the tutorial without starting a new game. Also would difficulty affect the tutorial if its tied to a new game?
  4. Heh thought we left the too powerful bit after you elaborated that you did not mean damage. I dunno 3-4 points might be too powerful, not by itself but stacked with all the other medal bonuses. It depends on how Chris balances everything. I'm just trying to advocate not trying to get too big bonuses, before we know anything about the balance, because that might harm the gameplay either by forcing you to "hunt" medals or by makeing some aspect ridicolously easy if you have a bunch of medals.
  5. Did you try using the rocketlauncher from a safe location through the door? I forgot if the rocket launchers explosion is larger then the grenades. Next time you might want to move more then one soldier in per turn if you encounter that =P Haveing your pistol guy move further into the ufo and haveing your shotgun followup and unload would probably have had largest chance of sucess given your circumstances.
  6. Ah i was decived by the wording my bad =P But how would you apply that if theres multiple alien types in the mission?
  7. Guaddlike i dont follow the logic behind "first one to capture an alien type" = "does more damage against said alien type". Why would they deal more damage? I need a reason that doesn't make it feel like the medal system is there just for the sake of giving you (too powerful) bonuses.
  8. My problem with that idea is that it doesnt take into account non moveing actions such as turning shooting or using a medpack/inventory.
  9. I'm against bonuses for going through the tutorial. Imo it shouldnt be tied to a new game at all, not even through checkboxes. Imo it should be standalone and in chapters, so you can choose which part (geoscape, Ufo crassite, terror mission, night mission, base defense etc.) Possibly even make the tutorial available during a current game without you needing to go back to the startup menu. meaning once you finish the tutorial it goes back to where you were when you opened it. (Wishlist item. I can see it not being worth codeing though)
  10. AD: What if you make something incredibly awesome that the game doesnt recognize? would you rather have a manula ingame record or would you be pushing for patches with a medal for that unforseen siuation you just manged to acomplish? Bibidibop: Xenonauts is a private organization as far as i know. i dont think it can give out oher armies medals. and i also think that would be annoying and pointless codeing.
  11. Just like the guy in your avatar they belong to the X-com IP and Xenonauts would probably get in trouble for copyright infrigement if they included them.
  12. AD: how about adding a customable "trophy" or something distinguashible from the medals that you can award manually for whatever exceptionally awesome thing they did that didnt get covered by the medal system (limited to one per soldier?) That way you can "record" your favourite moment. (ie you get to type in whatever you want in the description field)
  13. I know this was a while back but i just have to say: AD Brink has a big immersion braker for me: Its litterally a floating goldmine of advanced tech and other shit you could plunder and sell. they ahve little to no military defense (the only thing they have that i can determine is internal security forces) and yet they have no pirate problems whatso ever? No one infiltrated them to scope them out prior to or during the move away from "just outside san fransico" either? SERIOULY? no pirates whatso ever? Noone even turned pirate to loot that tech booty? I made one of my terrorist chars look as piratey as i could but it wasnt really that fullfilling. PS. Pirate > Ninja DS. PPS. Monkey > Robot > Cowboy DS.
  14. Alien crush: I believe 1 and 3 are buggs rather then suggestions.
  15. Personally i dont like temporary awards or 1 time useable awards. defeats the wole point of a medal system imo. the system shouldnt be there for the bonuses, it should be there for getting attached to your soldiers and a small (almost insignificant) bonus helps with that. But you shouldn't have to rely on the medal bonuses to play the game. You shouldn't be forced to push your support class soldiers into combat to get medals because they are falling behind and they will be useless if you dont make them catch up. Nor should your frontline assult guys be overpowered because they got so many pins they loke like a porcupine.
  16. Does that mean you cant be immersed in a movie? or a book unless it is from the characters point of view? I disagree with you. There seems to be some definition issue here.
  17. For this discussion im assuming that each medal/ribbon gives +1 bravery and no other stat will be adjusted.
  18. You're makeing assumptions here so im free to assume that while they are close they might not be the final product. As im not entirely clear on what you want you will have to forgive for not understanding understand how it will be "drastic changes". I'm still not entirely clear on what you wanted. Did you want a change in their moddles to look more ragged the whole time? Or do you want effects applying on the battlefield? You say they are in a warzone yes. but they got airdropped into it from a baze with all the comodities they could want (we even saw a rec room in there right? you spotted a piano i believe). Their uniforms are going to be whole and clean as they enter the battlefield. and touchups like makeing the character look wet if he moves through water, or dirty moveing through.. god knows what, isnt going to be added untill everything else is ironed out. Edit: that being said it probably wont make it in, but complaining about it before you know if it will or not? meh.
  19. Yes but you did infact not produce many hundereds of thousands of them, you only produced 10 for your soldiers and 10 for Japan! (no wait, that's another game) and every hillbilly in texas needs one NOW! also they dont care for your fancy Elirium Element 115 Alienuim or whatever you call that goo/crystal/mist/shiney/whatever. And their mums dont have any recipy for cooking those tangy grey donkies uncle thingamabobs
  20. I dont think anyone would ever intentionally go for the star of Sol medal... ever. Edit: Darn in my head that star of sol also had a minimum rank requirement somewhere above seargant... still unlikely anyone will sacrifice 4 squadmembers for a shot at that medal. I like that idea, assuming each ribbon only provides its bonus once so that you don't get a bigger bonus for getting 3 silver stars over one bronze. That could help you get attached to your soldiers while keeping the bonuses low. and the fact that all solders most likely will have different degrees(?) on their medals will be awesome.
  21. Personally I don't like the randomness that comes with a living market (if you have to rely on playing it). I' d rather have either nothing at all or an increasingly profitable manufacturing process the deeper into the techtree you get. possibly with 2 options for each plateau, one quick but small margin and one timeconsuming but slightly larger profit (compared to the number of quick profits you can ship out in the same time.) Technically an organization such as X-com or Xenonauts would never be able to saturate the market for any manufactured goods. They are the sole manufacturer and supplier and demand must be severeal thousand times the supply. Probably not for alien corpses either (if not if not pharmacutical companies i bet universities or teaching hospitals can never get enough of those corpses.)
  22. AD isnt those things more "achivement" oriented? I'm afraid that it will lead to farming medals. If medals are going to provide a small bonus you cant ahve too many of them or they will break gameplay. either it will cause problems when soldiers doesnt have enough and they stand no chance against endgame attacks or your soldiers will be able to ignore those endgame attacks because they stacked too many medals. If you are going to award medals for things like "killing 2 aliens with 1 granade" (dont think any army or organization would award a medal for such things) you're going to have to either remove the bonus or award a bonus for every 5-10 medals the soldier earns. (Edit: or possibly a cap on the number of medals one soldier can earn)
  23. baisicly you are dissapointed an unfinished game is lacking polish that applies dirt to their armor if they walk in the forrest or blood if they get shot? Or are you expecting them to staticly have ragged uniforms? im not sure i understand your greif with how the models look AD.
