I'm new to the game, and I love it so far. I'm just wondering if selling alien ammo clips and alloys is a good idea. What does researching the alloys do, and will I need the alien ammo clips for when I use the aliens guns at some point?

Alien ammo you can sell; go ahead.

When you develop your own plasma weapons, you use your own ammo. The alien ammo can and should be sold, it is useless.

The only reason you can get them, and they aren't autosold, is because later in the game a bit, once you research Alenium, those alien mags will be converted into Alenium after the ground mission is over (it's an alien energy source, if you haven't gotten that far yet.)

Alloys, however, are quite valuable at the moment. They are more rare than they should be in many people's opinions, so I wouldn't recommend selling those. They are used for making better weapons, armors, aircraft, etc.

Researching Alien Alloys lets you start doing more research projects, which unlock manufacturing projects, etc. Basically, research them. You kinda have to to progress, and the aliens aren't going to wait for you to do it.

You can sell most of the Alenium though, it isn't used for much.
