Interestingly, when I engage them in combat, they always try to run away and can be shot down by mere 2 hits from magstorm. Oooh, that was just what I was asking myself reading the first sentence. Perhaps it shows you that by that stage the aliens know that the invasion's not going to work and all the alien engineers have taken up better paying jobs on Earth.
