  1. Any Chance this Patch goes live today on the steam live version?
  2. I am currently playing on Iron Man, so I don't exactly have option to test that out: I am wondering how base defense works. You can build defense buildings in your base which have a defense value. I also know that you can fight a ground combat with all your available troops. So...can you secure your base enough with defense buildings so it never comes to a fight on the ground? Is the base automatically lost if the Ufo makes it past the defense building and you have no ground troops? Does it mean that you have to have ground troops in every base? Or will it work if you put a couple of defense buildings there?
  3. I only watched Let’s Plays for Distant Worlds but from what I can tell, the game isn’t for everyone. There are several elements which make a unprofessional impression, like the sound effects, the “windows skin” scrollbar and the slow build-up of the windows. Put what’s the biggest problem for me is that it’s designed in a way that you don’t take total control. It’s not like you are flying around like in GalCiv2 or Master of Orion and have that great feeling of “Cool! I just found a Gaia Planet, this will be my new Food Production Central!”. In Distant Worlds you can automate a lot of things. Actually you can automate everything if you want to. Now apparently lots of people like this. But I am a perfectionist. When playing 4X games I never use the automatic governor, I place everything manually, I want total control. And while you can play Distant Worlds that way too, it’s quite apparent that it’s not designed to be played that way. The same goes for Stardrive btw. Just that Stardrive is far less complex and is even considered to be unfinished. Anyhow I have one game I can recommend: Armada 2526 Gold which also happens to be 70% off on steam at the moment: http://store.steampowered.com/app/229970 The one big thing which might not be very “intuitive” here is that you basically play for points. You can create huge universes, conquering everything is unrealistic. From what I know there is also no other “victory condition”. But you can set up a turn limit at the start of the game, and the race with the highest amount of points wins. But every race has other ways to generate points. So a warmonger race might need to stay in combat to generate victory points. And if I remember right there is a plant-like faction which gets points for “spreading” as much as possible and so on. This seems very gamey, however the game is nothing like a board game. The other mechanics are pretty much like in games like Master of Orion. The game itself is turnbased. Combats however are fought in realtime. Unfortunately they are plain cut out in multiplayer so I can’t judge them. Exploration is quite fun, different types of planets, nicely done graphics, extremely huge universe, tons of races, and the one or another game mechanic which felt really nice. I think the population and tourism mechanics were quite good in that game.
  4. Well, that is indeed bad luck and should not have happened. And yes, you could have shot it down. I find these vehicles incredibly helpful as they can scout without dieing instantly when being shot at. Well...a unit with a shield might survive 1 turn of being shot at if he has some luck in the beginning of the game.
  5. Started another game. Second mission with vehicle, same bug: (only 4 minutes)Do you need additional examples?
  6. And here is the other Vid: Playing on Insane Ironman if that is of any relevance.
  7. Alrighty, was faster than I thought: My guess is that the vehicle leaves a hitbox behind when it gets hit. Will upload another video during this night showing the previous level.
  8. Happened to me in 2 out of 4 missions or so. I don't know why exactly it happened. All I can do is to show a video with the whole mission. But that would take a while to apply the codec and upload it. Could link it tomorrow if that helps.
  9. I guess I got around 100 Cards till now. Of these 0 were rare. ^^
  10. If you use bullets to open a door the door may open and revealing sight. But the path is still blocked:
  11. I experienced the bug in two different missions that the hitbox of the vehicle did not move with the vehicle but stayed back at an old position. This old hitbox is then blocking shots. The most ridicolous thing happened the second time: I moved my vehicle, shot back over the old position resulting in destryong myself. Uploaded as Video: This game later on also crashed, no idea if that was related.
  12. Yep, might be a good idea to sell them right away and rebuy them later on. ^^ Also when going over 0.22 Cents the fee increases to over 2 cents. So the developer gets additional money this way. Just don't put them in for the price shown in the graph. The prices will go down inevitably. So if the card you want to sell is listed as "30 times in the last 24 hours for $0.40" it's still a good idea to check the availablity of the card. If there are several offers already for 39 Cents, it doesn't make sense to put them in for 0.40, because it won't reach this price anymore. However there will probably be additional price spikes when the games officially releases and when it gets into sales. These spikes will however end in a lower price a week later or so (until it reached the base price which is dependent on the number of cards for the game).
  13. I'd like to give a little overview here. ^^ Most Games on Steam have these Trading Cards nowadays. What to do with them? You can collect them and once you have one of each card you can turn them in. In exchange you get: -goodies for steam with the theme of the game. Normally chat smilies or background pictures -XP on your steam account. This grants steam level, which then opens up additional possibilities for your profile. If you check my profile for example: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197997012035/ You see a background picture - this is a picture you can get when turning in one pack of Metro: Last Light Cards. You can also see showcases where the achievements are displayed. The higher the level you are the more showcases you can put there. There you can display rarest achievements, number of games and whatnot. A higher steam level also increases the amount of people you can have in your friends list, though you will hardly reach the "normal" limit anyways. -You also receive a "Badge" which shows you turned in a pack of cards. You can see that on the right in my profile (e.g. Hotline Miami, Level 1 - yes, Level 1, you can turn them in multiple times) However if you want a special reward, like a background picture or a smiley, it's probably most effective to just sell the cards and buy the thing you want directly from the market. People mainly use packs to Level up in steam. The pictures and so on are mainly a byproduct. How to get them? -You earn them by running the game. If you see yourself in the friendslist with the status "Playing XYZ" the time is counting towards getting the card. After about 3-4h you normally got all cards which you can earn that way. This is normally about half of all available cards. So if a game has 5 cards, you will get about 3. If a game has 14 cards you will get 7. Though they might be double. -The other way to get them is by sheer luck. Personally I got like 1 "pack" each 4 months or so, if not even less... That is a couple of cards for a random game you played lately. This method of acquiring cards is totally random. -And of course you can buy them. The more cards there are in a game, the less they are worth. So for a game with 6 cards, where you might need 3 cards, you pay 15 cents for each card. And for a game with 10 cards, where you have 5, you might need to pay like 10 Cents or so. -And there are holiday sales: During Christmas and Summer Sales you can normally vote on steam like "which of these 3 games should be on sale for the next 8 hours". For each couple of votes you get a steam holiday card - which then again can be put together to a holiday badge. These holiday badges can also bring you items for games which are directly connected to steam. Like Team Fortress or DOTA2. Depending on the rareness of these items they can be worth nothing and up to a couple of hundred Euros/Dollars. The Cool thing about these sales is also that each pack you complete you get an extra holiday card. So if you have a full set of cards from Game A and turn it in during a holiday sale, you get (or got at least) one extra holiday card. -Last but not least you can also trade them with friends if you both have steam guard activated. You can of course also sell the cards Normally the price of cards is between 6 Cents and 20 Cents. I think it's a percentage like 5% or so which goes to steam and another 5% or so which goes to the developer. However the minimum of the fee is 1 Cent each. So if you sell a card for 6 Cent, steam will get 1 Cent, and the developer gets 1 Cent. You will get the remaining 4. If you sell a card for 20 Cents, steam will get 1 cents, the devs will get 1 cent, and you will get 18 cents. So my guess is that for developers it's probably most effective to have lots of cards as there will probably be more transactions. However if the game has just 6 cards, you might feel more attracted to buying the remaining 3. So in summary: These cards are indeed totally pointless if you are realistic. But so is playing games. And like playing games it is fun for some people. And if you don't like to collect these cards at all, you can profit from them anyways but just selling all of them. Personally I handle it the following way: I see the steam trading cards as some "mini game". I don't invest own money at all. However I also don't want to make profit with it. I split the games I play into two categories: The ones I want to have badges for, and the ones where I don't. I sell the cards for those games where I don't want them. And instead of using the money from my wallet when purchasing a game, I keep it aside and use it for buying cards for the games where I want to collect the badge. In the end everyone profits: -Players who don't want to bother with it, can either ignore it, or get around 30-50 Cents for selling the cards. -Players who like to collect them have a neat little time sink and can decorate their profile -Developers receive extra money from each trade. Which isn't tons of money, but it's some extra money coming in for a very tiny effort. In addition players might find games more attractive if they have cards - especially during sales later on.
  14. No idea if it was due to our feedback, but I am glad you implemented Steam Trading Cards and the Panic change to 40 morale instead to 50. For your own sake. ^^
  15. Just make sure you buy Jagged Alliance 2 or Jagged Alliance 2 Gold. Do not buy Jagged Alliance Wildfire (and there are actually two versions of it, a German and a English one which are different). Instead use JA2 (or Gold) and mod it with 1.13 as Victor said. 1.13 has a "modmod" which implements Wildfire maps and characters.
  16. Loved XCom Apocalypse. You fight in buildings which "look" somewhat more realistic than in the other games, and have some great physics stuff. I mean collapsing buildings are one thing, but burning ammo can also hit the carpet and then start a fire...that was pretty cool. Also liked the city and how the corporations got infiltrated by aliens. So if I remember right you don't just fight aliens but also alien lovers. Was a pretty good mix.
  17. But before this thread I would not have been aware of it. And it's not intuitive that squad members could randomly panick out of nothing.
  18. But the thing is, that this will lead to nothing but frustration: Frustration especially for new players who are not aware of the formular and are just wondering "wtf did I wrong here?" Frustration for Ironman players. You can't just load due to these incidents. You might as well filter out low morale solders right away. General Frustration for increased and unnecessary RNG.
  19. Doesn't sound like a good mechanic if you ask me. That's like having a soldier which doesn't just miss, but shoots himself into his head - until he missed some "incidents" and survived the mission anyhow in order to shoot straight without hurting himself.
  20. Wouldn't "second this" mean that you agree...which you...kinda don't? ^^ Well, what I mean is that these are Hero-Focused 4X games where you have a big army and multiple cities which you can improve and so on. Whether or not they have some differences here and there...well...still would it call the same genre. But don't ask me for a name for this genre. Another game I forgot, also in development is: Halfway: Where you play a group of guys fighting through a space ship or space station.
  21. Most games mentioned are actually games like Heroes of Might and Magic. Closest to XCom and Banner Saga is actually Expeditions Conquistador, which happens to be on Steam Sale for just 5 Bucks. Great game, highly recommended. In this game you can run around in a open world, you have a crew of guys, need to get proviant and of course gold. And you can decide how you treat the indians. Do you want to rob them, or help them. Or ally yourself to the Atztecs and help their tyrnanny. Battle Worlds: Kronos is also a great game. But it's really a strategy game like Panzer general or so. Probably not what you are looking for. Also in Development are the following turn based Games which go more into direction of XCom or pure RPGs where you play a group and have turn based and grid based tactical combat: Dead State: There you play a group of Zombie Apocalypse survivors. You need to improve your base, gather food and...survive. Currently in early early access stage. UFO Extraterrestrials 2: First game wasn't bad. Actually much better than all the real time UFO games. Release date is postponed every few months. Don't hold your breath. Massive Chalice: Tactics game from double fine (the Monkey Island guys). Financed via Kickstarter. Not too much information about it yet. Jagged Alliance Flashback: The new turn based Jagged Alliance takes shape, looks good, but wil probably not release during this year. Torment: pure RPG with group/grid/turn-based tactical combat set in a weird nightmarish world Wasteland 2: also pure RPG with group/grid/turn-based tactical combat set in a post apocalyptic world The Age of Decadence: also pure RPG with group/grid/turn-based tactical combat set in a post apocalyptic world with roman style Antharion: also pure RPG with group/grid/turn-based tactical combat set in a fantasy world. Very indie, but looks great. Avernum 2: also pure RPG with group/grid/turn-based tactical combat set in a fantasy world. Very indie. Avernum 1: Escape from the Pit is one of the best and hardest RPGs I played yet. Highly recommended if you can get over the poor graphics and sound.
  22. Is there any overview about the modificators in this interruption system? For example I didn't know about the 0.5x modifier. When the interruption check happens and how exactly it's calculated. And when / how much TUs are reduced when being shot at. As mentioned before, doesn't really feel intuitive at all, so a rule overview about this would be cool.
