  1. Might have been a dead one laying around, the bodies don't always render correctly if they die in the crash. Make sure you look at your items at the end of the mission.
  2. This is the first time I've actually sat down and made an effort to play through the game, since it seems to be in decent shape now and close enough to feature complete that I'm not missing anything major, and I have to say I'm having a blast. You guys really outdid yourselves.
  3. The ship in Crimson Dagger was also knocked out of the sky with an airbursting strategic warhead, which could have gone off literally anywhere in the surrounding 10-20 klicks and had the desired effect. Needless to say, the sidewinders and other such precision missiles we're discussing are wildly different beasts.
  4. It's fine, I like it. A klick does seem a little short, but I can't remember off the top of my head what the engagement range in game actually is, so just alter the number to whatever that is and go with that explanation. Boom, problem solved, nerds can rest easy that their video game isn't too gamey.
  5. Alternatively, blame it on jamming. Claim the UFOs have advanced jamming and countermeasures, noisemakers and chaff and the whole shebang, and have the alternative be the necessity to acquire an optical-based weapons lock as opposed to one based on signal alone.
  6. This is the most important thing right here - a ton of the complaining about realism on the forums involves adding/changing shit for the sake of adding/changing shit, or, at best, the sake of the interested party's personal biases, when doing so would add literally nothing to the game and serve only to clutter up an already hefty title. A simple 'no' should be sufficient in these cases, but often people have doggedly kept whining about their personal item of incredible immersion destruction, and it generally shits up the forums and is annoying as all hell. Point being, anyone using this thread should remember one very important thing - Xenonauts is NOT being crowd-developed. All decisions to be made about the game are for Chris and the other members of the development team alone. No amount of whining about your favorite location or firearm will change that. So if your idea gets shot down, no whining about it - you have no stake, stop pretending you do. Now, since that lengthy rant is out of the way, Gizmo's idea is a very good one - edits to the text-based Xenopedia as explanation for inconsistencies are far easier than major changes because somebody can't handle a break from reality in his Alien game. Even if no official changes are made ingame, any explanations thought up here can just be packaged into some kinda MY IMMERSION mod and released that way.
  7. Well, considering the MiG-31 the Foxtrot is an altered version of wasn't exactly known for floating like a butterfly itself, it makes perfect sense to me. It's more of a high speed interceptor than a fighter. Now, if you want to ask why said interceptor's missile weaponry appears to have had it's tracking systems designed by a five-year old, well, that's a question for another day, and also GAME BALANCE BUTTER THAN REALISMS/MY IMMERSION and all that.
  8. I was wondering about that. Pretty sure there aren't any Shermans in Xenonauts, but I was kinda confused and started hunting through the sprites. But seriously, poor Shermans.
  9. Yeah, in this case I think the current system makes perfect sense and adding a couple extra screens on for the sake of a couple people's immersion is pointless. There's plenty of mucking about done in workshops and labs as is, having to micromanage everything would just be a waste of time. Not that it looked like there were going to be any changes anyway. Not to mention, Trash, you're a modder. You don't like the system, change it after the fact and pass the result around.
  10. Ah. I forgot about the Forum switch, would make sense that a ton of stuff is missing then. In any case, what MrPyro outlined is literally exactly how I had seen the Airstrike option going, the only difference being Tomahawks versus MiGs. So if that is still planned for inclusion, then great. If not, then I'll just chalk it up to game balance. Thanks for the answers.
  11. Cool. I wasn't able to find anything, even on the wiki, but if people recall it being mentioned then I guess that answers my question. Not to mention only having the option to destroy 'obsolete' UFO's makes more sense from a gameplay perspective. Thanks guys.
  12. Hi all. Let me preface this by stating that a quick search turned up nothing on this topic, so if it has in fact been discussed before then I apologize for wasting everyone's time. Basically, the idea would be that upon downing a UFO, if, for whatever reason, you cannot/don't want to assault it, you could order in an airstrike using your planes and simply remove it from the map. Obviously, this means no salvage of any sort, but it lets you get rid of a pesky scout crash instead of having to waste time on it, or gets rid of a battleship should you not prepare and your initial landing goes south. The reason I bring this up is because it always felt supremely strange to me to just leave a downed enemy vessel for it's friends to pick up if I couldn't spare the time for it, for whatever reason. Now, there are a few issues already obvious to me. For instance, depending on the method the Aliens use to progress, it may be too easy to force the game into an eternal stalemate of just blasting every UFO you see and never trying to take one. Maybe I'm jaded by other gaming communities, but I have a feeling that even if you made it clear in documentation what would occur if you did this, you'd still get a ton of people complaining about halted campaign progress when the game finally releases. There's also the issue of realism (assuming anyone cares), like if you managed to down a UFO over Miami and you flatten the beach to blow it up. Likely wouldn't go over well with the Chiefs of Staff. Now, let me reiterate that this is just an idea that popped into my head, and not only have I not put a whole lot of thought into it, it's very likely there's some game mechanic I don't know about for this thing already. Like I said, I only did a quick search. But if this is a new thing then lets have some discussion about it!
  13. Howdy. Found out about Xenonauts this evening, pre-ordered in a heartbeat. X-COM is the greatest game I ever played, and this looks to be the first project to do that legacy justice. Keep at it, good luck, and deliver something you can be proud of. I look forward to playing it.
