  1. I agree though. You never know what those plasma shotguns may be capable of? Or perhaps a directed pressure gun of some sort? Though you'd still need to miss the cover. Or perhaps a gun which is really, really good at destroying cover, therefore leaving the alien who was hiding behind it exposed... That's quite a niche role. Take lots of those and then you can't kill the aliens easily, but don't take any and it may be hard to break them out of their strongpoint...
  2. Also here are the rank insignia from the old forum: and some by Erafiel: and one by Jean-Luc:
  3. I have an idea, but no art skill to knock it up. Wolfpox, if you feel up to it perhaps you could try? Basically I imagine something like your previous, but in two different styles. Each one has 3 men in it, the most prominent is always a soldier, either in uniform and helmet, or in regalia, depending on what looks better. Now the layout is either soldier in the centre, with a scientist and engineer on either side of him, all looking outwards. Probably all busts of them, soldier looks forwards, and the two others are slightly smaller, slightly behind the soldier, and look out towards their edges. This gets across the soldier aspect of the game, but also represents the strategy with the engineer and scientist. The other idea is like the first one posted by Black_Legion, where the three men all face the same way. Also I think add some colour to it. Keep it mainly black and white, but add some yellow in there (black and yellow are stereotypical of danger warnings etc.) Also a last idea is like this, but replace the soldier with a xenonaut and change up the colours:
  4. I don't think so (no projectile weapons actually knock things back like in movies, mythbusters told me that was a lie... =[), but being able to stun over cover sounds pretty good!
  5. @ Gauddlike, what's confusing? Getting boners using flares, or just having flares?
  6. Not a bad start! But yeah, a bit of grammar and spelling etc. and it'd be much better!
  7. Hmmm interesting. I guess that actually works the same as vaulting over, but better! Mainly because if you just knocked them back you'd still have to shoot them, and then you'd still be on the wrong side of the cover!
  8. I like some of these poster ideas! Well done you guys! Also I'm a fan of the art work you did on the man Wolfpox, but as Black_Legion said, we just don't know enough about the talking heads to say at the moment
  9. Yeah, for me they were all just autocrouching, they were't leaning at all
  10. It could just be me, but it kind of looks like the earth is a write off (read:it looks like a no earth here sign). Also putting it behind bars doesn't really inspire me to save the world, rather I think something that shows the world under attack (as opposed to already subdued) would be better. Perhaps a world with several alien ships in front of it/ or heading towards it?
  11. True. Maybe only morale loss for those directly affected. And then at the loss of life due to external combustion, any ally within a certain area of the dead guy takes a morale hit? Sort of like the reverse of the officers moral boost perhaps?
  12. Surely though the Xenonauts are the first line of defence, the last line would be people hiding in their homes with guns...
  13. How do you manual fire at nothing? That would be really useful... My guys were hunkering down behind those transformers on the bottom left of the screen, shooting at the alien building...
  14. Yeah but you have to get there first... and there is no cool animation kicking them back making you feel like a bad arse! Or anything =p
  15. Perhaps he likes putting explodey things inside plushies?! Now if you get one as a preorder bonus, beware... Also @ Sathra, that makes them sound like thousand suns...
  16. Hmmm just went and played a whole ground mission, and found a few things to discuss... Any idea when the pre-order only forums are coming online? The reason I did that was to watch the animation for being in cover, and I never actually saw the guys behind cover (a) lean towards it or (b) stand up to shoot. Have I been following the wrong assumptions this whole time?
  17. I don't see why that can't be applied That's fine, as I said previously I think it should cost a small amount to change stance, not really too much that if you mess up you're annoyed, but enough to make you think about it. But at the same time it could work without said cost. It's just a matter of either still maintaining autocover, or having to manually choose cover, and I am heavily into the autocover idea (and therefore either no cost, or automatic cost) I tend to agree with you, but only because the animation shows no leaning on the cover etc. I don't want to limit cover too much though, and while it is undoubtably the best defence wise, your unit is an offensive, and often outnumbered unit... Might I suggest perhaps a compromise of sorts, just for discussion. Perhaps taking a shot from behind cover gives the opposition less chance of a reaction shot? This represents them not being able to see you fully, and therefore not being able to tell what you're going to do. This allows cover to protect you even while you are being offensive, rather than making you a better shot. Good compromise, or not what people are looking for? That sounds about right, but again there is the sorting out whether things should cost or not...
  18. @Jecrell, feel free to start up another thread to discuss whatever you want, I just thought this might be a nice thing people could pitch in on. And no Latin is definitely not mandatory, though I don't believe I ever said it was... And I don't know if Xenonauts is the official name, but I imagine that it comes from Xeno = alien, and naut as in astronaut and cosmonaut; something to do with space I guess
  19. Chuck Noris isn't in the game! =O But yeah I agree with everyone too, it was a bit of wishful thinking. I guess what I was really trying to get at is a way to make the aliens break cover, other than grenades, and possibly flamers. Any ideas on that? Anyone have any ideas how to change the title of a thread, I want to change it to "forcing enemies to break cover" or something along those lines...
  20. I know that vaulting over cover is planned for the game, but I have been playing a wee bit of Gears of war 3, and one of the things you can do in that is vault over the cover, and if there is someone on the other side you knock them back, Then shoot them, hopefully... This could apply to Xenonauts as a valid tactic, as it would not the enemy out of cover, and force them to stand up. Granted it would be done cautiously as your man would be on the wrong side of the cover, but if you're having a hard time killing an entrenched enemy... Animation wise, well I don't know, perhaps you could just try running the 'get into cover' animation backwards? Maybe with a bit more staggering perhaps?
  21. lol Sathra I thought that quote ended "steal their firey bits" first time I read it =p
