  1. Yes. +1 Slow down the Foxes. Speed up the Condor. That way the enemy escorts shoot their rockets (2 rockets each) against your dogfighter and you barrel roll dodge them. You can then outrange and anihilate them with your laser/basic cannon. Once the fighters are down your Foxes can easily get the Corvette. Only problem is, when the corvette targets the condor aswell, in that case you need to disengage a bit since its slower. Mind you this takes a lot of fuel. EDIT: You might find this video helpful too, its a bit outdated, but I think the idea is the same.
  2. No, but they come for free with the scatter lasers... and then theres corsairs dual wielding those.
  3. In theory, in practice I find the carbine better at medium ranges, than the rifle. The more projectiles make for a better chance to hit for less ap, but more ammo spent. As for long range, theres precision laser. The carbine also has a reaction modifier 1.5. Its also lighter?
  4. That is a nice statement. Im not sure how to put this... you say that a game thats not fair, but looks "not silly" is a good one. While a game that is fair and looks silly, is trying to be perfect and fails?
  5. No victory is without sacrifice. ata= air-to-air your dogfighter cannons get upgraded with the tiers heavy research completed. Shrike only adds 2 places, back when it had 12, I rushed it. Now im not so sure, they do offer much less cover than charlie. Corsairs would take priority before a tank though. For me it boils down to wether I plan to play terror mission (go tank) or try to stop them before they begin(go corsair).
  6. Id rather have aliens looking silly spining around using up the aps, than have them see everything they "could" see for free.
  7. Agreeing with Went on point 5. I think theres not enough action going down on the gc, too few aliens too few soldiers and hardware. The geosphere is a whole another matter, which could be so much more macro it hurts.
  8. Thats what I meant. Those few seconds can be QUITE painful... not to mention the game can get laggy. Whereas unburdening ones heart on the forum feels good. That too
  9. I dont like your first base placement, my first is usually Northern Africa or maybe the Middle East. I place my third in Oceania, yours seems too up north for my tastes. Soviets have a large field to cover and yet, they never let me down even if I only survey the European part. Our 2nds are more or less the same. I wouldnt bother with ordering f-17s, the two you get at start is usually good enough for me, migs are faster and stronger. Sure theres alien superiority fighters, but not nearly enough to justify 2 condors per base, the upkeep of aircraft is ridiculous. Go 2migs 1f-17 per base, the third base doesnt have to be up and running the second month, but you do need 3 radars in the first two.(Thats my opinion anyway) Other than that I cant really think of any hints for your geoscape, you seem to have the right idea. Now to the good part... ground combat. Jackal is useless, it saved some lives for me(probably anyway), but dont bother. Research stun weapons asap, lasers are expensive and take long to build, while stun batons are free and reliable. Flashbang to supress, then beat senseless. You should be just fine until corvettes with this. Androns and Sebillian Officers dont really respond well to the shock treatment. It is possible to do corvettes with just the basic free gear, but a laser carbine or a precision laser goes a long way. Scatter(heavy) lasers are awesome not to mention the ata guns upgrade, get those fast! Dont be afraid of unarmored laser arms. Ive had many soldiers in wolf armor killed by a single burst from a normal plasma rifle, the damage range is that insane... on insane... . Not to mention their more dangerous weaponry and grenades. So thats it, go damage first and try to outmanouver the enemy, the armor is unreliable. Oh and while ground combat is hard, you need that cash, so go do the mission, airstiking doesnt give nearly as much as a successful raid does, never mind what the tip says. [EDIT] Ive recently tried vehicles again, because a number of people said theyre getting good results with 6+1. I must say they did get better, when its no longer about money(youre in danger of losing the mission), or in terrors in general that additional firepower works wonders, just dont let the enemy hit your "armored vehicles" because they die way too easily. [/EDIT] I never made it when I tried to skip plasma, so I dont recommend that, blue androns and armored sebillians make a habbit of ignoring my lasers so build a few plasma guns. (again only carbines, precision and heavy).
  10. Yeah when I wanna ragequit I just kill the process.
  11. As far as ballistic goes I gotta agree with mvm, higher tier rifles seem a little better(along with soldier having higher accuracy), but the burst fire still seems fishy... the damage is there, the aim is not. Besides higher tier carbine can hit stuff long past its effective range for less ap. An aimed rifle shot it better, but costs twice as much ap. Still, the rifle is supposed to be universal, which it is. I dont use them at all, I find the specialized ones better.
  12. And since shit like this doesnt really happen, you can easily turn it off. Unless of course throwing down 20 weapons every other turn works for you. Screenshots? I think its f12 by default on steam? EDIT: Oh and by the way, this thread tells you how to: http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/11291-Any-way-to-turn-off-psi
  13. If they could lock them too,... open pits and auto turrets... oh boy shit would get real.
  14. Youre missing the point, this thread is about the grenades you cant see coming, the ones that you can NOT adapt to. Spreading out your soldiers may save all but the one getting naded. It is more about whining about bugs than actual game features being missing. In your nice list, you failed to address the adaptation to psionics, which you named among the "forced change of strategy". How DO you adapt your strategy? Not nearly as far as a precision rifle can reach, but you certainly dont need that, the maps arent big enough. Its nice that you want to see it, but what you want... energy shields, scanners, camouflage, mortars... thats a whole new level and its not really relevant to the original post. Not that this(or any other of my posts) are, but you know, youre straying into other dimensions here.
  15. Excuse me? Aliens use grenades far more often than once a month. By the way the very reason for all the QQ is that you cant adapt to psionics, or this nading, though Im more and more convinced theres a sound explanation for it, that doesnt include the AI cheating. Soldiers with a lot of str can throw nades pretty far I dont see a need for a grenade launcher.
  16. Much like Stellar said, if you handle the cover right, you can throw over the obstacles. I dont see the issue.
  17. Mine never land at my feet, they dont always hit where I point, but never do they get blocked by nearby cover and blow up at my feet. Well damn, you need to learn to throw then and start ironman, there are so many more issues you need to discover.
  18. Yep, Ive seen the AI do that, sometimes, they fire off all their ap in plasma most of the time though, staying in plain sight. I admit it is possible for the AI to actually come over a corner to spot, throw with another unit and then hide the spotter. Still, the situation I described happens in farms and industrials, where I tend to cover the entrances and would spot the potential scout. EDIT: Harridans might be the problem, they could fly up and spot over the wall. Ive seen one land right behind me on a roof and throw a nade. Not sure if theres harridan/sebillian crews though.
  19. I often find dead reapers next to local forces, since they play after the aliens, but in the same phase, they always got full reaction fire.
  20. Interesting idea, I need to try it in a city, the firepower could actually be useful there. Even though killing the civies lowers the funding bonus X_X. Im not sure about bases though, seeing as they could easily block your path to the enemy command center. If you mean youre defending with them... I prefer shooting the UFO down, rather than spend hundreds of thousands on tanks there and have them 2 shotted by enemy gunners. Oh and fu for using the 2 rifleman rookies as a comparison, use 2 Lt. Heavy Gunners.
  21. I am aware, everytime I get naded I check if theres an alien somewhere in a 360 degree.
  22. I found that the hunter can at best withstand 3 shots from a plasma rifle from the front. As for the Scimitar, I lost one to a single burst from heavy plasma. I didnt bother building Hyperion. Yes you can have low loses with tanks, but certainly not because of their(nonexistent) armor, if I wanna hide from enemy fire, I might as well go with soldiers. Theyre just too pricey, hard to build, unmanouverable and squishy to contend with plain troops. The explosions often obliterate the target and anything of worth it has along with the cover. In this case, I find the smaller aoe of rockets much better... It makes avoiding unnecessary damage easier. I know there aint many more arguments than in my last post. I dont deny theyre fun, theyre just not effective.
  23. Enough is enough! Ive had it with these mother****in scouts escaping over the mother****ing oceans.
  24. Theyre nice looking, thats about it. They take up more space than the actual soldiers and die just as fast. Theyre fun to play around with but as far a being actually useful, not unless you go all night mission or some other fetish.
